  1. Steamboat Willie is a particularly interesting example. Original prints of the short either had incorrect copyright information or none on them (can't remember off the top of my head all of the finer details). a few law schools have surmised that the short should legally ALREADY be part of the PD. Of course, nobody is stupid enough to challenge Disney to a court battle, especially since we're so close to that result happening anyway.
  2. i have just shy of 500 vinyl records. i was bought a super cheap console record player maybe 18-19 years ago and grabbed a few cheap vinyls from a garage sale. In the next few years, my collection really started from a base of my mom's, her sister's, and her brother's records. Then my (at the time) boss gave me all of his. That was probably ~200 between all of them. Almost entirely 70s and 80s rock. So i've continued that trend, piecing together a really fantastic collection that centers on classic rock. Although my wife will occasionally pick up a new one, we both prefer used. https://www.discogs.com/user/twiztor/collection?sort=artist&sort_order=asc feel free to critique. i read recently that 51% of vinyl buyers don't listen to them. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THEM?!? there's no better feeling than chilling in my basement, beer in hand, and spinning an old record. just a whole different set of vibes. and streaming? hell nah. my mp3 player is loaded with like 50,000 songs. why would i ever pay somebody else to play music for me, when i can select exactly what i want to hear? i've spent decades curating this digital collection, procuring music, and creating bomb ass playlists. ain't no way a Spotify or YouTube algorithm can top that.
  3. had the same feeling watching ECW. those WWE Network episodes just feel wrong. the tape needs to be just as gritty as the angles and action. hiding in plain sight. honestly, it might be genius. who is going to accuse a professional impersonator of being the real deal?
  4. the GL ring can change colors? doesn't that kind of negate the Rainbow Corps deal they have (had?) going on? also fair to note that there was not a Red Lantern in the actual Golden Age comics. This is a new character created for this "New Golden Age" history. i haven't read it, but it seems like a decent enough set up i guess.
  5. damn Smelly, you take a couple weeks off and then just start cranking these babies out. I remember watching Spring Stampede '98 at my neighbor's house. i don't even know why or how, as he wasn't a close friend and didn't follow wrestling, but we convinced him to order the PPV. i was hyped for Savage in a title match. i only remember the main and the US title match. The most important thing on TV that night, however, was South Park. It was the episode where they were going to reveal who Cartman's father was. (spoiler: it was his mother). i remember that leading to a lot of confusion in the house, which culminated in a big fight. Needless to say, we never watched wrestling there again. (let me take this moment to point out that i looked up said South Park episode, and it is said to have first aired April 22, 1998..... three days after the PPV. So i don't know how my timeline works out, but that is definitely how i remember it. Maybe a replay? Or maybe i'm just losing my mind). i remember the 4/20 (heh) Nitro for Savage losing the belt. I was sure he was done due to the knee injury, but somehow he holds on another 2 months (!) until the Great American Bash. GAB ended up being the last WCW PPV any of my friends bought, as we all fully switched to WWF. It's just a coincidence really- my small town cable finally got USA Network at this time, and we all unanimously wanted to watch Steve Austin and/or DX. I taped Nitro for a few weeks/months after that and would watch it after getting home from Raw, but my interest waned pretty quickly. i remember the Disciple because at one point he hit his Stunner ("the Apocalypse") but had just a completely dead face. I attributed that to him being a stone cold killer (no pun intended...honest!), but after seeing him do it dozens of other times and not having that same expression, i realize it must have just been boredom or disinterest. Still, there was a second there that i thought he was interesting. Better than i ever gave him credit for as Booty Man, or Zodiac, or any of his other WCW personas. never been a Goldberg fan. Had high hopes that Raven would finally see a push and some success after winning the US title. guess not. relegated back to his Flock midcard role. Interesting that both the Flock and the nWo are going through breakup angles at the same time. Well, interesting is probably the wrong word. Curious, i guess? Poor booking? probably.
  6. i have engaged in plenty of tape trading, and continue to fly the jolly roger in regards to many of the old shows that may or may not ever be re-released. It still takes me aback when i see complaints like what you're referring, because i think in 3 terms when it comes to quality: 1) really good. like brand new stuff. 720? 1080? 4K? i don't care. they're all the same to me. 2) watchable. basically anything and everything else. digital file ripped from a 4th gen VHS? good enough. a copy where somebody flipped channels and you get a few minutes of Friends instead of the middle of a Godfather match? i'm probably fine with that. 3) not worth my time. most of the 90s fancams would be a good example- if you can't hold a camera steady, i ain't got time for you.
  7. 14-16 year old you would have absolutely no idea what you're babbling about. but really, trying to explain anything after like 2012ish to teenage me would make me sound like an absolutely insane person. between politics, wrestling, music, comic book movies, and just life in general? i wouldn't even be able to fathom it.
  8. i didn't even know that series existed, but the Scooby episode of Batman: the Brave and the Bold was pretty great. Also the Batman/Scooby animated movie that came out a few years ago was enjoyable too. So if the series followed that vibe, i could see it being fun.
  9. Felipe dos Santos definitely lost that fight, but for a 23 y/o making his UFC debut he did fucking fantastic. that dude's a future champ.
  10. that Bryan Turner channel is a godsend for random ass matches/events that have never seen the light of day. also for TNA Xplosion eps from pre-Impact
  11. first time doing one of these! 12:15 (should be easy to beat for anybody that wants to try!)
  12. to the surprise of nobody, 39 year old Junior dos Santos vs. 46 year old Fabricio Werdum wasn't a great match. this match was filled with lots of tension (read: it was boring). a quick search didn't turn up a clean picture pic in spoiler tag, but Werdum's eyelid got cut open pretty bad. JDS by split decision.
  13. i'm just jealous of all of you that had "clubs" and "scenes" and got to "see live music". My first concert was at age 16, we had to drive an hour and a half to get to the venue, and it was an actual venue, not a bar or nightclub or whathaveyou. i had never even heard the term "straight edge" until Punk, and i only know maybe 1 or 2 people who have claimed that. Now that i'm self-reflecting, i can't think of a single adult in my adolescence that didn't drink (and most smoked as well). Probably not a surprise that alcohol is my drug of choice too. I don't think i even recognized not drinking as an option. Mind you, i'm not complaining. i drink responsibly for the most part now, although that certainly wasn't always the case.
  14. all of that is technically true, but none of it has actually been challenged in court, so it's still a thorny issue. i expect that between Disney's Mickie Mouse issues and Warner/DC's Superman issues (not to mention all of the comic characters that are directly behind- like Batman, the Human Torch, and Namor in 1939/2035), we may see some of this sorted out. Until then, it will be problematic to use those characters, if only because the big companies will sue you into oblivion, and likely either hold up the litigation in court until you're broke, or settle with you so- with you not using the character, and the courts not making the determination. i look forward to seeing how this shakes out, but it will take many years before we get real answers, and, speaking as a realist, i don't see it benefiting the public in the end.
  15. since sometime at the beginning of this year. i jumped back on the NWA train in June i think. the leadup to the Crockett Cup. i would say NWA Power is watchable and fairly enjoyable most weeks. But it is certainly a step down from the 2018-2020 run. And there's rarely anything super memorable or awesome. There are certain standouts (Kenzie Paige, Aron Stevens' managerial routine). I guess basically, if you keep your expectations low, you'll have a good time. Also worth nothing that their PPVs are solid-to-good.
  16. well, yes trademarks can protect a likeness. But there are limitations. When Superman/Clark Kent (and Lois Lane!) enters the public domain, DC would not be able to stop anybody from: 1) reprinting Action Comics #1, either in part or in whole 2) using the likeness of Superman in any venture they wanted Note that any elements added after AC1 would still be copyrighted [flying, "the man of tomorrow", "faster than a speeding bullet", the Daily Planet, etc.] They would not be able to call the comic book/movie/tv show/whatever "Superman", as that is still trademarked, but you could have the AC1 Superman front and center on your book. You could even call him Superman, just not the book/product that. it will be interesting to see what steps Warner Bros. takes to keep as much control as possible. i expect that a LOT of lawsuits will be springing up. of course, we're still 10 years from this even happening, so let's focus first on Mickey Mouse, who becomes PD on 1/1/24.
  17. OMG YES! it bothered the hell out of me that i couldn't correlate the new style entrances with a deep locked memory.
  18. NWA POWERRR! Episode 124: The New Era 9/5/23 @ Nashville, TN ("the NWA Arena", according to Joe Galli) Really good opening video package to start. [side note: this is uploaded separately to YouTube as well] Joe Galli and Danny Dealz are on commentary. No mention of Tim Storm, so i hope he's home recuperating. Women's TV Title: Taylor Rising vs. Max the Impaler (c) a methodical beat down by Max. it was OK. Natalia Markova makes the save for Taylor post-match. Immortals vs. Outrunners the power game of Kratos & Odinson leads them to dominate the early part of the match. the Outrunners finally succeed with some underhanded tactics to gain the advantage. I thought we might see some dissention in the Immortals (you know, since they just were opponents at NWA75), but they worked well together. The Outrunners are so much fun. It's good to see them getting some recent appearances with AEW as well. Brady Pierce vs. Rolando Freeman the Spectaculars EXPLODE~! but, in like the Moxley/Omega "Exploding Barbed Wire Death Match" kind of way. NWA World's Heavyweight Champion EC3 is at the podium dressed like a gladiator. He looks forward to the future. "the Overman Era has begun." He will take the title everywhere- in the water, in the streets, and on Mars! He issues a warning to Thom Latimer. pretty decent promo. The Fixers, LLC. vs. Southern 6 no Jay Bradley for unknown reasons. Wrecking Ball Legursky is joined by Matt Vine and some dude in a mask (who apparently is named "the Fixer"? that's odd.) Thrillbilly and Legursky face off power-for-power early on, and i want to see more of it. Everything else is fine but there's not much to it. NWA presents SAMHAIN! October 28th @ Cleveland, OH. "the most violent and deadly pay-per-view in NWA history", or so says the Sinister Minister. count me in.
  19. ok, i've been drinking since before i started watching All Out this afternoon. so forgive me any oversights. But i have some thoughts that aren't exclusive to AEW. 1) best strap match of all time? that Danielson/Starks match was wild and awesome and i'm here for it. potentially hyperbole and recency bias, but i would rank it right up there at least. different category from dog collar matches IMO. 2) there was a lot of AJPW moments. and there always has been with AEW, and i see nothing wrong with that. but (and seriously, forgive me for being unfamiliar) what if AEW leaned more heavily into lucha history? would it be potentially possible to see a bunch of old-timer lucha guys showing up? could they work memorable spots? would AEW ALL IN (MEXICO CITY) be a possibility? seriously, i have big thoughts on the "ALL IN" branding, i think a second straight year in the UK is a bad idea, and would like to see it used for big worldwide expansions. maybe every other year? but beside that, i think AEW could potentially benefit from leaning into lucha history as well as 'strong style' history. 2025 ALL IN (AUSTRALIA). 2027 ALL IN (ARENA MEXICO/MEXICO CITY). 2029 ALL IN (TOKYO DOME). and future shows wherever else. keep it for some huge new territory expansion. at least to begin with. i don't think it's a bad prediction that AEW All In UK 2023 will vastly outdraw the 2024 show. 3) i didn't watch the last ROH PPV. i don't watch the weekly show. but god damn, if they headline with Claudio/Kingston, i will 100% tune in. granted, i don't pay for wrestling, so it doesn't have any financial component for them, but MAKE IT HAPPEN! 4) i don't know if it was this thread or a different one, but someone mentioned BJ Whitmer as not a good dude. i'm currently watching 2004 ROH and he's right up there as a favorite on the roster. what does he do to ruin that rep? i probably don't want to know, but feel like i should anyway.
  20. look, if Edge comes in to AEW, i'm gonna need Gangrel to make an appearance so we get a Brood reunion. i don't know which trios match sounds the most interesting, but Brood/HoB would be pretty boss.
