  1. The standard athletic commission tests do not test for synthetic testosterone. In order to do that they would need to move to carbon isotope testing, but it's far more expensive.
  2. I did not know that about MLB and Adderall. Seems like they have their own issues... 119 Therapeutic Use Exemptions were granted. The diagnoses were as follows: Attention Deficit Disorder: 116 Hypertension: 2 Hypogonadism: 1 Yikes.
  3. • Major League Baseball has issued six exemptions to athletes over the past six seasons -- an average of 1,200 players populate its rosters each season. • National Football League officials say testosterone exemptions are "very rare" and only a "handful" have been issued since 1990. Nearly 2,000 players circulate through rosters each season. Definitely seems more reasonable than what was going on in MMA. http://espn.go.com/espn/otl/story/_/id/10500652/therapeutic-use-exemptions-testosterone-mma-outpace-other-sports-lines-finds
  4. Athletes will always try to use PEDs for an advantage, you can't change that, but the UFC and the Athletic commissions don't have to condone it, and with the rampant use of TRT that's what it was appearing to be. How many times have you heard about TRT exemptions in the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, hell even in Boxing? You never do. The fact that it was so prevalent in MMA was always shady as hell. This is a step in the right direction. The next step needs to be blood testing instead of urine, and carbon isotope testing for synthetic testosterone. You will never catch everyone (athletes can even beat Olympic standard testing with enough $$$) but you can at least try.
  5. Bigfoot did pop for Boldenone back in EliteXC, so he's not exactly innocent. There is no legit reason someone would be prescribed Boldenone, as it's a veterinary steroid they give to horses.
  6. Unless Nevada switches to the carbon isotope test for synthetic testosterone, they can still use TRT illegally as long as they stay under whatever the T:E ratio is. Or just cycle their steroid of choice and hope the testing stays as an easy to beat urine test.
  7. Warrior will tell everybody about the lizard people during his HOF speech. Warrior and David Icke would probably get along famously.
  8. Brett Okamoto‏@bokamotoESPN 3 mins Dana White on effect of today's news on UFC self regulation: we follow Nevada
  9. This is the best news for MMA in a LONG time. Hopefully other commissions will now follow Nevada's lead.
  10. Which seems pretty absurd to me. It's interesting seeing guys opinions on this. A lot of older guys seem to have lesser opinions of guys like DDP and Savage that were known to plan move for move everything that happened (which in this case probably explains why DDP/Savage had awesome matches together). I was just re-reading Bret Hart's book and he shits all over Flair for only wanting to "call it in the ring" which seems kind of odd since I would assume back in the 70's and 80's when Bret was coming up that would be the way it was done. Maybe it was different in Stampede?
  11. Slim to none. I like Maidana a lot, but he's slow and he's a brawler. This will look like Mayweather vs. Baldomir or Guerrero. I mean there's always the chance Floyd got old overnight, or Maidana lands something lucky, but I doubt it. Mayweather by Unanimous, lopsided Decision.
  12. He's definitely worth keeping, but at $175,000 per fight? Pettis only made $54,000 in his last fight and Bendo made $110,000, so paying a guy that's never been UFC LW champ, more than you current and most recent champ... you can see why they'd want him to take a pay cut. Even if I think they should ALL be making more money, with the way the UFC works, I can see why they are trying to get him for less.
  13. It looks like Melendez was making $175,000 per fight from his Strikeforce contract. I doubt the UFC wanted to keep paying that to a LW that wasn't champion and I doubt Melendez wanted to take a pay cut. I'm surprised there hasn't been a Dana quote already saying Melendez was too "expensive." Makes you wonder how much $$$ Bellator offered though...
  14. I hope HBO picks it up here in the States. Glad they were able to come to an agreement for the rematch.
  15. And now Sonnen is on twitter trying to get for the Cormier fight...
  16. The fact that she was saying she's unsure of why she is being punished, when she signed off on the results, is all sorts of nuts and makes her look really stupid.
  17. So with Aldo fighting Pettis at 155, does Barao move up to 145 then? The UFC can still get their wish of Faber as champ at 135 lol.
  18. What... Why the hell isn't HBO showing this? Dammit. It's not like it's THAT bad of a fight. Shit at least put it on HBO2 or HBO Latino or something. I totally thought this would be on later... I wonder why NBC Sports or ESPN2 didn't try and pick it up...
  19. Sakuraba was a very good amateur wrestler in high school and college and trained in catch wrestling under Billy Robinson. That's a pretty good base for MMA.
  20. There's no reason they couldn't find some poor over matched fighter for Punk to face in a smaller show like they have for other "celebrity" MMA fights (see: Batista, Herschel Walker, Green Power Ranger, etc...) If this turns into anything, that's all it will be. But I'm not even sure I'd pick him to win against a can...
  21. Or maybe its the Superbowl. I meant the reason they didn't move the new episode to Saturday this week (Like they did with Girls and Looking) because of the Superbowl. Might as well get more weeks out of it, Girls and Looking I assume have the standard HBO 12 episode seasons while this show is only 8 eps.
  22. I assume they are holding off on True Detective as there's only 8 episodes and they want to stretch them out.
