  1. I find my enjoyment of most things is enhanced by actively avoiding any kind of associated fandom.
  2. Sounds like the Suns and Kings are both imploding. Phoenix fired 2 assistants and Hornacek is probably next. Kieff Morris has been suspended and teams are demanding assets to take him off of their hands. Bledsoe is out until at least the all-star break. Phoenix has had such a weird arc the past couple of years, being good when they weren't supposed to be and shitting the bed when they were supposed to be good. With this roster they're probably, at best, a mid second-tier Western Conference team so complete teardown is probably in the works. Meanwhile George Karl ended his press conference after their loss to the Blazers early with "I'm done. I'm frustrated." and Cousins and Rondo both skipped out of the arena without talking to the media. So Kings gonna Kings.
  3. RIP Meadowlark Lemon. He's clowning the angels now.
  4. I got a couple of dress shirts, new slippers, a nice stainless skillet, an electric kettle, and a giant-ass 2000+ piece Lego detective office. Way excited about that last one.
  5. We have to do some emergency car shopping this weekend. I'm just hoping we don't get boned too badly. On the upside having car problems gets us out of going to the girlfriend's mom's house for Christmas, so I get to spend xmas day in my robe drinking, as god intended.
  6. I'm watching through Deep Space Nine and just got to season 7. What in the actual fuck is going on? All of a sudden the war is pushed to the background so everyone can be friends with a holographic lounge singer? And they spend a whole episode as the Bad News Bears? Dukat is a space wizard now? Fuck all of this.
  7. I was always scared of alien stuff when I was a kid, so the Roswell episode of Unsolved Mysteries fucked me up pretty good. I don't think I got a good night's sleep for a couple of weeks after that.
  8. KU absolutely ruined Montana today, culminating in this
  9. More like, the movie is almost a beat-for-beat remake of ANH. The first half, especially. It's like Rob Zombie's STAR WARS. Does that mean it also ripped off Hidden Fortress and Leni Riefenstahl? I haven't seen it in a while, but there are some shots that I'm pretty sure are lifted directly from Triumph of the Will.
  10. Lor San Tekka, who had the last piece of the puzzle for Luke's whereabouts. According to some of the extra-textual stuff, he's a member of the Church of the Force, which is pretty much exactly what it sounds like
  11. "Mike D'antoni? Really? Really?!" I am legit curious: What is the Sixers' pitch to get people to renew season tickets? What are they trying to sell you on?
  12. On first watch: I love it. I had been apprehensive and tried to manage my expectations because of what happened with Star Trek. Abrams made a movie that had all the signifiers of Trek, but he either didn't get or chose not to include the fundamental elements that make Star Trek what it is. I think he really gets Star Wars. The script really leaned into the whole Joseph Campbell heroic journey/monomyth idea that influenced the original. I loved how they introduced these characters and used familiar story beats to match them up with the archetypes introduced in A New Hope and then played with our expectations and turned some of them totally on their head. There were definitely some things that didn't hit for me, particularly Supreme Leader Whatshisname, but I'm really excited to see where they go from here.
  13. Oh, cool, I was wondering how this Bucks season would get worse.
  14. I do really like Dolfan's interpretation of events. "Hospital? Hell naw, I got this"
  15. Iman Shumpert delivered his daughter on the floor of his bathroom, tied off the umbilical cord with headphones, and named her Iman Shumpert Jr because he is the hero we need.
  16. It's nice to see the loyalty, but it's been really clear to everyone but him that Alvarez has no interest in making Gard the head coach. I would have liked to see him go out on a high note after last season instead of like this.
  17. What the fuck, I skip going to one game and this happens? Anyway, something had felt very, very off the last two games. He barely coached the UW-M game at all; he called no time outs until the last 3 minutes and made no substitutions after the 16 minute mark in the 2nd half. And the team has been really bad out of timeouts and halftime all year. Either something is going on with him or there's a really bad locker room situation going on.
  18. The Heat don't really have the assets to make it worthwhile. They can't trade a first-rounder until 2020 and they don't have good young players aside from Winslow. Boston could put together a pretty interesting package centered around David Lee and picks.
  19. I remember as far back as Kentucky people saying that Rondo was difficult. IIRC Randolph Morris had some pretty unflattering things to say about him. Also, why the fuck do I remember Randolph Morris' name ten years later? At least we got to see Drummond break CP3's ankles. That was a fun moment.
  20. Dad had to put one of his dogs down today. She was 14 and one of her legs didn't work, so it was time. She was the sweetest, gentlest dog I ever had the pleasure of meeting. RIP Katy, your're chasing rabbits with the angels now.
  21. If we're digging for positives I think the first 10-ish minutes of Phantom Menace are pretty decent. And the bit in the climactic lightsaber battle where they're all trapped behind forcefields is a nice little character moment that is totally wasted. Other than that, it's fairly unwatchable. I bought opening night tickets last night for my girlfriend and I. She's never seen a Star Wars movie, so I'm curious to see how she enjoys it. I asked her to tell me everything she knew about Star Wars and she gave a pretty passable synopsis of the OT just through cultural osmosis.
  22. I'm pretty sure the PS2 classics version that was on PS3 had the full soundtrack, but it got pulled from the store a while back over the music rights.
  23. Wallace comes from trading Thompson to Sacramento. As bad as things are right now the trade with the Kings with the pick swaps is looking good. They are 7-15 and Cousins is playing terrible since he is clearly hurt. Odds of them digging out of this hole are slim. Right now the Kings are giving the Sixers an extra 8.8% chance at the top pick. Check out the Kings groups. They are demoralized right now at having 0 shot at Simmons. One other thing. I keep seeing how we have 2 or 3 players. Keep your eyes on Michael Carter Williams KJ McDaniels Jerami Grant folks. He hasn't found his consistency yet but he is turning into a player. I still get floored by how explosive he is and he already plays very good defense. He has been a lot better since someone got it through his head he doesn't always have to try for the monster dunk around the rim. Covington is our best player but Grant for sure has a spot in this league. Yeah saying 3 or 4 instead of 2 or 3 still isn't saying much. I think I know how this story ends.
  24. Javale McGee and Gerald Wallace. They're making a combined $22M this year from the Sixers, The rest of the team makes $37M combined.
