  1. I was amazed by how loud Belair's hair whips were. I didn't know hair could do that.
  2. I loved Kai vs. Ripley. At worst the second best match in the tournament so far (behind Sane vs. Blanchard). Those two are both fantastic.
  3. This fits with my pet theory that pro wrestling would be better off never acknowledging the existence of MMA.
  4. Toni Storm is one of the biggest heels in wrestling just for wearing that horrible little hat. Worst headgear since Finn Balor's mall-goth headdress.
  5. I didn't know Kojima still wrestled for promotions outside NJPW. Is he a freelancer?
  6. This is a great point. I've only been following NJPW at all closely for about a year, but in that time I'e been struck by how aimless their tag booking is in comparison to their masterful approach to heavyweight singles.
  7. "Loved the match but that was a bit much" is my reaction to just about every big NJPW singles match.
  8. The contrast between the last two matches was remarkable. You've got a guy kicking out of a second-rope piledriver in the main event, while one match earlier the big drama was "can Tanahashi escape this wristlock?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?" I acknowledge that the crowd was more into the former, but I'm very grateful for the latter.
  9. I can't decide what to think about the V-Trigger. On the one hand, it's a great, brutal-looking move. On the other hand, the impact is diluted a bit when he never wins with it. On the other other hand, the fact that he never wins with it means you get to see him do it like seven times from four different angles in every big match. A true puzzle for the discerning wrestling fan.
  10. ^I'll bite, since I don't watch PWG: who is that throwing the dropkick?
  11. Has Inoki ever gone on the record as to what the hell was thinking during this time?
  12. They've already got someplace to send stagnant talent: NXT. They don't seem all that inclined to use it that way, but they did do it with Zack Ryder, and unlike NJPW, it would be a setting that they'd retain control over and that would maintain the house style. And which New Japan talent does WWE want the sort of access to that they could get via talent exchange? Generally what they want are exclusive long-term contracts. I can't see any scenario in which they'd be willing to settle for getting Kenny Omega on excursion with strings attached. I don't know why I'm arguing though, I'd love for something like that to happen. If anyone from WWE is reading this: Victator is right and I am wrong.
  13. It's interesting to think about what kind of exchange would actually be worth it for both parties. It seems like WWE already has more talent than it knows what to do with. It's easy to think of WWE midcarders and NXT guys who might be able to rip it up in NJPW, given the chance to do a tour or two (Cesaro, Zayn, Sheamus, Rusev, Samoe Joe, The Revival, Mojo Rawley)--but what's in it for WWE?
  14. That's one of the better uses of the rebound lariat, since Styles actually has a reason not to notice what Ambrose is doing until it's too late.
  15. That belt looks awesome!
  16. I know I'm wading into dangerous territory here, but: has Alexa had some work done on her lips recently?
  17. The most auspicious thing to come out of Bart Gunn/Mike Barton's run in AJPW was surely his appearance in Virtual Pro Wrestling 2, the greatest wrestling video game of all time. His character is one of the toughest to play against, too.
  18. I agree, that was the one blemish on an otherwise amazing match. If they were going to do that spot, wish they would have used the ring bell as the foreign object instead of the tag belt. Yes, and I'll go one step further and say that his entrance is just making me cringe now. In a promotion full of moment-for-moment rehearsed entrances, his somehow feels especially contrived--probably because his persona just wasn't built for that sort of thing. It makes him come off less like a genuine eccentric and more like a normal dude who wears a costume and plays a "totally random" character. It bleeds over into his ring work, too.
  19. I thought DIY/AoP was really excellent, a Takeover-quality match until the finish (which is perfectly fine, since it sets up what promises to be an even better match with the Revival).
  20. I agree with everyone who was bothered by Reigns breaking out the chain-assisted Accolade. But there was another part of the match that bugged me even more: when Rusev, kendo stick in hand, had Reigns tied up in the ropes, and hit him right in the... chest protector. In a heated feud, in what's supposed to be the most brutal, career-shortening match around. Of course, they can't have people taking unprotected weapon shots to the head, and I wouldn't want them to. So they just shouldn't do that kind of spot in the first place. It's like they were trying to get the audience to go "hmmm, when you think about it, pro wrestling is really stupid".
  21. Who's that doing a sleeper suplex in a mid-90s WWF match?
  22. Why no capital N for Nikki? SANitY still looks suitably wACkY.
  23. Imagine how significant the first ever hell in a cell match between two women could be if it weren't part of an event where hell in a cell matches happen just because it's October.
  24. I don't know, I think it would make sense to have there be no rope breaks, but still disallow low blows, weapons, outside interference, etc. For that matter, why should there be no rope breaks in a triple threat match? Why not just make it so that getting disqualified leads to elimination from the match, leaving the other two wrestlers to fight one-on-one? That opens up further booking possibilities AND would make a triple threat no DQ match its own special stipulation. This is why having them be no DQ by default doesn't make much sense to me.
