Tomlin I don't think has ever went outside his current staff to hire a coordinator. He also often hires guys most other NFL teams aren't particularly interested in to fill out his staff. He might need to step outside that comfort zone and get a true fresh voice in the locker room.

The only thing I can think of off the top of my head is Mike Leach dying in-between the end of the season and bowl game last year. But even then Mississippi State had about three weeks before the game.

Although Michigan is, obviously, losing a ton of talent, there was some good news for the program. Safeties Rod Moore and Makari Paige, Edge Josiah Stewart, and RB Donovan Edwards all announced they are returning to Michigan for another year There's a ton of holes and questions on offense, but the defense has a hell of a lot coming back. Graham, Grant, Hausmann, Johnson, Sabb... Definitely got the talent to be one of the best in the country again (though I kinda suspect if Harbaugh leaves, Jesse Minter probably goes with him to the NFL.)

JDR has way too many misses for me to put him real high, even though his best stuff is great. Waid is my favorite guy for straight up classic super hero type stories. Grant... Well, they are the best. Period. For me, at least, there's never been anyone better than them.
