  1. The Phillies had the highest xBA (expected batting average) on any ball in this game. The Segura lineout in the 8th had a .910 xBA. The Astros had the 2nd through 12th highest xBAs, with the Phillies second best xBA being Schwarber in the 6th (groundout, .320 xBA)
  2. I'd imagine that not working a match since 2010 and the Hepatitis C might also be factors for Abby losing some weight over time
  3. Just remembered the part of this week's Between the Sheets where Zellner described Abdullah the Butcher's farmers market outfit as he was shopping for stuff for his Chinese restaurant and apparently put things in his wife's name. Wonder if steamed white rice would be a staple of Abdullah the Butcher's "I can't be so fat anymore" diet that helped slim him down post-Wrestling. I don't now what kinds of fried/steamed/edible rice are the healthiest, if any.
  4. Sullivan turned 18 just after the 1967 Impossible Dream World Series, so the Red Sox spent a good portion of his youth as a bad team that also had Ted Williams. Time for a Kevin Sullivan shoot interview where he talks about how bad the Red Sox were pre-1967 and how he avoided being sent to Vietnam. A good ol Youth Trauma shoot interview.
  5. "Bargain-conscious Jimmy Snuka"... because Captain Lou stole his money and he can't afford the expensive suntan lotions also, not sure if Kevin Sullivan was officially evil when this 1982 issue of The Wrestler was put together. I'm here for Army of Darkness Kevin Sullivan ranting about Joe DiMaggio and Mickey Mantle.
  6. probably not a coincidence that Bigelow was gone from the WWF after he got roughed up by Andre the Giant at MSG in June 1988? A certain amount of Bigelow's story in the late 80s involved him burning bridges (like how he 'charmed' Ric Flair in 1988 in the NWA)
  7. we're to the part of realignment where schools that haven't played football in 80 years hint at playing football if they join a conference?
  8. now that I think of it, it took Bigelow being in his 30s for him to start lasting longer than a few years in an American promotion. Bigelow probably would have made a good living if he was 10 years older and started in a wrestling industry that didn't mind rotating guys out every 4-6 months. Then again, it's possible he wouldn't have went into pro wrestling pre-80s boom since he initially decided to be a bounty hunter before being a wrestler. Also, I think Bigelow was a beneficiary of the WWF moving away from obvious roid guys in 1992. Because whatever roids Bigelow did, he didn't look like he was on that stuff. Kinda unusual how the guy unable to enter Canada got a major promotion job because he was reliable in one way. Just realized that Bam Bam Bigelow vs King Kong Bundy would have been one of the most South Jersey matchups ever done by a national promotion. A feud built on the premise that King Kong Bundy's Atlantic City took tourist business away from Bam Bam Bigelow's Asbury Park. Also.. just realized that Bundy managed to leave the WWF before they held the two quietest Wrestlemanias ever in Bundy's wrestling hometown.
  9. Somebody on YouTube created the account “The Worst Territory In The World” to repost Central States videos (that were already on YouTube from other accounts) Yes there are people who have posted 1984 Central States TV online.
  10. Stampede having 4 panelists instead of 5 really tells you how many plausible panelists are people who died way young, or how Bret wouldn't want to be on a Stampede panel with Bruce and anybody with a brain picks Bret in that situation. They kinda ended the story once Bret was in the WWF. Not sure if there was much else to tell after that.
  11. Dr. D worked at least 8 tag matches with Bad News Allen, but they were in July 1984 (and one in March 1985), so maybe Dr. D's timeline of "I worked with Bad News in Japan and then we came back to Calgary and he wanted my spot" was a little off? There was an 11 minute six man tag from March 1985 putting Inoki/Sakaguchi/Fujinami vs Bad News/Schultz/Steve Wright. When there's a group of 6 and the least bad man of the six is Fujinami or Wright, that's a group of dudes. Next week is Polynesian Pro?
  12. "I wasn't gonna buy from you until you unleashed the wrestling bear, I'm sold"
  13. with the World Series game at 7-0, i've remembered to tune in on time for Tales From The Territories Time to get weirded out by the visual of Abdullah the Butcher talking like a normal person
  14. McCullers was playing tribute to the Rope-a-Dope. Now that the Phillies are up 7, their bats will be exhausted
  15. If you go off of the HOF-related stats on Baseball-Ref, Bryce Harper is still a bit behind the average HOFer in everything, but it's possible that hitting a bunch of postseason homers could help Harper's HOF case a little but the case relies on him being an MLB regular through his 30s. Right now Bryce has 11 postseason homers in 33 games with a homer in every postseason series he's played except for the 2016 NLDS. Here's the list of 'similar batters' to Bryce through 29 (BBRef's similarity score will group him with other outfielders with similar stats through 29): Barry Bonds Justin Upton Prince Fielder Darryl Strawberry Mike Trout Duke Snider Shawn Green Freddie Freeman Carl Yastrzemski Adam Dunn So 2 HOFers (Snider/Yaz), 1 who isn't in the hall due to BBWAA voter morals (Bonds), 2 current players (Trout/Freeman), and the other 5 are Upton who is probably done as a regular, Prince who retired at 32, Darryl who played 100+ games once after turning 30 due to drugs/illness/etc, Green who was done at 34, and Adam Dunn who was also done at 34. The NL having a DH might be the best possible thing for a Bryce Harper HOF case due to his perennial injury problems.
  16. if a October 28-November 6 World Series is a little too much, at least the plan for next year is... October 27-November 4, 2023. I think they might need to maneuver in a few years to they don't want to have the World Series on a Presidential election night? (as opposed to last year when game 6 was taking place during New Jersey/Virginia/etc election night). Just imagine the ratings on November 2nd, 2032 with the Presidency and game 4 of the World Series between the Astros and the Rockies.
  17. I think Cornette's decision has more to do with Kane/Jacobs as opposed to Vice.
  18. excited for the newest addition to AEW:
  19. Auburn, AL is located close to places like Montgomery, Tuskegee, and Columbus GA. But, looking around Google, 5% of enrolled students at Auburn are Black (77% White). It's 75-11 at Alabama, 58-9 at Florida State, and 39-5 at Georgia Tech (another spot that people are trying to fantasy book Deion to) Not sure if there's any good survey data for how Alabama splits between Tide and Auburn fans and there's probably some ways where the general concept of "we're hiring a head coach to get more fans" could rub fans the wrong way at a little brother institution.
  20. in all seriousness, hiring Grifol is something that has the potential to irritate various groups of fans depending on how things are going White Sox fans might be annoyed if they continue to underachieve after hiring Pedro. some Royals fans might be annoyed if the White Sox do win with Pedro because they'll think that the Royals passed up a Royals guy for Quatraro (of course, the White Sox job has better players right now, and the fact that they didn't get Quatraro probably says something for how dumb their front office is) of course the reaction now is that the Royals didn't hire Pedro because they wanted to go external, but fans are more than capable of second guessing, like when no shortage of guys leave the Royals and have success elsewhere
  21. I believe that Cornette mentioned turning down Vice on his podcast I want a show where the host mentions news he heard that were pretty blatantly on other peoples podcasts
  22. Another Holiday clip. He looks like a Miami Vice villain who knows a guy that flies cocaine in from the Bahamas. Or he’s evil Ringo Starr. Take your pick. https://youtu.be/HkvKlL79vjY
  23. Imagine if the White Sox were a big market team
  24. A Jim Holiday clip. Gordon seemed pleased at the joke about his liquor license. https://youtu.be/Gv_jkPFzHwg
