  1. Well, the first two episodes of 30 Coins were batshit crazy in all the best ways.
  2. Yeah, the novel, The Ruins, beat me up pretty badly I had hopes that the movie would be just as good but I also knew that if it were as bleak and gory as the novel, it would zero dollars at the box office. I think that the movie is as close as it could be to the novel and still remain watchable. Scott B. Smith kinda reminds me of Kiyoshi Kurosawa. I don't think he intentionally sets out to write crime noir or horror. I think he just has an idea about a story he wants to tell and then follows the rabbit hole wherever it leads. At it's heart, The Ruins isn't a novel about killer plants. It's about Mother Earth telling us to go fuck ourselves for not being better stewards of the planet. Just like how A Simple Plan is a novel / movie about dysfunctional family relationships that just happens to be a great crime thriller. I'll tell you one thing. I think The Ruins did for Mexican tourism what Jaws did for weekends at the beach.
  3. Rayna Marquez or Avery Tel FTW. I'd also like to take Noel out to the Whetstone for dinner. I'd add Yuko and Ularu to the list, but I have to take a hot shower after every Ryujin mission to wash the shame and guilt away.
  4. New fixes are being tested. We'll probably have another update soon.
  5. Yep. I converted my Keppler R into a freight hauler. It has nice defensive weapons but it isn't a pure warship like the Razorleaf or the Bucephalas.
  6. I have not gotten married. I am waiting for the DLC or mod that allows me to woo Rayna Marquez.
  7. The go woke / go broke folks want The Marvels to bomb, so fuck them. I'm going on opening night and taking my daughter and all of her friends with me.
  8. Vindicta is currently on heavy rotation on the Showtime Networks and on SHO on Demand. I suffered through it last night for you. It has an interesting premise but then dissolves into slasher movie trope silliness of the worst kind. In hindsight, I probably should've watched AEW live and caught Vindicta on demand rather than watch Vindicta live and DVRed AEW. Not even Jeremy Piven chewing on scenery or Elena Kampouris's butt in purple jogging pants can save this thing. I did find it amusing that not only did a black guy die in the first ten minutes, the killer actually manages to murder two black guys before moving on to more victims.
  9. I've all but mothballed the Frontier. When Starborn attack, I may as well be in a cardboard box with engines strapped to it. I know I could convert it to a beefy Class-C, but I am stubborn and want to keep it close to Class-A specs. Between the upgraded Razoleaf and my customized ship, the Bucephalas, I have starships that can meet Starborn vessels on equal terms. Combat with two or more Starborn ships is rough, but I usually win through attrition thanks to an abundance of Ship Parts. The Bucephalas is the Roci II C build from this video. The Roci is named after Don Quixote's war horse, so I thought it would be appropriate to name my Roci clone after a war horse. In this case, my ship is named after Alexander the Great's war horse. My ships are so good that I totally forgot that I have like two or three missions left in the Freestar Ranger lines. The Star Eagle used to be a priority, but now it's not.
  10. Well I have found a moon in the Fermi system that has flora that naturally produces polymer for harvest and it has a breathable atmo and comfortable gravity. The zone is Level 75 but I think I will set up an outpost here. LIST can go fuck itself. Also: I wonder if Starfield has robust game analytics like Mass Effect did?
  11. I don't mind people engaging or debating with me as long as we're being respectful of one another's thoughts. Sure, I can be irascible and confrontational, but that does not mean I am also dismissive.
  12. It is perfectly fine to say "Hey, JT. You are an angry old man and a dumbass." Everyone else does and I won't get offended. Because yes, I am an angry old man and occasionally I am a dumbass.
  13. The Devil's Rain may be the best use of Ernest Borgnine, Tom Skerritt, Eddie Albert, and William Shatner in the worst Satan movie ever made. How can you produce such a silly devil movie when fucking Anton LaVey is your creative consultant and also has a cameo in the film?
  14. My daughter and I loved Fall but how the fuck do you generate TWO sequels from that plot? Did they not tear down the fucking rickety ass freestanding tower o' doom following the tragedy or at least make it harder to reach it? A really really really really high fence perhaps? Maybe even electrified or ringed with razor wire?
  15. I love the seriousness of the characters in Horror Express even when they are talking about completely absurd shit like how an alien telepathic killer Neanderthal mummy, or whatever the fuck that thing is, murders people by emptying its victim's brain of all memories. Telly Savalas is so pimp in this. I want a pair of his Cossack riding boots.
  16. How can something be so adorable and so disturbing at the same time?
  17. Aterrados is totally great. If you need your soul crushed further, Demián Rugna's second instant classic, When Evil Lurks (Cuando acecha la maldad), should also be on AMC+ / Shudder following its limited release earlier this month. Big ups to Twiztor for taking on another review.
  18. I can pretty much confirm this since this is the case for me and I have zero points invested in Outpost Engineering. So if you are going to build an outpost just to assign Heller and Lin to it and exploit their skills, construct a Crew Desk first (along with shelter if the planet / moon where your outpost is located has hazardous conditions) and assign them to the outpost before you start constructing your production chain. Yep. I have Sarah and Vasco assigned to my home ship to make use of her Astrodyamics skill and Vasco's Shield Systems skill. Sarah has skill in Botany but it is only L1, so she won't give your hydroponics capability at an outpost all that much of a bump. At best, you'll generate more common and uncommon resources from your plants. in re Barrett
  19. Happy Halloween! D&D totally stole the idea for the Caller in Darkness from 1999's cult epic, The House on Haunted Hill, for the Expanded Psionics Handbook. https://forgottenrealms.fandom.com/wiki/Caller_in_darkness https://villains.fandom.com/wiki/The_Darkness_(House_on_Haunted_Hill) There, I said it. If you are going to rip off something, rip off something that is good.
  20. It would've felt fresh to me if Brynn (Kaitlyn Dever) hadn't spent the entire runtime making the same horror movie trope lapses in judgment running from the aliens as any other final girl does trying to evade the masked killer (ie. she doesn't lock her bedroom door, hides under the bed, doesn't let the police know what's going on at her house, leaves her car door open, ad nauseum). We've seen this before many times. And yeah, probably a bit longer than it should've been. The movie is redeemed by a totally badass ending even if it does borrow a bit from 10 Cloverfield Lane's gimmick.
  21. TBH I was not terribly impressed with No One Will Save You. It looked like someone tried to make a feature length movie showcasing the Woodcrawlers from Gemini Home Entertainment.
  22. I saw that on my phone when I got up to get ready for night duty!
  23. Same. I mined all of the Caelumite during the intro, but totally brainfarted on harvesting the rest of the Beryllium in the cavern. During the mission, Return to Vectera, I went back into the mine for the Beryllium only because I knew it was materiel I'd need for building my future outpost on Bessel 3-B.
  24. The graphic novel series this movie is based on is intriguing if you like stories that are morally grey (and I do) so I am looking forward to this.
