  1. John Cena got great matches and PPV programs out of Khali and Bobby Lashley. I'm not sure quality of opponent is an argument in favor of Austin.
  2. I would say that both the Umaga match and the Bryan match are better than the Bret match. I would listen to arguments about the Dude Love match being better than than the Bryan match.
  3. Any time someone has rose colored glasses about the Attitude Era and the overall talent of the roster, I implore them to go back and watch any of those Royal Rumbles. They were thin. Cristobal, was Austin better than Cena? He was cooler, for sure, but I would say that Cena had a better best match, the better top 5 matches, a better peak year, has had better matches with bad opponents, and a better stretch of TV matches with his US Title Open Challenge thing. Austin had a ton of memorable moments and made Raw appointment television, but I'm not sure I agree with the case that he's a better in ring wrestler.
  4. There are more good workers on today's roster than the entirety of the attitude era. Dolph Ziggler is not one of those good workers.
  5. Realistically, the Hawks played pretty well for long stretches of this series. The Cavs just played better, and when the Hawks didn't play well, they REALLY didn't play well. This was a weird series for Atlanta. Why did they never adjust? Was this a coaching issue? Did Bud just actively say "Keep doing what we planned, it will eventually work?" It seems like he has players that are willing to make changes.
  6. Please keep in mind I don't think that having song writers is inherently a bad thing, and I don't actually care at all, I've just been thinking about this and wanted to give an argument for the other side. I think it boils down to music being viewed historically as an inherently more personal medium. We hear one person's voice, and thus subconsciously assume that they are singing about themselves, their surroundings, their experiences. It's easy to see why people would feel betrayed when they learn that someone whose viewpoint they identified with isn't actually their own. It's some bald dude from Nashville. Film is a medium that is about other people. We are removed, we see other people doing things. There is a level of visual performances that we don't get from a radio single. That's the argument I think someone would try and make intellectually, but it's BS. It boils down to racism. No one cares that Elvis didn't write his own songs. They care that Beyonce doesn't. It's a way to declare minority artists as artistically and intellectually inferior.
  7. I would assume that means that Joerger thinks/knows that Conley is a goner.
  8. The Jackson hire felt from the very beginning like when a contractor gives a super high quote to intentionally price himself out of a job he doesn't really want, but then gets the go ahead anyway so he feels obligated to accept. I'm sure he told Dolan "5/60m with opt out clauses whenever" fully expecting Dolan to tell him to get fucked. Dolan said sure and now here we are.
  9. This release period includes two separate guys who basically owe their entire career to Miz getting them Austin level face pops simply by being himself.
  10. I selfishly want Dolph and Sandow to keep their jobs, simply so I don't have to see them on any indie shows, surrounded by wreddit posters talking about how they were underutilized in the WWE and actually were the best workers.
  11. So Plan It X is actually going to run a fest this year, in Spencer, IN. It's mostly folk punk stuff, but Ramshackle Glory will be coming together to play an actual final show. They sort of got guilted/tricked in to it. It's an absolutely blast of a festival, and it costs $50 for the whole weekend. Feel free to message me with questions or for details.
  12. Anyone from the good ol' DVDVR going to be at the Joppa show tomorrow? I'm thinking about making the drive down.
  13. I don't understand why Larry Bird so desperately wants to miss the playoffs next year.
  14. He was vanity searching twitter for his next big power point presentation.
  15. In Shane's attempt to convince his dad he can take over the family business, he felt the best tactic was a powerpoint presentation. No wonder Vince likes Stephanie more.
  16. I work within the boardgame industry, and I can tell you that we got more calls from other companies trying to promote games through it (in this case, Blue Orange) than we actually got from G&S or anything like that.
  17. I'm all for the draft being in Philadelphia as long as ESPN hires EatDatPussy445 to be the team correspondent.
  18. The worst thing that happened to the Thunder was outplaying the Clippers down the stretch. They could've limped in to the four seed, beaten a mediocre Portland team in 5, and then had 2 winnable road games against the Warriors minus Curry before going back home.
  19. The dude is a genius. He parlayed a babysitting gig with the greatest team ever in to a head coaching job for multiple years. He will literally never be a hotter commodity. This is like when the 9th man on an NBA champion leaves to sign with the Bucks for 3/31m. Sure, he's going to be terrible and he won't win any games, but you gotta take the cash when you can get it. People don't offer to pay you millions of dollars every day.
  20. I hated Wade when I was in high school and he kept beating Steve Logan (the greatest Cleveland high school basketball player of all time) while he was at Marquette. I hated Wade when he tricked Lebron in to leaving the paradise that is Cleveland, OH for four years in the prime of his career. I still hate him now because it's all I've ever known. That being said, those last two minutes he was fucking cold blooded. He has a different gear than everyone else in that series. Kemba was basically doing his best impression of Lebron in Detroit in 04, and Wade yawned and said "That's nice".
  21. I will tentatively say that I enjoyed what the Browns did last night. They drafted a player they clearly coveted after trading down, and they collected enough assets for next years draft to both move up to a top pick while still keeping their own inevitably high pick. I'm sure they will screw up the actual picks, but everything they did works in a vacuum.
  22. I dunno, trolling Dolph Ziggler and ruining his attempts at "comedy" make him the #1 babyface in my household. I thought this Raw was good, although I had an interesting thought at the end: If the roles had been reversed in the final segment, and Roman had taken the forearm only top pop up 30 seconds later after a distraction and lay Styles out with a Superman Punch, people would be screaming bloody murder. As it stood, it seemed pretty accepted as a solid end to build the pay per view match. Perception is a funny thing.
  23. I don't think we're giving Brooks enough credit. He consistently crafted a top 10 defense and a top five offense. The offense you can say is all talent, but I don't think Durant and Westbrook develop defensively without Brooks. Sure he's a bit of a mess in the playoffs, but unlike Wittman, he'll actually get there. It's not like there are a billion other great candidates clamoring to come to Washington. I would take Brooks over Walton in a heartbeat, by the way. It wouldn't even be a question in my mind.
  24. If this happens, it will be great, because there will be at least two 5 minute stretches where despite the presence of eight other basketball players, it will look and feel like the WCF is being settled by a full court one on one game between Dame and Russ. Then Dion Waiters will check in and decide that the WCF should be settled by a one on one game between Dame and him. It will not go as well.
  25. It should be noted that the Warriors have a negative point differential without Curry. The Clippers are a long running joke, but they are also a very talented basketball team that should be moderately favored in every game they play against the Warriors without Steph Curry.
