NWAClassics.com streaming service - Paul Boesch Houston Library
Sammy replied to goc's topic in The PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING
I don't really follow sales for DVDs, but I'd imagine that they have fallen off the cliff. If historical footage isn't driving network subs, isn't selling DVDs any longer, and isn't generating revenue from Netflix or other streaming services, I don't see why Vince would buy it. Between AWA, World Class, Mid-South, Florida, WCW, and Crockett, he's gotten most of the best footage sewn up for important career retrospectives and historical pieces. As far as I'm concerned, the more stuff that stays in the quasi-public domain on free streaming the better. -
You mean clearance tag?

Wrestling cliches that should be brought back
Sammy replied to cwoy2j's topic in The PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING
I've been thinking about the cheating thing the last few months. I'm not sure it works with today's audience. I don't want to climb on a soapbox, but I have to bring up the possibility that Americans have become inured to both lying and cheating. The fact that we have seen cheating babyfaces for a few generations just adds to this, making audiences yawn at cheating rather than getting angry. -
Podcast Potpourri (aka Not Austin, AOW, Talk Is Jericho....)
Sammy replied to Rev Ray's topic in The PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING
I've been listening to lots of different podcasts in the past week as I'm interested to hear what everyone has to say about Dusty. What's the thoughts on the Cheap Heat podcast? I tune in every once in a while to get a handle on what the "mainstream" thinks about wrestling today. Sometimes their info is way off base, and I don't always like their opinions, but Rosenberg's enthusiasm is refreshing. -
Rest in Peace to the legend, Dusty Rhodes
Sammy replied to supremebve's topic in The PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING
It's amazing that the smark hivemind was ever anti-Dusty. It just goes to show how much the MOVEZ~! movement took over people's thinking. Most were anti-Dusty in that he used his booking power to keep himself on top, rather than the quality of his promos or his work. -
Rest in Peace to the legend, Dusty Rhodes

URL is here-- it's a neat little B/W piece from a 1980 AWA show backstage at the International Amphitheater. I was lucky enough to travel to there to catch a lucha show before they tore it down. Great building with a lot of history. Dusty was one of the greats. While his booking and backstage personality might evoke some mixed emotions, anyone who is a fan of wrestling is a fan of Dusty Rhodes. There will never be anyone else like him. -

I've been looking for some English subs for the new(ish) Tiger Mask movie, and on my search I stumbled upon a few translated TM goodies: Some Tiger Mask comics Tiger Mask cartoon (more in comments of site)-- this one has Tiger Mask & Inoki vs. Jack Brisco & Baron Scicluna.

OK-- now on to the ridiculous shit!

Just a cool image, and I love the constant hyperbole in the mags.

Ric Flair Was There on the Facebook is pretty amazing. More credulous claims by wrestling magazines:

Also, has anyone pulled off a powder blue suit since the 1970's? Go to a wedding in Milwaukee.

Or the Na Na Na Na Na Batman tights?

When getting punched in the face, one will often bleed from the eyebrow area. It's a short trip up to the forehead from there.

It's an upper body business, kid.

I'm working my way through the Adrian Street books, and only have 1-4. So far the Rev doesn't steer us wrong-- they are really good. Has anyone read the new one? It looks like it covers his days wrestling in the U.S.

That lady is wearing a bitchin' Marie Osmond costume. Edit: goddamn it. -
They are OK. The writing is a bit stiff and reeks of amateurism. That being said, thematically it was right up my alley, so I enjoyed reading them. There isn't much in the way of wrestling fiction, so these books kind of stand out.

Damnit.
