not singling you out, @Casey, just quoting you as yours is the most recent post about this. \ I think the big thing is that "ex-WWE" has become the shorthand for a variety of different things. longtime WWE talent (i.e. Edge) talent that has only existed in the WWE system (who we've presumably seen throughout their various stages of development) (think back to when "cookie cutter" was a somewhat valid criticism) talent coming in doing the exact same character they did in WWE talent who were overpushed in WWE so now coming in on top (the worries about Braun Strowman) midcarders who were "held back" or had a reputation that they would shine "without WWE constraint" (the aforementioned Swerve and Toni) i think everybody has their line of what they would personally accept or not accept, but they're all referred to by the same "WWE castoff" tag. And that's not even counting performers who were solid if unspectacular. I don't know any of this latest round of releases, so i don't know which category i would see them as. But i wish we could stop using this shorthand to dismiss anybody that has ever worked for the company. I don't think anybody means it that way.

good news, 3/4 members of Dru Hill were not included in the comparison. Only Sisqo.

the Void puts you in your own worst personal memories. It feeds off your fear/anxiety/whatever. You suffer and eventually die. at least that's my take.

TNA 2025 - A Division of TKO Media
twiztor replied to Dolfan in NYC's topic in TNA WRESTLING (Though it forever be Impact)
unless i missed something, TNA is still independently owned. But i also don't know the specifics of their working agreement. WWE/TKO couldn't force TNA to hire/not hire somebody. WWE certainly could decide not to showcase/feature any of [WWE's] recently released wrestlers. Or decree that they didn't want any of [WWE's] wrestlers "independent contractors" associating with said talent. TNA could decide that the easiest way to comply would be simply to not hire these people. But i doubt that will become their policy. More likely a case-by-case scenario. And besides, i don't know that WWE would try to force that play. TNA is paying peanuts. If a talent gets over big, it's not like WWE wouldn't be able to swoop in and start to feature them again/buy out their contract. WWE treating TNA as an unofficial developmental is pretty much perfect case scenario for WWE. -
is there a list of AAA talent that is now signed with WWE? Also, a quick who's who since i don't follow lucha.

it would be a pretty cool advancement if, for example, the AEW TBS Champion and the ROH Women's TV champion just started teaming up and their individual titles just kind of became tag team titles. Has something like that happened anywhere before?

saw this last night. loved it. it's no secret that i've enjoyed the last couple years of Marvel movies- definitely not as much as the first few years, but i don't expect them as the end-all, be-all of films. BUT. this one was excellent. highly recommended. Ditto the sentiment that Ghost was underutilized (as she is my least favorite of the group, i'm OK with that). Bob talking about his headspace was on fucking point.

An actual WW2 soldier, frozen in 1944 and waking up in, say, 2004 would be a tremendous amount of culture shock. Waking up in 2024? they would think we lost the war.
-
i think it makes it tougher when in-universe history gets tied to real world events. We have definitely been seeing that for decades now with how many characters have their roots in WWII. i was thinking the other day about Captain America. he got frozen towards the end of WWII, let's say 1944. He gets awakened in Avengers #4, 1964. So many stories were told of him being "a man out of time". But at this point, he was gone for 20 and has been back for 60.

This month is starting off hot. Everybody take a step back and breathe.

I remember really liking Bea Priestley when she showed up on AEW a few times back in the early years. I wouldn't mind seeing what she can do nowadays. either that, or it's a very meta take for all four to literally end up in different places.

Video Games 2025 VIDEO GAMES CATCH ALL THREAD
twiztor replied to RIPPA's topic in COMPUTERS & GAMES & TECH
what is the point? In other words, what is the benefit to downloading the game if you can already play it? (sorry if that's a dumb question, but i am the only gamer in the house and pretty much only do physical games) -

about a year ago, went to a friend's house. He wanted to LAN a bunch of XBoxes together and play Halo (not sure of which game). I don't remember the specifics, but i think the only way he could get it to work was to just connect all the systems to the internet and play online. Connected to a server, and the VERY FIRST thing we all hear is "F-ING NI----S" followed by a few other slurs and other derogatory words. So, we didn't play Halo. And it perfectly encapsulates exactly why i don't play online games. can somebody please explain these? what are they? i saw a bunch of online vitriol, but no explanation. And at this point, i'm not willing to dig through all that just to satisfy curiosity. -
interesting that AEW would be doing sort of an ECW Arena residency.

i almost mentioned Taker, but he's a tough one. he didn't seem to align with face/heel dynamics to me. But then, i have always been into the scary/spooky/Halloween kind of stuff, so maybe i just couldn't look past that. I think my reaction was more wide-eyed astonishment rather than cheers or boos. The man's presence in that role was incredible.

Raven's shoot interviews were the first ones that i actually found interesting in a "learning about the business" way instead of a "listen to these crazy stories way". I definitely went out of my way to listen to them more than once. He was the first one i heard breaking down story beats, both within a match and longer form storytelling. It gave me a lot more respect for him, and i was already a fan before that! (i'm on record as being a Lash fan too)

Vanilla Ice is significantly better than he gets credit for. I would still hesitate to call To the Extreme a great album, but it is good. I went out of my way to purchase a copy on vinyl, despite that it 1) is from 1990 (my personal vinyl cutoff is 1989), and 2) was never released in the US. Anyway, and i know that i'm veering further off topic, V-Ice's 1998 album "Hard to Swallow" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hard_to_Swallow) (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QwQXyi0vn2g&list=PL-ZtqwTMNnhKXvd1VCFEJxcMM4d21YFTU) is pretty great for a harder rock/nu metal kind of sound. and his 2001 follow-up, "Bi-Polar" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bi-Polar_(Vanilla_Ice_album)) (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nlcGY6KIbiA&list=OLAK5uy_kjhdRc85WfQFrDGgAye52uw_ouqJgXikM&pp=0gcJCV8EOCosWNin) is a double album, and the hip-hop side is quite a bit better than you'd expect. ok, Vanilla Ice rant over. but i can go deeper (like his Kraft Mac & Cheese commercial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CPLZ0vUHvwM&pp=ygUWdmFuaWxsYSBpY2UgbWFjIGNoZWVzZQ%3D%3D or his comic book (https://www.mycomicshop.com/search?IID=7375001) if i need to.

i have no recollection of this, but i do remember some of the covers. Are there ramifications in the main series? Was it any good? Is it worth checking out?

Picking up a crumb from last month's thread: Who was the first heel you rooted for, and what age group were you? Personally, and i just referenced this the other day, when Hogan and Savage feuded leading into Mania 5, i sided with Savage. I would have been 6-7. I think that speaks more to my absolute adoration of Savage moreso than my taste in characters, but it's easily the first instance of me going "against the narrative". I loved the Ultimate Warrior and the Legion of Doom and was back to cheering Hogan against the evil traitor Sgt. Slaughter a couple years later. I also always liked the Repo Man and the Mountie for some reason, likely the comedy. But other than those isolated incidents, i was fully aboard the babyface train until the nWo came about and rocked my world.

April 2025 Wrestling Discussion
twiztor replied to The Natural's topic in The PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING
i have NEVER, not a single time, found that a problem has been solved by following the "we need to start over and strip everything back to where it was years ago" belief. had a new manager at a job a number of years ago. I had previously worked alongside him, he was a good guy, but he had transferred out of the department to climb the ladder. i stayed and climbed within, just a bit slower. He came back and could not fathom all the changes/progress we had made. His solution was to revert everything back to how he understood. metrics tanked. he was ousted and i got the job. metrics flourished. thanks for coming to my twiz talk. -
wow. i should have looked that up before i posted. around here, that song played nonstop for EVER. i assumed it was had a good run at #1 (or at least top 5, off the dome i don't know what else came out in short order back then). and i definitely would have expected a few more of their singles to have decent chart locations. fuck the HoF for that (and for many other reasons)
-
i think there's a lot of truth to that! a story can't be told continually for decades without some hiccups. And i think the whole situation gets worse when you look at current comics being published, while older stories are still available. The likelihood of stories either contradicting what came before, or overlapping and telling the same story, just grows larger and larger. Plus you get one subset of fans that only care about the most recent ongoing run, while a different set is beholden to the Silver Age, how can you possibly appease both? When Batman isn't permitted to age past a certain point, but Robin (take your pick which one) is constantly going through "coming of age" stories, there's obviously going to be a conflict at some point. It really is a no-win situation.
