  1. well, officially, Hogan won the rematch for the WCW Title at SuperBrawl 7. Piper really wins with the sleeper, but Savage pulls Hogan's leg under the ropes after the fact and the referee restarts the match, which Hogan wins after nailing Piper with Brass Knux. this is where the nonsensical Savage nWo-turn happens. Hogan also pins Piper during both of their return to WWE in 2003ish. of course, Hogan was masquerading as "Mr. America" so maybe that doesn't count. but to answer your second question, i always assumed that Piper absolutely refused to lose to Hogan as a trade for not winning the title. with help from Savage I think. Piper actually won that one with the sleeper. Post-match, Savage and Hogan beat him down and cuffed him to the cage tho.
  2. not really that often from my experience watching. it happens a handful of times, but its not a weekly occurance or anything. on the other hand, when Eddie Guerrero gets injured in '97, they show an Eddie match and say that he thinks he's ready to be back and just testing out his shoulder. He wins, and Schiavone says that he'll probably have to take some more time off to fully heal.
  3. Diamond didn't ship the 3D covers to my LCS this week. i know this wasn't DC's fault this time, but in my experience they're 0/2 with their gimmick month deals. on the other hand, Grayson: Future's End is a FANTASTIC issue, 3d or not.
  4. man, i love both Kick-Ass and Wanted. can't believe i had to vote against both of them in round 1
  5. B&R is the only Bat-movie i've voted against thus far. Forever is my personal favorite. i'm not going to argue its greatness, i just personally love it to no end.
  6. i was WCW-exclusive at this point in 1997 so had no idea who the Patriot was. but i randomly switched to Raw one night and was impressed by the Patriot. looking back now, he's pretty mediocre in the ring but he was getting pretty big reactions. so i vote "yes" to the Patriot.
  7. dc has done pretty much whatever it can to alienate much of their fan base. unless you're specifically a Batman fan only. he's pretty untouched, but his family has sure had their fair share of changes.
  8. didn't they try match-day weigh-ins in collegiate wrestling or something and found out that people were destroying their bodies and increasing their risk for injury? i thought i remembered this talking point a while back.
  9. this is the first ufc ppv event i haven't watched live since ufc 67. and i've got nothing else going on tonight. i'm just not interested. i hope that sends a message. although i'm sure it won't.
  10. i'm keeping an open mind to Multiversity, but #1 didn't hook me. i'm sure the series will read amazingly as a unit tho. very looking forward to how it plays out. haven't checked out Future's End, but i thought the zero issue was pretty damn good. which reminds me that i need to get catching up on Batman Eternal.
  11. i've never been a flair fan either. as a kid i saw the flair/funk i quit match and thought it was boring and didn't like it at all. then he feuded with Savage, which is insta-hate for me, then in the nWo era he was old and looked like shit more times than not. three strikes. but i will second the love for the LoD being amazing. my all-time favorite tag team.
  12. i was all set to vote Kick-Ass 2, but then i saw Timecop. i didn't know that was based on a comic book and it automatically gets my vote.
  13. i believe that would make him the first person to win a UFC title in their debut.
  14. Personally I though Machete was the best thing out of the bunch. . . . oh man, don't even get me started on Machete. i also love that movie more than anything else involved with Grindhouse. Hell, i even liked the Machete sequel, and if they make another one, say, Machete in Space, i'll go see that and likely love that one too.
  15. Phantom Menace deserves all the hate it gets. count me among those that hated the podrace. Ep. 2 i thought was OK at the time, but upon a marathon of all the movies a year or two ago found that i enjoyed it quite a bit. Ep. 3 is fantastic. i really liked it in theaters and i'd put it up against New Hope or Return of the Jedi anytime.
  16. had just rewatched Sin City last week in preparation for the new one. i wouldn't have thought it at the time, but i don't think i'd seen it since it was first released on video. absolutely LOVED it. went to the theater with a buddy to catch the 2nd. felt it was a ton of fun. not sure how it's doing critically, but it kinda bums me out to hear that it bombed big time. so much good stuff in these movies. my friend is so in love with them that he bought a TPB or 2 of the comics and can't stop talking about them. re: Grindhouse didn't catch them originally in theater as the local one was double charging on them (made you pay for 2 movies or something, i don't exactly remember) but watched them when they hit on-demand since they showed both, with the fake trailers. the fake trailers are by far my favorite thing about the whole presentation. i legit wish that all of those were real movies. Planet Terror was OK but i wasn't a huge fan. Death Proof is amazing and i love it so much.
  17. since we don't have a Mario Kart thread, i'm hijacking this one to say that i'm super psyched for the Mario Kart 8 DLC. i've got it preordered already. Went ahead and downloaded the Mercedes car pack also, since it's free.
  18. That would be a first for Nintendo using DLC in that way if true. Will believe it when I see it. and the Nintendo UK store just announced DLC for Mario Kart 8. first one involves Link from Legend of Zelda, among others, and also introduces new courses and vehicles.
  19. Or you could have gotten the strangest fucking thing ever when he "opened" for Black Sabbath last year. DJing. That's right. No band. None of his own songs. And not even djing in the sense of doing on the fly mash-ups. Or even doing a brilliant job of blending the end of one song to the next. Nope, just standing on stage, on a little platform, and playing random old metal songs and occasionally talking in between tracks, with nothing in particular to say. It was the weirdest (and most pointless) opening act I've ever seen, and so fucking disappointing, given that they FUCKING HAD ANDREW W.K. THERE AND HE COULD HAVE BEEN PLAYING MUSIC LIVE~! yeah i saw sabbath last year as well and was really thrown off by the Andrew WK opening set. i thought it was really dumb but would've been somewhat redeemed if he had played "party hard". no such luck.
  20. jim powers is my favorite WCW jobber. as a kid i was SURE he was gonna be huge. as an adult, i mark out the few times he wins. and good to know that the barely-mentioned, barely-an-angle goes someplace
  21. summer '97, on WCW Saturday Night, for like 3 weeks in a row, Joey Maggs comes out and watches a Bobby Eaton match. Eaton loses, of course, each time. it's now about 3 weeks later and it hasn't been brought up again. was this leading somewhere? i've been waiting for them to tag up at least or something, but nada.
  22. i loved the first HBK vs Taker 'Mania match. but i feel that if i'd go back and re-watch it i would hate it, so i haven't seen it since it happened. their sequel, and both with HHH, i found really lame and boring. going against the DVDVR grain, i'm a big HBK fan. i love all of his matches. his promos and schtick during '97 was horrible, but at the time i loved it. going back now and rewatching it, i can't stand it, but i'd rather watch him in the ring than pretty much anybody else. except the Rockers. they came along a bit before my time, and by the time i had discovered them i wasn't impressed. as someone else stated, my favorite promotion is/was WCW. the "Alliance" period of WWF is probably my favorite thing they've ever done. it was so refreshing for a number of reasons. Heyman was AMAZING on commentary with JR. fresh matchups every week. so many titles, yet each one still had its own identity and purpose. and most of all, my friends all hated on the whole angle, and i championed it by cheerleading for WCW. every week. every match. i relished every victory and mourned every loss. it was so engaging. if i made a top 20 list of my favorite wrestlers, i'd have a pretty large number of jobbers and low card guys on there.
  23. oh man, WCW Nitro. i still own it for the PS. i taped all of the wrestlers' intros (including the German Alex Wright AND spanish Eddie Guerrero). and i still remember the Macho Man's: "oooh yeah! watch the flying elbow drop off the top rope. not only pins people 1-2-3, but i hurt 'em real bad too!" and the Syxx one (would this be Syxx's only video game appearance?) said something along the lines of "whenever you feel froggy" which me and my friends used to use all the time because of how stupid it sounded. edit: nope. Syxx was also in WCW vs nWo: World Tour.
  24. early/mid '97, one of the mags had an "interview" with Sting. i was confused, because Sting hadn't talked in forever. after reading it, i was 100% sure the magazine had made the whole thing up, and considered writing to WCW to alert them to this.
  25. me neither. that is indeed awesome. i also always assumed it was his college football team's fight song. yep. i thought the movie was excellent, but by far my favorite part has been the soundtrack. after i left the movie, i immediately added all of the songs from it onto a playlist and have been listening to it tons lately. 10cc remains one of my favorite underappreciated bands.
