  1. Nope. I rewatched it not too long ago and still thought it tried way too hard to try and ape the overly gritty and graphic grindhouse aesthetic so that it came off as derivative instead of an engaging homage (many of the same reasons I thought Death Proof sucked). The way they made the villains so over the top violent and edgy by saying "fuck" twice per sentence was also annoying. It's pretty much the same complaint I have with Natural Born Killers - I didn't find them cool at all and just wanted them to die as painfully as possible. I have no problem with violence for the sake of violence, but nothing in this movie worked for me.
  2. I watched Lords of Salem expecting it to suck, as all of Zombie's other movies have been varying degrees of crap, but found myself getting surprisingly on board with it at first. It definitely comes off like an homage to some old Fulci film with various horror character actor shoehorned in and the basic premise is actually halfway interesting. Then it totally goes off the rails and devolves into what comes off as an overly long music video for the last third or so.
  3. I don't see who else it could be besides The Rock. Austin and Goldberg are done and not coming back and bringing it up is one of the deader horses beaten on here. Angle isn't going to get cleared. Sting is most likely done and after the two matches he did have, I can't imagine who would think it would be a good idea to trot him out again. Batista? Maybe Pete Rose is going to get revenge for being chokeslamed by Taker's brother all these years?
  4. If he wants a fruit basket, then that's all the more reason to put Ashley Remmington in.
  5. I'd seen Rush in CZW a few days before this and he was pretty impressive but I definitely agree on Kincaid looking better here. At first I thought he looked like some indy guy trying to ape the Wyatt's look and figured he wouldn't be anything special, but then out of nowhere he starts doing a bunch of impressive stuff. Hopefully he sticks around.
  6. Any word on Mark Henry's injury from last night? I saw on twitter he was going to be evaluated in the morning but haven't heard anything since. Rick Steiner as a real life Mike Haggar. Make it happen. Still makes more sense than common core math
  7. So I just double checked and the PPV is in fact this weekend. There are 5 matches announced. Maybe a tag title match gets booked on Smackdown?
  8. I can't believe something involving the Miz was one of the best parts of the show. Opening 5 way was pretty decent, even if it did set up one more in a string of go-nowhere 50/50 booking matches for Fastlane. It looks like Henry legit tweaked his knee or something at the end of the match. There's no better way than making what is supposed to be a dominant heel faction look strong than by having them run out of the ring by 3 of the biggest (pun intended) pieces of dead weight on the roster.
  9. I remember about 10 years back there was a big to-do about wrestlers being required to dress in business casual or better when they were back stage due to "professionalism" or something like that. Apparently certain people were exempt from this, but other guys could apparently get fined because of the dress code. This kind of arbitrary bullshit has been going on forever.
  10. I like Daryl fine as a character, but I hope he gets Lucille'd just for the shitstorm it will cause among the fan base.
  11. Celebritynetworth values Bryan at 5 million and Brie at 1. They obviously don't live an ostentatious life and I don't know what residual/royalty payouts are like and what kind of deal they have, but I'd imagine those will keep them set for a while.
  12. It looks like the whole thing is up on wwe.com. Haven't watched it on there yet so I'm not sure if it's clipped or not.
  13. Were Enzo & Cass backstage at Raw tonight, or are they just doing some shows with the main roster house show circuit? I got all excited when someone posted Carmella's instagram pic of them on the main show, but apparently that was just from a house show in San Jose. They've apparently been in a call-up holding pattern for a while now and I was hoping they would finally debut. There are few things more stale than the Usos/New Day feud, and I definitely don't think they should be in the title picture any time soon, but hearing Enzo banter back and forth with New Day would be hilarious. This almost sounds more interesting than Raw, wrestling-wise- WWE Live Event Results 2/6/16 San Jose, CA *AJ Styles beat The Miz via submission with the Calf Crusher. *Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady defeated The Ascension. Big reaction for the NXT trio as the crowd knew their lines. *Jack Swagger beat Curtis Axel with The Patriot Lock. *The Lucha Dragons defeated Los Matadores.. *Brock Lesnar pinned Rusev with an F5. Huge reaction to Brock. *WWE Divas Champion Charlotte pinned Becky Lynch. *Ryback and The Usos beat WWE Tag Team Champions The New Day when Ryback pinned Xavier Woods with the Shellshock. *Roman Reigns pinned Alberto Del Rio.
  14. I barely watched WWE from 2003 to 2010 and hearing that Bryan was actually doing stuff made me start paying attention again. It's a bit odd considering I was kind of indifferent to him when he was on the indies - I really enjoyed him as a wrestler but for a majority of his indy run he was pretty devoid of personality. It's really sad his career ended up the way it did, though I wonder if they had put him in a higher profile spot, would the injuries have mounted sooner and been more severe? The rest of the show was the same stuff over and over again. Apparently every Raw requires some sort of match between The Usos and New day, Ziggler and Owens, and Kalisto and Del Rio. And of course making sure they get the same amount of wins traded.
  15. The Descent is a favorite of mine and I don't hate the second as much as I did upon the initial viewing. I don't know the story behind the production, but it strikes me as one of those movies the studio ordered a sequel to based on the original's success, regardless of how the first film ended or what the creators had in mind for any further story. I thought Doomsday could have been fleshed out a little more in certain scenes and that they tried to cram a few too many genres/references into one. Centurion struck me as having some good ideas, but couldn't really bring them all together. He's got a sequel to Dog Soldiers in the works which could prove to be good. Probably the wrong thread, but I see he has credits to some episodes of "Black Sails" under his belt. Is that show worth watching?
  16. Graves comparing Mojo to Slimer got a chuckle out of me.
  17. Have there been any reliable stories of what kind of heat, if any, Jarrett got backstage when he first came to the WWE? Him being the son of a former competitor who may have dealt less than fairly with some of the guys already on the roster at the time I could imagine that was a possibility.
  18. Wear a helmet before posting from now on.
  19. Anyone know if they're going to be showing season 2 on Univision/UniMas? The UniMas site still has it advertised in its old spot (Saturdays at 4, which is right before ROH conveniently enough) but none of the tv listings sites are listing it on there.
  20. Ziggler is the third member of the Young Bucks (yes I know they actually have a third brother)? He does have a penchant for overselling and superkicks...
  21. It's really off-putting to watch old ECW and have weird, random songs playing during the intro and the wrestlers' entrances (especially when something other than "Enter Sandman" or "Natural Born Killaz" is playing during the entirety of a match). Maybe it's nostalgia or a testament to how good they were at picking signature intro music for all of the guys.
  22. The problem isn't with Ziggler's in-ring or character work, he has the same problem a lot of the other wrestlers do - they're given absolute dogshit to work with and any momentum they get is cut off or not capitalized on. Ziggler was insanely over when he cashed in on Del Rio on the post-Mania Raw in 2013 then again when he had one of the best performances of the year in Survivor Series, yet they did absolutely fuck all with him afterwards.
  23. The Authority's match making process is James Bond villain level dumb and will have the same end result of backfiring on them but there's an understandable level of logic there - they know Reigns wants his title back and will do anything to get it so they're making him fight his best friend, someone they know is crazy and can dish out and absorb insane amounts of punishment, to get the chance. Not only that but they're throwing into the mix someone who has been shown to be a virtually unstoppable force (and who would have inserted himself into the title picture anyways either by sheer force or by Heyman's machinations) to provide further punishment to Reigns and his buddy. So basically Reigns has to overcome the physical challenges of two tough and dangerous opponents who are likely to put a serious hurt on him as well as deal with the emotional challenges of having to beat the hell out of his best friend in order to get within sniffing distance of the title once again. They probably figure there's no way he'll get through all that and enjoy watching him get beaten up in the process. Naturally he's going to overcome all that, but still the idea makes sense to them.
