August 2023 Wrestling Discussion

"I HAD TO LIVE UNDERWATER FOR A YEAR!!!" So good. -
Gonna need a Larry "DOG WILL HUNT" shirt.

Got home from The Summerslam, threw on Youtube, and Dennis fucking Condrey is damn near the first thing I see. Dear Lord, I love professional wrestling.
-
Just got home from the show. (I went to Taco Bell afterwards.) First off, I've never been around that many fans of the sport of professional wrestling in my life, and after the last few years that I've had, I fucking needed it. Shoutout to the little girl in Bianca Belair cosplay, replete with the braid, the kid sittin' in the row in front of me who I had a brief funny face contest with, and the folks sittin' to my right. They were really nice. Most over dude on the show by far was LA Knight. Maybe it's just the catchphrase, but the crowd fucking LOST IT when he won the battle royal. Most over lady in the company is Rhea Ripley. Mami's shirts were EVERYWHERE. The people love that woman and rightfully so. As for the matches... ...Say what you want about Suplex City, but that match translated the best to the crowd. Nothing but big, visible bombs that played super well to the back of the arena. The people hate Logan Paul. I think he's a douche, too, but he's good. Like, really good. Maybe even damn near Kurt Angle rookie year good. I generally hate Triple Threats as a rule, but this one rocked. Asuka delivered an all-timer of a mist job on Charlotte and I lost my shit. Iyo's cash-in was probably the best moment of the night. I'm gonna need to rewatch Gunther vs Drew. Couldn't hear Gunther's chops live. Stadiums make my heart sad. Everyone went pee and popcorn during Shayna/Rhonda. I like Shayna a lot, but this match was just not a good call. Frankly, don't try to do budget UWFI on a WWE stadium show post advent of MMA. Glad Shayna got the win, though. I don't follow the weekly TV really, so I'm not totally invested in The Bloodline story. Roman's matches can be pretty divisive, but I'll say that it takes a lot of confidence and guts to let things breathe that much. It might not come across as well on TV, but when Jey hit that first spear, it hit me why Roman works the way he does. That spear blew the roof off the place. It was pretty incredible to see. That said, they could've shaved off some of that space. I looked at my phone at 12:05 and the match still wasn't over. As far as how The Bloodline story ends/who beats Roman, it's quite possible that it ends with Roman still at the head of the table and he just switches his gimmick up. He very well could break Bruno's record. I really don't know who is gonna beat him. Anyway, I had a great night and I really needed it. It was my first live WWE show since 1987! PRO WRESTLING IS #1 AND THE BEST~!

Went to the Crystal Palace vs Sevilla friendly in Detroit on Sunday. First live soccer match for me and it was really, really cool. The match drew about 21,000 to Comerica Park, which was really nice to see.

I mean, I did have the thought the other day, "Fuck Zaslav, I'll just watch WCW Worldwide on Youtube exclusively in solidarity." Not that I expect Seth Rollins to have any sort of class consciousness whatsoever, but at least stop at "I stand by them."
-
CM Punk, FTR, Jay White, Dustin, Eddie, Mark Briscoe, Danielson...Samoa Joe? The Briscoes would've been perfect for it. I think Mox could probably get talked down out of the tree of going too long/thumbtacks/glass/nailboards, etc. Hell, throw Christian and Jeff Jarrett in there. At least Jarrett has that blonde hair that looks sick all covered in blood.
-
We need CMFTR in a Blood and Guts match. And not vs The Elite.
-
Really. really wish it was Iyo vs Asuka. Raquel vs Rhea will kick ass, though.
-
Please dear God, no.

Dear God, no.

This show rocked. I don't think it really needed an angle at the end or a hook for next week's show. This felt, to me, like an "educating the fanbase" introductory show. There was a lot more breathing room in every match on Collision that isn't there in a lot of matches on Dynamite/Rampage. I think it was pretty telling that Andrade vs Matthews wasn't anywhere near as balls to the wall as those two are capable of. That main event was AWESOME. For a match with no build, that thing had heat. Yes, it's in Chicago, and yes, CM Punk was in it, and yes, Samoa Joe and CM Punk haven't locked up in almost twenty years, but the work cranked all those factors up and milked them for all they were worth. I think the women's tag wasn't really much different than what they would have done on Dynamite, but if anyone looks better wrestling at a slower pace in the women's division, it's Ruby. Toni and Willow can definitely hang with that, and I think Skye Blue has a lot to gain working in this kind of environment. As an aside, Joe threw that first chop like he'd been waiting 20 years to throw it. GodDAMN, that was awesome. Looking forward to next week.

Just picture Brock coming down to the ring wearing Khabib's hat.
-
I want CM Grindcore or CM Ronnie James Dio.
-
Fucking LOST IT when Mark Jackson said "There used to be two announcers." God, that was awesome.
-
Well, I was expecting and hoping for a total slugfest in Game 1. Nikola Jokic, however, was completely unfazed tonight. He pretty much auto piloted his way to a triple double. Kinda seems they let Bam get his and shut the rest of the Heat down. That said, Miami got a lot of really good looks and couldn't throw the ball in the ocean. That's not gonna be the case for the rest of the series. Hoping for a more competitive game 2, but three wins left for the Nuggets!
-
That takeover in the 2nd half started with his rebounding. There was one that was about as artistic as his passing. Then there was that stepback three off one foot.
-
If Ime Udoka was still coaching Boston, this series is probably 2-1 in favor of Miami and the Celtics don't get blown off the planet tonight. Jimmy has found the team he's always been looking for and Coach Spo is one of the best.
-
Goddamn, I love Jimmy Butler. Reporter: We'll see you in Miami, Jimmy. Jimmy: Oh yeaaaahhhhhh Him grinning when Grant Williams started talking trash was glorious, too. It's lookin' like a Nuggets/Heat Finals and everyone deserves it. So stoked.
-
I love that KCP and Bruce Brown are on the Nuggets. KCP was my favorite Piston during that era.
-
The things that Kiss and pro wrestling have in common are the fact that they both fucking rule, and if you get into 'em when you're a kid, they're probably gonna stay with you the rest of your life.
-
Show him this one, too, while you're at it. https://youtu.be/PSURhxNYmDw It was my favorite Kiss song when I was 12. Still is.
-
19 points, 17 rebounds, 7 assists at the half and the Nuggets are up 18. This is definitely taking the edge off the Pistons getting the fifth pick. Thank you, Nikola.

Elite vs FTR/Punk is happening in the U.S. if it happens. They should do Hayter vs Saraya and put Hayter over clean as a sheet, though.
