  1. I've seen rumors about this all night but had it confirmed by people I know in RVA who knew the band. Total bummer. He was an incredibly creative guy and a real innovator.
  2. Someone mentioned wrestler's court? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1n4zMT8c5_g
  3. I've never seen- The Shield The Wire True Detective (though based on overwhelmingly positive reviews I'm going to try this at work next week) The Sopranos (I'd watch an episode here and there while waiting for Six Feet Under/Oz and it never interested me) Trailer Park Boys Downton Abbey Any Dr. Who series Any medical drama show other than House True Blood and Game of Thrones I both managed to watch the first season of and thought were awful.
  4. Rock and Coach once again, from one of the funniest segments
  5. I watched a few episodes of Burn Notice for the first time this afternoon. It wasn't bad, almost like a modern day A-Team with some MacGyver influence in there too. It was entertaining enough but seemed to have a formula with a pretty short shelf life. It's one of those shows I could probably watch out of boredom if it was on. Its even weirder when you consider most of who watch do like the show going off the rare times we discuss it. It's one of my favorite shows on tv right now. They've done an amazing job of keeping the overarching storyline intriguing without making it utterly convoluted and still keeping plenty of room for speculation. The character development is also top notch.
  6. Man I just found my tape of the Scoops sponsored super indy. Expect a review when I get around to watching it. Scoops was my IE homepage for about a year back in 99 or so. I really wanted to go to Break the Barrier but it happened about a week before school let out that year. I'm curious to how you think it holds up. It was supposedly the main impetus behind ROH's conception.
  7. Man a lot of stuff in this thread brings me back. I first got online regularly in high school around 96-97 and lots of these wrestling sites were the first ones I would visit. Going off of links from rspw brought me to a lot of these and I'd often print stuff out from there to take to school and show my dumbfounded friends (I remember one about wrestlers real names being a big hit for some reason). I subscribed to John Petrie's Monday night recaps from Slobberknocker Central until he stopped with them. He was less self-aggrandizing and stuck to just giving the shows a review than Hayatte and definitely less than CRZ. I think I may have some of them saved on some disks in a box somewhere. I read the mopups sometimes as well, especially if I had some time to kill or computer lab was boring that day. Didn't CRZ have a reputation as being a bigtime creep online?
  8. Josh of Unusual Size I'm glad that in the early 90s none of my peers gave enough of a fuck about Jeff Jarrett to call me "J-E-Double F". Well that and it would have taken too long to say.
  9. Seeing the pic in the photo thread made me wonder - what if Hayabusa was never paralyzed?
  10. I hope we get some WAR-esque randomness out of a 6 man tag title division. The over the top contraption in CZW's Cage of Death 5 was the most watchable scaffold match I've seen, although I have no idea how well that match holds up. Perhaps I'll pop the tape in later. Davey Richards and Teddy Hart need to have a scaffold match and do an indy respect spot on top of it. Then Davey can no-sell the floor bump followed by Teddy doing 3 moonsaults off of it.
  11. Aside from everything that went down when he left WWE, were there any well known cases of Bret politicing or keeping anyone down?
  12. I remember watching it when it was Fox's made for tv movie of the week. Given that I'd have been around 13 at the time I don't remember much about it, but I doubt it was that good or anything more memorable than the standard syfy channel original.
  13. Saw that second match advertised today. As a fan of the old OMEGA (and Matt Hardy), I'm wondering how this version of OMEGA is panning out so far. From what I've been able to gather from their website, each of their shows are advertised as a fundraiser for some school or civic organization. The reviews sound like it's the Hardys and their local "name" friends (CW Anderson, Shane Helms, probably Shannon Moore) plus a couple Mid-Atlantic indy guys. I'd go to the April show if I didn't have to work on Saturday nights.
  14. The recent stuff with Kane has made me think they're going to do a Shield face turn. At Wrestlemania they can have Ambrose defend the US title against Kane (possibly on the preshow) and have Rollins and Reigns in some mulit-team match for the tag titles. Since Bray obviously isn't going to go over Cena, the match will likely end with the Wyatts all whaling on Cena, at which point the Shield come out from the crowd to fight them off seeing as how they have unfinished business or whatever. Blowoff Extreme Rules match.
  15. I watched the first episode of Resurrection this morning and liked it a lot better when it was called Flight of the Navigator. Normally I don't like cop shows but so many people have been high on True Detective (mainly people whose opinions I tend to respect) I'm thinking of giving it a try. Is it one of those shows that transcends genre?
  16. I find it ironic Cena was mocking someone else's gimmick considering he spent his first few years as a cheesedick suburban rapper. The "everybody gets a WM paycheck" battle royale sounds like fun. I'm with the crowd that thinks Russev or Cesaro or some other up and comer will get the rub there. Speaking of Cesaro, I really hope they give him something more substantial at Wrestlemania than the inevitable Real Americans match. Is there a compilation of the random battle royales that would always be on the Coliseum Video tapes? This is something that the Network really needs to have. Ambrose mocking Kane was tremendous. I'm wondering if there's a feud brewing there.
  17. From a workrate standpoint The American Males were a perfectly adequate midcard/enhancement team. I don't remember a ton of his stuff with Scorpio but I'd imagine it was decent as well.
  18. I think it depends on whether or not Angle was a big enough draw to be exempt from getting wellness policy-d.
  19. The Christian/Sheamus match wasn't terrible, but was about 5 minutes longer than it needed to be. Thinking it wouldn't have gotten crapped on in any other market is a bit delusional. The chants it got might have been different, but the reaction would have been similar. Sheamus was getting a lot better during his feud with Big Show, but went nowhere since then. He's at his best when he can work really physically with someone else, which is why putting him in a program with Cesaro would do well, imo. The only time Christian did anything for me was when he was teaming with Edge, though I agree he's a good hand at putting others over. I can't remember the last time there was as much speculation and judgement without actual facts of a situation as there has been with the current Punk ordeal. There really is no win-win situation with the whole Punk deal. A majority of the people chanting for him probably have no knowledge of all the rumors floating around and are just doing it because they miss him on screen, and probably think it's part of an angle dealing with the authority and company holding him down. If the WWE puts out a notice saying he's done, the same people are probably just going to think it's an angle, ditto if he tweets something about having quit. I'm going to try and withhold judgement till he actually makes an official statement on the matter. He's been mailing it in for a while, especially at the rumble, and I just don't see someone with that sort of attitude towards their job demanding a top spot and the increased workload that goes along with it. Maybe hearing that a part-timer who hasn't wrestled in years would be winning the rumble and having the top spot at mania for the second year in a row finally pushed him away, maybe he was asking for time off and didn't get it, who knows. If he is coming back, I could see an ECW type dog and pony show in the Bryan/HHH match, maybe Kane chokeslams Bryan and he kicks out, followed by Punk running out, taking out Kane, GTSing HHH, only for him to kick out and the match keep going till Bryan pulls out the win.
  20. Drake was getting typecast as an indy garbage worker and started getting really serious about improving his fundamentals a few years ago. Even though I haven't seen a ton of his straight wrestling material, what I've seen in PWG recently has been a big improvement over what he'd been doing in CZW/IWA-MS earlier. The whole "he always tries really hard no matter what the match" compliment gets thrown around a lot these days, but he really is someone you can tell gives a shit about the business. I haven't been to a ton of live wrestling shows, but one of the few was a Light Heavyweight/Deathmatch double header in IWA-EC in 2006 and he was an incredibly friendly guy.
  21. Best Raw I've seen since I started watching it again regularly in 2011 or so. The opening promo was some of Heyman's finest work and the rest of the show was more solid in-ring wise than most of their PPVs. I had thought about Rollins ditching Ambrose and Reigns after deciding he was sick of being the peacekeeper of the group but I guess we still have a few weeks to go to see what this leads to match-wise. Pretty much. I was actually surprised at how far between the Punk chants were. Most of the stuff that was being shit on would have been shit on anyways, just in a different way.
  22. My own fantasy booking scenario has been Punk winning the title at Mania then losing it to Bryan on Raw the next night, followed by a full blown Punk heel turn.
