    MLB 2014: AUGUST

    And will still finish 70-92.
  2. Gave Pure Pool a try last night. Fun game so far. FABULOUS graphics - photo-realistic (seriously). However, the viewing angle for setting up shots is so close and zoomed-in that it makes long shots reaaaaaaaly hard. There's a free roam camera but you can't aim during that mode. And you can't zoom in on that mode which is a pain since the 3 & 5 balls look fairly similar. Anyway, good so far, but I haven't played online (and I've heard that's a bit of a trouble area...).
  3. Seriously, Fowler and jaedmc? Surely my legacy is worth at least three guys to fill my shoes, not THOSE TWO.
  4. Hey look, an Oral History of Varsity Blues
  5. Twice. Once in theater, once at home. Didn't really want to pay either time but I enjoyed the movie both times.
  6. That's weird. We rented the "Walter Mitty" movie on our Apple TV and it just fired up right away. No wait, no nothing. Just like picking a movie from Netflix.

    2014 NFL PRESEASON

I was wondering how he would spin chickening out before the NFL asked him to open his books.I don't doubt he can raise $1B, I just sincerely doubt he'd have the cash on hand to actually, you know, run the thing and pay the players. Oh man, I'm getting giddy at the idea of Donald Trump becoming John Spano 2. But isn't like 95% of that all that covered by media/revenue sharing. I'd think front office/stadium/and possible coaches salaries would be the only things not covered by media and revenue sharingHaven't checked the numbers recently, but like two years ago, the TV contract completely covered the salary cap.
  8. The knock on Stabler is the -28 TD/INT ratio. Even in the 70s, that sucked.

    MLB 2014: AUGUST

Justin Verlander actually pitched well last night - 8 innings, 2 ER. Only some very soft hits in the 7th prevented a shutout.
  10. Been too long since I've seen that movie
  11. Check out their matches with the Fantastics, both UWF and NWA. Their 6-man barbed wire cage match is a must-see, of only to marvel at it being shown on free TV.
  12. It's PS3 games that PS4 owners can rent and play on their PS4s.
  13. From IGN: Playstation Now's pricing is stupid Some highlights: - a few games have one week rentals for $14.99 - Saint's Row: The Third has just two options - four hours for FIVE BUCKS and 90 days for $29.99. IGN is basically spinning this all has being "not bad" for one week rentals but it's clear that the system needs a lot of work.
  14. Super Bowls is such a misleading thing to go by. You've got Terry Bradshaw, who has four titles - and yet his backups won more often and with better numbers than him during the regular season. You've got Jim Kelly, who played in four but didn't win any. Who was the better QB? And so on.
  15. I'll tout just one: Joey Gallo in the Texas Ranger system. As you all know, I'm a Tigers guy but I don't pay much attention to, or get to see much of, their prospects. I do, however, get to see a big portion of the Rangers' prospects, since a lot of them come through Spokane. Gallo is one of them. Gallo has ridiculous power* and started his career by hitting 18 homers in 43 games at rookie ball out of high school. He followed that up 38 homers in the Sally league at age 19. This season, as a 20-year old, he's hit 37 homers in 102 games split between high-A and AA. He's hardly a perfect player - he whiffs a LOT (143 in 432 PAs so far this year) but that can be worked on. He walks a lot (73 in 102 games) so that's good. Glove is decent but not great. Good athlete. Really, really high ceiling on this guy. * - in his brief stay (16 games) in Spokane, he hit the most amazing home run I've ever seen at Avista Stadium. He hit a bomb to right field that EASILY cleared a 75-foot light pole and just kept going. It landed well beyond the picnic area in right field and probably traveled 500 feet or more. Just an incredible shot in a ballpark where the ball simply doesn't carry.
  16. I didn't much care for the SNES versions of the NHL games - the Genesis versions were better. I also agree that 95 was better than 94 but I definitely played 94 a lot more. Sooooooo many glorious times with that game in our dorm room. I was unstoppable! I remember challenging a friend of mine, telling him I could beat him playing the entire game with no goalie. I did! Something like 9-8. I talked crap the whoooooole time. "Don't let me get the puck! I'm gonna score every time I touch the puck!" I actually had something like a 7-3 lead or something on him and then he switched to controlling his goalie manually to foil my breakaway move. That worked and let him make a comeback but I still pulled it out. And I never let him forget it either
  17. To me, he's a lock as well. A LOT of people said before his last Super Bowl if Arizona won, that Warner deserved to go in the HOF. Well, they were winning until Santonio Holmes happened. So...if Holmes drops that pass, somehow that makes Warner a better QB? He definitely had some bad seasons in the middle of his career but a lot of that was injuries and Mike Martz happening to him. Once he got healthy again, he lit up the AZ desert.
  18. That pic looks like a movie poster for some Lifetime teen-seduced-by-old-dude movie.
  19. Seriously, the Tigers bullpen is a friggin' grease fire. Soria comes in, gets tagged (again). 3 straight awful appearances. Chamberlain gets tagged for 2. Albuquerque gave up a homer and looked bad today. They have literally no one that comes in and you EXPECT to not have them scored on. NOT. ONE. GUY. And then there's Alex Avila - the .214 hitting catcher who strikes out in 33% of all plate appearances and is mediocre, at best, behind the plate. But, hey, we've got the last three Cy Young winners.
  20. Honestly, my reaction is "meh". The Tigers need bullpen help way more than rotation help.Or, for the love of god, a catcher. If Alex Avila isn't the worst starting catcher in the majors, I feel sorry for whoever is worse.
  21. The way Verlander has pitched this year, moving him to the bullpen and going with Price/Max/Anibal as a playoff rotation would be fine with me.

    2014 NFL PRESEASON

That's a whole separate issue. I'm just going on the "secondhand smoke" theory. You wanna argue the testing procedure or threshold are stupid? Go right ahead, I won't argue much.
  24. I didn't think season 2 was as bad as some other folks but it definitely does stuff that makes no sense. Stick with it, ignore the age-changing they do of the various characters, and enjoy one of the greatest shows ever made.

I'm not sure why that would be "patently unfair". I'm not saying he's gotta proactively not go to place X or not see person Y. But if he goes over to his friend's house and they're toking up, he should immediately turn around and leave. Or if somebody pulls out a joint, he should immediately get up and leave. I'm not sure what's so unfair about that. Does it suck? Yep. But that's part of the deal when you sign on the bottom line to play in the NFL.
