  1. If those five walked into a bar when they were all the same age, I know exactly who would be the first to talk shit and who would throw the first punch to defend them. Nowadays, I know who exactly would be the first to talk shit and the first to let them get their ass kicked.
  2. *mumbles* Goddamn Japanese obsession with copyrights and personal ownership...
  3. Anyway, back in the forgotten days of Crimson Peak discussion, here's this. http://deadline.com/2015/10/crimson-peak-guillermo-del-toro-donald-trump-mexican-immigrants-1201585629/ I'm consistently impressed by the eloquence and brain behind Guillermo's films (and you should really see the Director's Chair from El Rey of him speaking and then you'll read the whole damn thing in his voice). I STILL haven't seen Cronos, and STILL haven't seen Pan's Labyrinth, but the man as a person is someone I deeply admire. He had a quote in an issue of Deep Red (RIP Chas. Balun) that I read that always stays with me but I haven't read it in quite awhile but I'll dig it up tomorrow. It's perfect.
  4. I read this and immediately saw Bill Murray in my head pull a face and shrug. Which is probably what the reaction will be.
  5. The Langella Dracula is legit great. It has a moment that Stephen King talked up in his great book on horror in cinema and literature, Danse Macabre, that will freak you right out. A film that old having effects that still have that frisson is amazing. Halloween II is on right now and I have to say, maybe it's because I saw it first, but I like it just as much as the original (and no I am not talking about Rob Zombie's abortions). Maybe because it's so over the top but at the same time still similar. Even the dumb cop got some good lines. EDIT: I think it also has to do with the ending having the best death of an immortal slasher villain ever
  6. Hey now. The Midwest is full of assholes, but there are huge enclaves of people here that could give less of a shit for anything Clint Eastwood sympathizes with politically. While still being bright enough to understand that High Plains Drifter, Unforgiven, and Gran Torino are great yet incredibly fucked-up movies.
  7. Not me, I missed it too. But I DID catch the Michael Mann Director's Chair and I have even more respect for the man(n), he's a sly Chicagoan who doesn't give away all his secrets, but you can see the wheels in his head turning like mad the whole time.
  8. We have failed as a board for not doing the Boomer Sooner joke for Mr. Strongman before.
  9. That is some serious MISC MATCHES fare right there. I looked on Youtube but couldn't find anything, sadly. Putting in "Tarzan Goto Ichiro Yaguchi" will lead you to some pretty weird results though.
  10. At least GG Allin had good songs. Well, "good" is a relative term in that case, but it certainly doesn't apply to the Mentors. Plus, GG introduced me to Warren Zevon.
  11. Jane Drano is so good. Also another crush I have from the formative years of LA punk. I haven't heard any Catholic Discipline aside from the two Decline songs; first one sounds like bad Screamers, second one is decent. By the way, Tomata du Plenty... THAT is a NAME.
  12. His work with the chair was sub-Lance Storm, too. C'mon you old stiff bastard, light 'em up! That pop for the Claw was great. Everyone just stood up. The crowd in the other tag I posted was just as hot. Pretty much any organization in the world would love to have that these days.
  13. Crowd riot? Okay I gotta see this. Haha someone just pitched a chair at Hawk's head at the end there, and being Hawk, he totally no-sold it. I don't know WHAT Precious Paul was thinking about with that wardrobe. The Big Cat! Dammit, Dean beat me to the pizza commercial. EDIT: Hey, him and Bock! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7rS4PRKG6W8
  14. I just remembered about the Carcass member pseudonyms: K. Grumegargler, J. Offalmangler, and W.G. Thorax Embalmer. I paid tribute to them on the demo release of yet another band I was in by naming us G. Bongripper, C. Boxlifter, A. Dreadtwister, and S. Woodchipper. Dreadtwister should have been Dopeshooter but that was a little too on-the-nose; thankfully he's cleaned up his act in that respect. Sam still drums like a fucking woodchipper haha... and I still lift boxes.
  15. ^no comment haha Nice Pogues reference btw So, TCM played The Decline of Western Civilization last night for whatever reason, and I was reminded of some more names: Derf Scratch Chuck Dukowski (so disingenuous for the real mad genius of Black Flag, and a great tribute) DJ Bonebreak and maybe the ultimate... KICKBOY FACE Goddamn Claude Bessy is missed. Such an absolute smartass, loudmouthed frog prick who was completely brilliant. His band wasn't very good, but listening to him talk is fantastic. I've actually never read his writing in Slash but apparently somebody put the whole run of the zine on .pdf files according to Dangerous Minds: http://dangerousminds.net/comments/the_entire_print_run_of_classic_punk_slash_magazine_is_now_online I've got to get to those sometime. Just looking at what Dangerous Minds posted is so, so good. Oh yeah... I still have a crush on Exene Cervenka. Sorry John Doe (goddamn, that's another one!)
  16. Boredom on a Thursday night off leads to REALTIME SMACKDOWN REPORT 10/15/15 Bo is starting to be a bump freak after that Lesnar slaughter. Match was short but he ate a lot of big hits from Reigns, and unsuccessfully tried the Fuerza handshake. Please Reigns just don't talk. Guess they're trucking out Flair, HBK, Lesnar, and Taker for Raw. Apparently Vince doesn't like those ratings. King of Bad News! Nice. Cesaro is wearing an arm sleeve that says '(something) uppercut (something)'. Booker calls Sheamus "Scotch-otch", and then Re: his mohawk, "with these young guys it's a different world, King". Yeah, since what, the early '80s? Cesaro monsters up on the hot tag and does a reverse tortillo springboard European uppercut (I never thought I'd put end up putting that line together) but eats a rabbit Bullhammer for the cheap win. These guys have a way, way better and longer match in them. Dean's bag contents: stolen hoodie, stolen hoodie, stolen Slammy, someone's stolen car keys, Slinky, Magic 8-Ball, balloon animal, Payday bar -- ate with the wrapper on. Piranesi could run wild with the personal significance he has with these items. The Payday reminds me of an old Charles Bukowski anecdote which is just spot on. Another squash? Okay. Not like Ryder has anything else going for him anyway and Owens looks good doing it. How fucking stupid was that Raw main? Why would anyone want to bother watching that? For that matter, how can anyone get behind "Bitches Be CRAY-CRAY" and "Bitches Be Scheming" for the umpteenth time? The Divas factions, Rusev, Summer, Lana are all caught up in this shit (I don't really care about Ziggler at all though so I don't mind him being stuck in this storyline hell). Jesus wept. Straun Browman gets a video package! Titus does a Vader Attack! Getting put in a headlock by Harper looks vomit inducing! Shit, Darren Young gets All Japan with a stiff-ass back elbow and an apron neckbreaker! We continue with the squashes but at least this was moderately competitive. Booker: "They need to be not just perfect, but poi-fect." Said for no reason whatsoever. I think Dusty's spirit has possessed the man. More Booker: "It's a deet!" Que? Damn, that double kick was pretty smashmouth. Charlotte's paintbrushing by the Bellas was mean too. Once again WWE picks someone using a Spear to push. Then we get more crazy Paige crap. Wow, they didn't B&W the blood on the Summerslam replay. Bet you a million one of the two are gonna bleed in the Cell because they've got the pull... too bad it won't be Wyatt and Reigns. "One of the great brass percussions of all time" -- holy shit Black Snow's on a roll tonight! New Day stealing from the Beasties is such a perfect match. Dean as Spike to the Dudleys is pretty cool too. Kofi is so revitalized now playing the fool, getting to pull faces, kick his feet when he's picked up, bumping all over the place. We get more blood from Xavier's nose and if he continues the trombone beatdown they're gonna go through a lot of money. A real good 6-man sprint with Dean getting a huge hometown pop. He deserved a dark match after where he beat the crap out of Xavier.
  17. Damn you for even reminding me of that scene, AxB. Fucking hell.
  18. I can do a lot if we can get into metal, especially black metal. Necrocock and Silenthell from Czechia's Master's Hammer immediately come to mind. Me and some old bandmates were sitting around shooting the shit and we came up with our own 'black metal names'; our bass player came up with possibly the best one ever: the Recreational Church Burner. (I was the Alcoholic Sodomizer btw)
  19. This reminds me of two other things. 1. The guy running the bar on Tony Bourdain's show that ran bikers out (in wherever city. I think it was Chicago on The Layover) by playing opera on the jukebox. 2. Someone here that actually put on the film Aftermath to do the same thing at his homestead. Which is just... whew.
  20. Is that Iron Mike DiBiase next to Dickie in that pic? Masa Hori's page, where I got it from, didn't say. In fact I didn't identify DiBiasi Sr. until he said who it was -- and if you don't recognize that's Jumbo Tsuruta as the fourth man. I think everyone can identify the rest, even though skinny young Barry Windham looks to be all of 17 and Dick is "imitating" Flair in the first pic EDIT: Nevermind, I didn't get the gist of the discussion you guys were having for a second there. It's likely just some random cowboy, but if anybody knows who, let us know.
  21. I read an article the guitar player from the Mentors wrote about their final tour that was about equal to the sleaze thread, only more sad and pathetic. Plus I hate hate hate their music, so I had to say something. Let's give another shoutout to the ladies and mention Beki Bondage from Vice Squad! Also, I've always loved the British crust band tendency to short it down to one word -- Boobs from Disorder is a favorite, and I think one of the drummers from Doom was just referred to as Stix haha
