  1. Looking back no promotion ever having a "Russian" turn face and "defect" to the US was a huge missed opportunity/ I'm not talking about at the end of the Cold War when it was silly to have some Soviet flag waving heel, thinking of 1985 and either Vince, Dusty or Bill Watts watches Moscow on the Hudson and gets the idea for it.
  2. But the tv show winners and nominees totally make sense for a “kid” audience, the likes of Alyssa Milano and the Cosby Kid’s were getting nominated, it’s not like Susan Dey from LA Law or Blair Brown from the Days and Nights of Molly Dodd were getting noms. I’m wondering if it was a lack of big studio films that were geared towards girls in the Nick demographic in that time frame, is why the favorite movie actress is so weird.
  3. Michigan has "suspended" Jim Harbaugh for three games, I'm confused why they wouldn't go with four since their fourth game is against Rutgers. Also, my word is Michigan's schedule a joke. https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/38234403/sources-michigan-self-imposes-3-game-jim-harbaugh-ban
  4. I’m wondering if whoever listed the 1989 winners on Wikipedia goofed or was playing a joke and Whoopi won for Clara’s Heart not The Telephone. After reading the synopsis of The Telephone, I can’t imagine any kid sitting through it, I totally thought it was another Jumping Jack Flash kind of flick.
  5. Look at how F'ed up the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards were back then, I guess they didn't really work the results but I'm scratching my head at Whoopi Goldberg getting nominations for movies I don't think were on any kids radar in that time frame. 1988 Favorite Movie: Beverly Hills Cop II (R), it beat out Adventures in Babysitting (PG-13) and La Bamba (PG-13) Favorite Actor: Eddie Murphy Beverly Hills Cop II (R), he beat out Arnold in The Running Man (R) and Swayze in Dirty Dancing (PG-13 that is border line R) Favorite Actress: Whoopi Goldberg in Fatal Beauty (R), she beat out Shelley Long in Hello Again (PG) and Elisabeth Shue in Adventures in Babysitting (PG-13) 1989 wasn't as bad but kind of weird Favorite Movie - Who Framed Roger Rabbit (PG), over Beetlejuice (PG) and Police Academy 5 Assignment: Miami Beach (which was somehow a PG) Favorite Actor - Arnold in Twins (PG, totally thought this was PG-13), the other nominees were Eddie Murphy in Coming to America (R) and Pee Wee Herman in Big Top Pee Wee (PG) Favorite Actress - Whoopi Goldberg in The Telephone (R), over Bette Midler in Beaches (PG-13), and Molly Ringwald in For Keeps (PG-13) 1990 is pretty tame except for Eddie Murphy getting a nomination for Harlem Knights (R), Michael Keaton not even getting nominated for Batman and Batman losing fav flick to Look Who's Talking. 1991 Julia Roberts wins Favorite Actress for Pretty Woman! Yes she won a Kids Choice Award for playing a hooker in a hard R!
  6. I never thought of DDP as rednecky since there's dudes like him everywhere, especially where he's from in New Jersey. As you said DDP was relatable in that he's your friends dad who only shows up once or twice a year and takes all of you somewhere cool kind of way.
  7. Watched some Tango & Cash clips during breakfast, forgot about the massive amount of character actors in it, including Brion James going all out with crazy eyes and a cockney accent.
  8. I re-watched Tango & Cash during the pandemic, it’s a silly but fun action flick, Jack Palance chewing every bit of scenery is amazing and worth a watch.
  9. Wasn’t the biggest reason they did the conservatorship was to skirt NCAA recruiting rules?
  10. No other era of tv hosts/presenters are worse than those in the mid-90's, just plain corny filled with cafe latte and one key bump of coke energy.
  11. I guess you didn't watch a lot of Three's Company and All in the Family reruns growing up.
  12. So this isn't a remake of Roxanne with Steve Martin & Darryl Hannah?
  13. Last week I went to see The Dandy Warhols in concert, so that made me re-watch Dig! for the first time in years. For those who haven't seen it Dig! follows The Dandy Warhols and The Brian Jonestown Massacre for 7 years starting around 1994, in that time the Dandy's sign with a major label and BJM self destructs due to their leader Anton Newcombe's mental health issues and addiction. Someone who's never seen it or heard of either band would think it's a mockumentary, there's scenes and soundbites that come off as hysterical 20some years after it's release, a lot of the Anton Newcombe stuff can be hard to watch since it obvious he has serious issues and everyone is either "he's a genius" or have "that wacky Anton" attitudes. Both bands felt the director Ondi Timoner did them dirty, I can see that but there's a point where the camera doesn't lie, and they gave her tons of that. But, I did agree with the Dandy's take that it framed Newcombe as a "true artist" and the Dandy's as somewhat "sell-out's" since they had moderate success. It's still a really good doc that's worth watching and it's streaming for free on Plex.
  14. Yeah, he'd most likely get a hernia trying to shoot lift anyone in that ring over the top rope. After thinking about it, if his plan was to choke people out or break their arms, someone would have punted his head Ray Guy style once he was on the mat.
  15. Since he'd have to start with Steve Blackman, his chances of getting far are slim. Blackman would quickly realize what's going on compared to say Droz and fight back, next Blackman most likely has been in way way more street fight type fights compared to Severn and could hold his own, then once everyone backstage realizes what's going on the next two entrants would most likely be Ken Shamrock and The Godfather. Even if his fantasy became somewhat of a reality, once 3 or 4 guys get him down someone is pulling out one of his eyeballs, just out of principal.
  16. Wow! The Bobby as a model and Bobby kicking everyone in the balls are both in my top 10 of funniest episodes of any tv show. Also, Buck Strickland is one of the funniest semi-recurring characters in tv history and Gilbert Fontaine Dauterive was one of the funniest one off characters.
  17. Will Sandler's accent be a Zohan level of bad or will he turn it up a few notches for a Tom Hanks in The Terminal bad.
  18. I don’t think Bischoff/Fusient would have had a pot to piss in after buying WCW, wasn’t there a lot of shadiness when it came to where the money was coming from?
  19. Micki & Maude with Dudley Moore is somewhat wrestling related and breaks the sacred "kayfabe". Andre, Big John Studd, Jay Strongbow, Gene LeBell, Hard Boiled Haggerty and Wildman Jack Armstrong who by law had to be in any wrestling related movie or tv show, are in it.
  20. Requiem for a Heavyweight is like Night in the City, where it uses wrestling as a plot point. All the Marbles is great but there's so much padding, more than a third of it is them driving around with Falk's character badly ADR'ed in saying "you girls need to work on the sunset flip".
  21. Walton Goggins deserves every award possible for his monologue about what happened with Dusty Daniels on Y2K. While this season of Gemstones had many many hilarious moments, I really didn't care for the main storyline.
  22. I can't see the strikes going that long, the big media companies will all have a few bad quarterly reports before then and shareholders will be antsy to make a deal.
  23. There's no way they're ahead of the ACC, they added BYU who's played a joke of a schedule since going Independent, Cincy and UCF are good but will be facing a bit of reality in moving up a level, Houston only got the invite because they needed a Texas school and Colorado has stunk since W Bush was president.
  24. How long before Vince had Rollins do a commercial similar to this one.
  25. Mister TV

    30 For 30

I'll co-sign on this being really good but depressing due to all the drivers who were killed during Stewart's time.
