It's really depressing to suddenly realize just how long ago MacF was.

Given that IDW were able to use the classic stuff ages ago (including the "Forgotten" miniseries) as well as referencing Big Finish stuff (Charley gets brought up at least once during the 10th Doctor ongoing), I can't imagine that Titan have LESS freedom if they spent enough money to prevent IDW from renewing.
-
So far, nearly all the Big Finish $1 and $5 items have been things I already own. Hopefully we'll get a decent deal on the New 8th stuff before the end, as I only have Season One. Anyone read the comics yet? I'm still not crazy about the way Titan is doing things; were I in charge, I'd probably have one series with the current Doctor (11 until Capaldi's first season ends) and one ongoing or continuous-stream-of-minis-and-one-shots rotating among the other past Doctors, like the 90s BBC Books "8th Doctor Adventures" and "Past Doctor Adventures" tandem.
-
They published a mini when the first movie came out that was a continuation of the original series, and one or two movie tie ins, in z97 or so. This was after Ultraverse was off limits.

OoTW/Another World is one that I almost mentioned, but ended up not because, like Wing Commander (which I did mention but kind of disqualified), there are better versions available for modern consoles and PCs that can probably be had for the same price as the cartridge or less. It's an amazing game, but I'd say look up the Anniversary Edition. Street Fighter II and Mortal Kombat are different enough from the arcade games in tiny ways that add up, to the point that they're still worth playing on their own (or used to be) because of the differences. OotW doesn't feel like that to me.

Marvel just announced a GotG cartoon. The team will be appearing in all 3 Disney XD shows leading up to it. This would've excited me a lot more before I saw AvAss.

I think Killjoys suffers from having been initially created as a setting for a rock opera media project which had a lot of flash but was only a narrative in a very loose sense. Then Way comes back a couple years later to make the comic and flesh it out/finish the story, but he couldn't IMO turn it into a world that I could accept on it's own terms. It was great for getting teenagers to wear silly outfits to concerts, but even by the end of the comic it never felt like a real world to me. It was a way to tie some songs together and shoot some cool videos. (And I say that as someone who LIKED the album, which is more than I can say for the other MCR stuff.) Umbrella Academy, meanwhile, was a story designed as a story, with a world that had more thought put into it, and it shows.

If you like the game and didn't buy any DLC, it is SO worth it to get all the extra chars for that price. (the Ultimate Edition also starts with all the costumes and STAR Missions unlocked, but none of the other Archive stuff, just FYI.)

"More Than Meets the Eye" in the $15 tier is one of the best space-opera comics in years. I'm not honestly a huge fan of the stuff in the green tier; the Marvel stuff is enjoyable but nothing special with a few exceptions (some of which are not in the bundle).- 303 replies

Be warned: the first volume of Invincible is REALLY not a great barometer for how you'll feel about the book as a whole. It's part of a long con that doesn't pay off til issue 7.- 303 replies

Season 1 got added on Netflix the same day as season 2's premiere last year, so season 2 will probably be similar. CW always has the last five episodes that aired on tv on Hulu Plus. So since I imagine they're rerunning Arrow this summer a new episode should go up every week. Yeah, but they're not running them in order which is making me crazy. As of yesterday it was eps 5, 6, 7, 10 and 11, with ep 6 being the one that falls off the rotation today.

Humble Bundle is actually running TWO comics specials right now. In addition to the TWD bundle mentioned above, today they started a Transformers deal. Basic "at least $1" package is the first 4 years of the 1980s Marvel series. Green 'beat the average price (currently around $8.50) gets you All Hail Megatron, Autocracy and five Spotlight one-shots. The blue tier is $15 and gets you the first two TPBs each of the two current ongoings. More stuff, probably green tier, will be added next Wed. I'll probably jump on at green, since I already have everything in the blue tier and $15 is a lot to spend this month for double-dipping.- 303 replies

I know the next episode is Barry's intro, but it's not on Hulu at the moment, and I can't be bothered to drop $2 for an Amazon purchase or acquire it through alternative channels.

Bearing in mind I'm only up to episode 7: Laurel is brand new to being a prosecutor, having spent her entire legal career on the defense side to this point. She's involved in a mass murder case in which her boyfriend was one of the victims and her ex's mom is the defendant. She DOESN'T make sense to be there in that context, because it's a massive breach of legal ethics to let her within ten miles of that case, let alone for Spencer to force her to take over the case when Donner goes down. It's STUPID. It's not even "TV Law", it's the kind of thing that belies such a fundamental lack of understanding as to undermine the entire story from a dramatic perspective (and I'm hoping that her 'blowing' the case will hurt her within the DA's office, even if she only lost because Merlyn threatened the jury.) And it feels like her entire career change was just to put her in that position, which makes things WORSE. I've enjoyed a lot of this series, but jesus shit that was the kind of thing you feed writers to the sharks for.

So the legal logic (procedure?) of Season 2 of Arrow is just bafflingly bad. The idea that Laurel would not be immediately forced to recuse herself, let alone forced to take the lead on the case when she WANTS to let someone else do it, just completely broke my brain especially when Ollie kept talking to her socially.

He's been attached to that project on-and-off for years, though the indication was usually that he would be playing Teth-Adam rather than the hero. Assuming they pick a kid of similar ethnicity to play Billy, we are in for a total shitstorm from idiot fans since this would be the first time a title character gets diversified rather than a villain or supporting cast. Also, we are now on Page 52 of this thread, which means someone is probably about to lose an arm in a two-page spread.

I finally got caught up on the last couple issues of Invincible. I thought I was pretty much past the point of being shaken by the high death toll of the comic, but the wholesale slaughter of long-term supporting cast, combined with generally not being that interested in the Viltrumite story, has me ready to tap out of the Skyboundverse. I think I'm TOO immune to the carnage; the deaths in 111-2 felt more like "what a waste" moments than "OH SHIT THEY KILLED X."

I was absolutely in love with Cary Nord's art on that too short run. I remember also quite liking Joe Kelly's followup run at the time. Between DD and then Superboy around 2000, those two writers did a lot to shape two of my favorite chars.

That's really interesting. I remember reading that page for the first time and feeling really uncomfortable about it. There was an old internet urban legend at one point that it was initially a pilot movie for a TV show (where the killing would make more sense, because Hollywood has a hard time with villains who survive), but IIRC that's been basically debunked now--and if anyone around here would know, it'd probably be you.

I'm still operating on the assumption that since Dawson was described as an activist and a love interest, she's Milla Donovan. That's the character that needs the least pounding into that shape and is probably Matt's longest and best known "modern" (say post Guardian Devil) attachment.- 4,313 replies

Well yeah, but it can still be fun in the meantime, like Superior Spider-Man was. There is nothing stopping it from being a good run. I'm just jaded by these types of promotions that will not even boost sales. Wasn't there a Thor Girl at the end of Dan Jurgens run? Yeah, she was a supporting player in Initiative and Youth In Revolt. I'm waiting for someone to complain that it's dumb for Captain America to be able to telepathically see through the eyes of any bird, mostly because I am one of the 3 people who liked Johns on Avengers and read every issue of the Priest Cap&Falcon and want to see that era referenced.

Aisha Tyler in Watch Dogs is maybe the most gloriously weird celebrity cameo in a video game in ages.
