  1. I think so. In the sense that he's known, cheered pretty strong in some cities (for his consistently great effort), and known to be competitive in his matches. With said matches being generally fun.
  2. I'd love to see AEW stop excessively 'switchtasking' all their information during the matches. It's incredibly distracting, and a complete waste. Let Renee do a focused segment running down ticket info, upcoming matches, and TV schedulings. Let the information be heard properly and let the matches breathe.
  3. This Canned Collision felt flat throughout despite some good stuff. I often wonder if the Schiavone post production voice overs are as obvious to the regular viewing audience as to me? Taped AEW always has a weird audio mix with the crowd seemingly lowered while the commentary is raised - this is not pleasing to my ears. Swerve-Blake Christian was fine. I'm a fan of the Jacksons, but not at all a fan of the continued 'EVP' stuff. Kayfabe strip them and Kenny of the titles please, so we can move on without authority figures again. The Omega-Bucks post match angle was strong. Toni-Aminata was alright, but my expectations may have been a bit too high. The Team Sonjay promo was not particularly intriguing. This was my least favorite Caster open challenge. Did not like his chemistry with Hologram. I'm trying to understand what it says about a crowd that follows along with Caster's long winded chant? I was a bit disappointed by Cru-Top Flight. A lot of silly weak looking spots early and then shiny garbage cans/lids. Not nearly enough heat and aggression. I do really like the Andretti/Lio team, and glad to see them get a win. Ugh, not at all a fan of Anna Jay RETURNING with no fanfare at all. Fucking promote this! She deserves to be treated like a credible star. Bandido-Dralistico was another fine if underwhelming match. Good Big Bill/Keith promo. I like a match vs GOA. I want to like a strong win for Rush over credible Fox, but I can't not wonder how long before Rush is on another hiatus. The Barretta/Romero promo/attack on the Outrunners was sorta arlright. Where's Don? And an excellent FTR-O'Reilly/Strong Main Event to close it out. Dax/Cash are such fun heels and I very much like the pairing with Stokely. Good call to whomever mentioned Stoke's Janet Jackson 'Control' looking tracksuit. Nice work on Roddy's anke with a really fun comeback. Not my favorite show, but terrific main event.
  4. Phil knows, but I hope there's no bending to anybody suggesting a first fall 3 or 4 etc. way match. Dean rightfully hated that garbage. Also, RIP Black Terry - a suspected significant loss for Dean 2/3.
  5. Curious what lacked credibility? I thought the Bucks v Knight/Bailey was a ton of fun. And a pretty excellent return for the Bucks. They worked their asses off and made the makeshift team of Bailey/Knight look great - as is their per usual. Ospreay disappearing was noticeable, but not a dealbreaker for me. I liked seeing Takeshita/Alexander beat the shit out of big Brody.
  6. Not that he coined the term, but I always loved Dean's use of 'I back that play'. Seems appropriate here. I sense if 2 and 3 are anywhere near as good as 1, this could become a major event for years to come.
  7. Great news! EDIT: Oops, already a thread. https://deathvalleydriver.com/forum/index.php?/topic/11323-aew-to-co-produce-two-dean-tribute-shows/ In my defence - it's uh not the easiest board to navigate.
  8. A nice palate cleanser this eve after far too much WWE pagentry/standard weak sauce. What a rocking night of professional wrestling. An awesome main event, two pretty goddamn spectacular tags, Briscoe-Ric, and some good talkies with a Timeless cherry on top! AEWrulesTHEmotherfuckingWorld.
  9. I'm not sure how much intrigue the decision presents, but Joe-Moxley is something I'd very much like to see. A strong TV Main Event.
  10. The Garrett-Dave team on WOR feels like a treat. Like the shitty teacher who just discovered sarcasm is away and in his place a sub you actually kinda like. Maybe you disagree with a few things he says, and he does seems very attached to his phone/social media, but he has no whiny dramatic rants about things that would be better spoken about with a sense of humour. Even the nerdy kid, obsessing about business metrics, who always seemed kinda annoying seems interesting when the old battle axe is gone. Ps listening to Bryan Alvarez whine is generally worse than anything on any of the weekly prime time wrestling programs.
  11. It’s kind of a testament to how good this show was that there’s so little chatter about that McSegment.
  12. Easy tiger. Sorry I didn’t catch the ‘clue’ which made the point completely invalid. It wasn’t a super serious response, but seemed worth noting. I agree that as many as 3 million bands have strong latter day output.
  13. That may or may not be like saying I’ve heard ‘She Loves You’ and ‘I wanna hold your hand’ and then jumping to Double Fantasy and McCartney 2 to settle on an opinion of the Fab Four. To be clear, I like 2 and With Teeth, but not sure they rep the best of either’s work. The Reznor catalog from the Social Network forth feels better repped by his award winning and consistently strong score work. If we’re evaluating NIN it kinda centres, for me at least, on those first five years. Nice debut for Josh Alexander. Don doing his talking is perfick!
  14. The audience eruption on that closing choke!
  15. Yeah, I totally agree, but I kinda assume Hanger's getting screwed regardless of who it is. He's totally headed for that Elite Riders-Omega/Swerve feud. My mind keeps wandering to an Alexander-Ospreay match in the tournament final. It'd make for a pretty solid debuting month for the Walking Weapon. All that said, I must admit, I've sensed a number of things that have not come to fruition.
  16. I'm with you. And don't at all agree with the Mariah hate. She was a much bigger part of the Toni feud than is being considered. That was one of the best feuds in the history of the company, and she played her part wonderfully. I wouldn't suggest everybody loved her AEW Title run, but I did. It was a bit of a difficult situation with everybody clamouring for the Toni return and feud. It hurt the inbetween challengers/feuds. Regardless, throughout the run both her in ring and mic work was pretty goddamn excellent. She brought the best out of all the ladies she battled with. If she goes - I'll be watching. But I do kinda suspect this is just a better version of the 'bidding war of 2024'. I kinda think the end result will be that she stays in the Elite ranks. Or maybe I'm just hopeful. Good shout out there. I had the privilege of attending a card last week at Arena Mexico. The atmosphere is unreal. As is CDMX! Shout out to all the kind and beautiful ppl that won't see this in La Condesa!
  17. I like this line-up. Even if it's a complete disaster, I wanna know what Hurt Syndicate v GOA looks like. Death Riders v Opps should be a helluva tilt. Takeshita v Ospreay comes with some lofty expectations. I doubt they'll have any trouble meeting them. I also suspect Mercedes v Athena will be a whole lotta fun. Hanger v Wild Card is the dark horse. I'd love to see it be Josh Alexander. I definitely want to see Alexander v Hanger. It could also be Jungle. I probably like that match more than most. Interested to see how back to back nights work out for them. I've enjoyed the Dynamite/Collison 2 night concept in a live capacity a couple times now. Three if I include a Saturday Night Collision and the Forbidden Door. 'I want to watch it come down'.
  18. I can't say I haven't thought the same about Pretty Hate over the years. I don't anymore tho. I've come to thoroughly love that skinny fishnet clad androgny as I did when I was a teen. That said, if it's modern day jacked up Trent singing that stuff - I would probably agree. A bold call there. I wore out my CDr of 'Purest Feeling'. If we're digging in deep, 'Now I'm Nothing' from the 1991 live bootlegs is amongst my favorites. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-9Xp-DluqmQ Also a huge fan of the Closer to God EP. The Memorobilia Soft Cell cover is probably the NIN song I go back to the most. Note: I just took Fixed for a spin, and probably still prefer it in many ways to the Broken ep. I also just saw a matinee screening of Lost Highway; which, as we all know, features some nice Trent/Peter Christopherson drones and a fun little edit of Perfect Drug.
  19. Not a hot take, but ranking it number 1 might be. I'll rank it number 1. C'mon, apples and oranges. Both delicious and nutricious. Do we all feel similarily about the latter day smash 'She's Gone Away'? The 'performance at the roadhouse' was a highlight (of many many) from Twin Peaks-the Return.
  20. Saw'r Misericordia today and loved it. It's like Kaurismaki meets Hitchcock with a lil dollop of Pedro. Cahiers du Cinema suggested it was the best of 2024. I welcome it to the conversation at least. Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_wk2SgBIoF4
  21. Additionally, AEW has a history of having younger talent they intend to one day push work a series of competitive jobs before hitting their stride. Yuta, Fletcher, Guevara (not sure he still counts), Jungle Boy-in singles, and Willow are all examples of this type of build. The fact that Blake gets entrances, is competitive and is put over hard on commentary is an indication they have some hopes for him.
  22. Blake Christian is clearly not a 'jobber'. He shows his potential in every match and is put over strong by commentary throughout. He's in his paying dues phase. Further, I like the idea or choice of building Bowens with these kind of matches. If he's hurt by having to wrestle somebody like Blake for 9 minutes than he's not ready to move up the card. I like Bowens, but he's got a lot to prove. He also would benefit from not yelling every one of his promos.
  23. I'd love to see Harley Cameron get a Stardom/International tour in. Maybe even some shots throughout Europe along with Japan. And why not tape it and give weekly updates/highlights with wacky Harley travel promos. That'd keep her on TV while getting her the kinda reps she sorely needs.
