  1. Then I really hope AEW never catches on with the casual fan.
  2. I could not give less of a shit about how the casual fan feels about that. This isn't a shot at you odessasteps. I just cannot understand why I, as a wrestling fan, have to tie my fandom to the financial interests of the promotion I choose to watch. I watch wrestling for my own enjoyment. That's literally the only reason. I would like the promotions I like to be successful and be able to continue to produce wrestling that I like so that I can watch it, but that's it. I was happy to see Jun Akiyama on my tv wrestling Bryan Danielson on a random Saturday night, and that's as far as I go with it.
  3. I didn't say "no angles". It's just that sometimes a match can exist on it's own and be awesome. The story can be in the match itself. Simple things like one guy in a tag being less experienced can make for a compelling story. Can he survive the more-experienced team? Can his partner carry enough of the load to pull out a win? Stuff like that. That's one thing that TK has done well, booking-wise, is to have a clear hierarchy in the promotion. That can lend itself to inter-match stories when there's really no lead-up to a match. IMO, putting a legend like Akiyama in the ring with Danielson doesn't need an angle or a build. It's two all-time greats in the ring. That's enough for me. They can tell a story within the match and I find that compelling on it's own. Yeah, the shampoo thing is old, but I think it's a good example of having a story just for the sake of having a story. I think when you get tv writers, etc. involved, it can over-complicate things. There was a period where WWE was forcing stories and it just didn't work.
  4. Oh, man. The cool shit that could've been done with that 96-98 or so with that WCW roster is mind-boggling. We got little tastes of it on Worldwide and Saturday Night, but the possibilities there were nearly endless.
  5. I mean, I was 11 or 12 (I'm very old now) the last time the Big Ten had 10 teams. The Big 8 at least had the decency to update it's name when it added four more teams, but now the Big 12 is out here with like 16 teams?!?!?
  6. A couple of my favorite all-time matches were just matches that got booked because it would be cool if the two wrestlers faced each other. Kobashi/Joe and Necro/Joe jump to mind immediately. Hell, in Japan there for a while, we got all kinds of great shit because someone decided that Hashimoto wrestling Kawada would be cool and stuff like that. I'll take "Danielson vs random Japanese legend announced two days before a show" any day over "guys fighting because of a fake shampoo commercial snub" or "week 189 of one of the Usos feeling conflicted about Roman Reigns", personally.
  7. They really need to do some conference re-naming. Do any of the conferences with numbers in them have a matching number of teams? There are California schools in the Atlantic Coast Conference and Massachusetts is in Mid-America. Human sacrifice! Dogs and cats living together! Mass hysteria!
  8. I could see Andrew Scott making a good Doom.
  9. Three guys??!? That’s not Madness! Thats barely charcuterie!
  10. Oh, they gotta have “The Meat Man” John Silver in the Meat Mayhem, right?
  11. I’m sure those awards won’t look bad in a few months/years when more of the Vince stuff comes out.
  12. They should have someone be offended that they got included in Meat Madness. “Wait, what? Am I fat?”
  13. Bulgarians are probably my most-hated exercise that I still feel the need to work on. I'll have a set where I "lock in" and they move perfectly. Then, I'll have three where I'm all off-balance and struggling. So frustrating for me.
  14. As a kid, I found Hayes so unbelievably corny. Now, don't get me wrong, the Freebirds early run is all-time great stuff. It's just that by 88 or so, he seemed so dorky. He and Garvin as the Freebirds reminded me of those middle aged dudes who get divorced and try to become "cool" again and fail miserably.
  15. The only thing better than MEAT MADNESS~! is FREE! MEAT MADNESS~!!!
  16. If Hangman is out of the match, I really think it makes sense for a Swerve win. Being injured and missing a title match AND your hated rival getting the win because (in your mind) you weren't there to prevent it can push him further over the edge. Also, when Osprey/Takeshita was announced, my literal first thought was "Matt D's gonna hate this."
  17. Wasn’t Alexander a big D’Amore guy? Might make sense why he wants out.
  18. WWE fans won’t care. He can come back next week and he’ll get a huge pop and everyone will be talking about how cool it is that he’s doing wrestling when he doesn’t really need to.
  19. He was a trainer for OVW for a long time. He was also helping out in some capacity in Derby City Wrestling when it was running. Not sure what he’s currently up to. He’s fun to talk wrestling with because he apparently has a photographic memory. I mentioned a date that Poffo’s ICW did at my hometown high school in the early 80’s and he busted out the exact date and the card.
  20. A hair vs. hair match with two bald guys and one that's well on his way would be something.
  21. I haven't seen if they've announced any other last-minute matches for tonight. But, due to there not being much else announced, I have a sneaking suspicion that the BCC/FTR match may go long.
  22. And here we thought George Castanza making the Yankees wear cotton uniforms was bad.
  23. I do like that this Bucks heel turn (Were they faces before? I honestly can't recall.) has given the Sting/Darby match some actual heat. I would've been fine with them facing someone like FTR with the idea of having a "good match" for Sting to go out on, but I personally kind of like the bad guys trying to ruin his last match thing better. Now, would I like it more if it was someone besides the Bucks? Possibly. But, I'm cool with it if it was Sting's choice.
  24. Generally liked this season of TD, but felt like (and this is rare for me) it needed 2-4 more episodes to tell the story they wanted to tell.
