  1. I just get the impression that Roman does one thing really well which is act cool and kick ass (okay two things). Which is cool. Because he is a young guy who is super good at both of those things and it would be crazy to expect him to be this super well rounded performer at this point. It would also be crazy for a forty or fifty-something(?) guy like Casas to be able to do everything as well as he does including brawl with the most physically imposing guy in Rush or match holds guys or do comedy or every other thing you can think of. I do think Reigns works a better finishing stretch than Casas which is huge but I still think there is more meat in the Casas Sandwhich right now.
  2. Regal actually served as a less chaotic version of the 'shit just got real' card in NXT against Ambrose last year and Ohno in this one. Like maybe he wasn't going to throw a telephone pole into the crowd but he was going to grab someone by the left nostril and absolutely torture them with it. It was like the NXT guys didn't feel like they could really cut it in the big leagues unless they could get past the veteran. I feel as though he sort of passed that banner onto Cesaro now which is cool by me, but I doubt Antonio will be able to bring the same degree of quality limb work to the role.
  3. I didn't vote because I don't have time to watch enough Nakamura to make an intelligent decision. I think Neville is totally a guy to watch for next year as he seems to be putting the pieces together in NXT as we speak. He does a really good job of letting other characters shine and providing a simple counterpoint to the insanity of NXT's roster. He also is way more of an all around talent than I originally thought he would be and the pointless flips aren't nearly as numerous as I thought they might be given his hype coming into the WWE system. All of this is coming a bit too late in this cycle to make a final 8 push but you can see how he is on the right path.
  4. Which indy stuff are you talking about? I'm thinking specifically that the half nelson suplex and the suicide dive might be things he saves for big matches. I think of all the things he does, that those two are the ones that don't really fit the rest of his set. Because part of the charm of Harper (and Rowan) is that they have this sloppy untrained quality to them and I think Harper may be overstepping the bounds of his gimmick if he gets too fancy. I think "Yeah, yeah, yeah" works much better in front of a smaller audience than a full-on WWE crowd which is why I think Luke dropped it from his act on the big stage. Seems like an intelligent decision on his part. Big Elliot has some really good pieces but he lacks a unifying whole to make him really work. I would drop the rope running splash down a peg so it doesn't have two rope bounces before hand. I would also step up the suplexes and (if possible) add a few variants. I really think Big E could follow the Rick Steiner/Taz template even with the larger sized members of the WWE roster and be an effective part of the show. It would distinguish him from the other big muscle clothesline throwers like Ryback.
  5. I'm sorry I couldn't read that right away. I was polishing my monocle.
  6. Corey did a really great job this past week on the show, it was easily his best performance that I have seen from him. He is still missing a couple of pieces to the puzzle like how to build the heat segments while keeping them interesting. But no one in NXT does nothing to give the fans anything to cheer for like Graves. Even Bo can get something funny out during his promos.
  7. I actually prefer discussing trends and overarching character pieces than the "check out this match on 9/23/77", "Oh no the match on 4/24/84 is much superior" method of argument that the board usually follows.
  8. Is the USWA with Richard Lee when they really first came out as these completely insane things from the bayou? Watching the old WWF footage and some of their other older stuff, they really didn't seem to work that madman style and were more normal Kiwi Sheepherders from Portland rather than the Sheepherders against the Fantastics. Keeping track of which Moondogs were around at a particular time sounds like a job for ... someone else.
  9. The first 45 seconds of that Ishii - Shibata match is everything I hate about Japanese style wrestling.
  10. I mean I could make a case for KENTA because he looks like he might actually be trying to actually fight a guy rather than put on wacky submission exhibitions but no one has taken that bate in several rounds of this thing. I guess people love their balding senior citizens.
  11. I'm not voting in three of the contests today because I can't bring myself to vote for any of the six options into the third round.
  12. Not to be completely oblivious but what did Colon have to do with Brody? Another dude murdered Brody, what was Colon's involvement?
  13. The gut check thing would have been a great way to get new people on TV if it wasn't, you know, TNA. But the way they structured it where winning didn't matter and taking it to the judges and every other silly thing ruined the concept. Take the thing, make it a tournament and maybe you get 2 guys over by the finals.
  14. Sure sure. I just haven't seen as much from him as the other two.
  15. Totally agree with Prancer, the first half of the Ishii match Tanahashi came off like this complete jag off and it was totally a refreshing change of pace from the usual stoicism you see in New Japan guys outside of Okada.
  16. Suwama struck me as an extremely generic puro guy with the same stuff as every other stocky guy in Japan. Virus (even though I voted for him) still bothers me with the submission moves flowing way too easily from hold to hold without a struggle. It comes off more 'your turn, my turn' than an actual contest. Give me someone like Regal who knows who to make everything look like work over the smoothness I get from Virus.
  17. It's not overlooked so much as Harper came out of the match looking leaps and bounds better than Hero so people are giving credit for it to Harper. I disagree. It was a showcase for both guys to me. I don't remember that much praise for Harper after this match, even if it was deserved. And even in losing, I thought Hero looked strong. I think the real issue is that Harper out did Hero at what Hero was supposed to be good at in terms of slugging it out. From a story line perspective, the best thing after the first match wipe out and the rematch where Hero looked a lot better would have been a third match where Hero learned not to go toe-to-toe and relied on some roll ups to finally get a win out of the deal. I think it would have been what Hero really needed to get over out of the deal and would have made for a better showing here. As an aside, Harper and Rowan have gotten over a vulnerability to pinning combinations while being virtually unable to feel pain. Heck, even John Cena used a school boy to go over Eric last week.
  18. Henry just can't do his best stuff while working from underneath. Its a shame he is such a nice guy that he didn't stay heel the entire time since the ECW run. The big guy is just made for cut off spots and standing on guys which just isn't as effective as a baby face. Rollins is super fun to watch. I love his sacrifice spots like when he and Reigns were caught in position for a double chokeslam from Kane and Rollins knocked the arm off Reigns rather than his own. Its really a unique character trait that you don;t normally see from a non cult character like a member of the Flock or something. I don't know how well it is going to translate to singles stuff, but unlike some people, I don't discount the skills it takes to be a tag team worker.
  19. Because of all people, John Cena has never been buried in a promo? Really? John Cena? Kay.
  20. Look at the differences in facial expression just in that match and you'll see Axel doing a whole lot better job of conveying being in a contest than you will out of Cody. Cody only really showed any emotion once the match was over and he was circling the ring. Meanwhile, Goldust and Curtis are emoting constantly. I don't see this as an unfair critique of a guy unless he's playing an iceman. I think part of Cody's issue right now is that he doesn't really have an identity right now as a face. He's a son and a brother, but who is he really? I'm never going to be able to watch a Cody Rhodes match without watching for this again am I?
  21. Hernandez is like the power wrestler counterpoint to flippy indy dudes in that he seems way more concerned about whether he can do something rather than if he should. At least the flipsters are more likely to break their own necks than Doug Williams'. Also bad tattoos. Also bad ring gear when he isn't being a Cholo.
  22. I may be voting for Cena just because he outright murdered Cesaro with a lariat before doing a damn Oklahoma Roll to set up the AA. Because that was so great.
  23. I'm not sure what card position has to do with anything in the Tournament since the WWE World Champion got busted out in the first round. I guess what I am trying to say is that if his leg is hanging on by a thread, he shouldn't be able to make the dropkick look effortless? Like I prefer it when Cena *really* has to struggle to get a big guy up for the AA. Okada can be a little too fluid for my tastes at times. But this is all like me being "What's wrong with this guy" and I pretty much do it for everyone. I voted Rainmaker.
  24. Look out Chris! Khan Kussion has a battle ax! I'm really kind of shocked this is so close.
