  1. The AWA run is ultimately pretty disappointing. I like the Bockwinkel match a ton, sure. He's also really good in the six man that made the set, but in general, there just isn't much there. He's a guy that's better in my head than the footage would show. I like his Portland stuff as much as the next guy but he's the least guy in the Bock vs Martel/Piper tag, for instance.
  2. The Debeers/Snuka angle is one of the last great AWA angles. It was pretty brutal. I mean unless you like BADD COMPANY EXPLODES a lot or something.
  3. Don't see Bock vs Debeers online but I liked that a lot.
  4. If I wake up tomorrow and one of you jokers haven't found and posted that dark match from Raw, I will be hugely disappointed.
  5. I kind of thought Skinner's character was secretly the bad guy in that episode or something.
  6. She's 100% the opposite of what they look for in a companion. A companion is like a running mate. She's there to appeal to the people that Doctor Who doesn't usually appeal to. Shopgirls and Coronation Street fans and Catherine Tate's preexisting audience and what not. (or, you know for the dad's, but I don't think that's QUITE as true anymore). They already have the geek girls. Why preach to the base?
  7. I loved the Doctor's reaction to all that.
  8. Dubious parenting division, case #11352 The 12 year old is going to be 13 in February. He's read stuff on various levels, plenty of steampunk (both post-apocalyptic and otherwise), Garth Nix's Keys to the Kingdom series, all of the His Dark Materials books, probably a dozen YA fantasy or sci fi series, etc (including Tolkien). He's reading Poe and Christie in school (he's in GT this year; more naturally inclined to math/science but we make him read so damn much and processes certain fictions that he can't help but be good at it). Every now and again I'll toss something I feel is a stretch at him, usually something I've read. Or by an author I read, and in years' past, he usually balks at it. I picked up Cory Doctorow's Pirate Cinema at the library and he's about 25 pages into it as of last night. I'm about 105 pages into it as of this morning, because I knew the IDEAS of the book were things I wanted to discuss with him and I have a mild sense of "Oh crap, what did I do." He's in 7th grade so I imagine there's not much in there that's going to be a massive surprise to him, but content wise, it'll be more vivid than what he's used to processing. So now I'm going to have to get ahead of it and awkwardly prompt him for discussion when his mother is not around. Because the book's good and it's good enough and basically shows enough leg early on content wise, that I think he'll stick with it. I think it'll serve him well to get through too, but it's also like giving a literary flamethrower to a 12 year old. It's not Rand or anything but there's a lot in there both conceptually and in content he hasn't encountered much yet.
  9. As good as any season since the reboot. Not as good as City of Death.
  10. My mother-in-law got my stepson (12) some random comics she saw at a flee market. Dragonlance comics and things. Nothing very interesting but he (who would not part with his Hickman FF trades for instance) doesn't want anything to do with them in the cleaning of his room and even though they're not good and I have no emotional connection to them, I still momentarily balked at the idea of just recycling comic books. It feels like blasphemy somehow.
  11. Well yeah, late era Claremont is usually pretty terrible. The earlier one is better. But they've really just taken some of the base concept.
  12. No Noble & Mercury = No Buys But it's free this month.
  13. Damn, now I am sad. I always liked the chemistry between Kaplan and Strassman and hoped I'd get a wife that laughed at my jokes like Mrs. Kotter did. I think that Mr. & Mrs. Kotter were my favorite television "married couple." RIP. You know I sort of felt the same way (granted I saw them in syndication). I think a lot of people did, but in fact, she apparently hated that role since she was basically there to laugh at his jokes and nothing else, which makes it all seem somehow selfish or bittersweet.
  14. Another perfectly fine day ruined by having to resort to doing actual work because the board was down.
  15. How do you feel about subtitled HUSTLE though?
  16. I still think it's a mistake to have Ambrose feud with Wyatt. Both of those guys need to be built up right now. It would have been better to have Rollins put a bounty on Ambrose' head and have him definitively go over a few mid-card monsters until winter. This is a case where the lack of the old territory system hurts. You can't just bring in Abdullah the Butcher anymore, you know?
  17. By the way that Watts booked him, you would have thought that Wells was one of the biggest stars of the 80s.
  18. That Jumbo/Haku match is a perfect example of just how neutered Martel and Hennig were as heels in WWF compared to their earlier runs. I think Martel's face run holds up very well in WWF, but he just doesn't have the matches as a heel. Almost everything you see from him is disappointing.
