  1. Nice card I am not sure if anyone uses Beckett anymore, it still exists but their values are always too high. Ebay is the best place to gauge real values, you can search for a card and then click the box on the bottom left that says "Sold listings" for what they actually sell for. A lot of cards these days come two ways: Retail and Hobby. The box that you got is Retail, Retail boxes are cheaper and are ideal for the casual collector (which your daughter would obviously count as) and are great since it allows people that want some cards to get some without spending $50+ on the box. The downside of Retail boxes is the chances of getting a card with notable value is really really slim. If you pull something that is serial /10 or less that will have value, but generally speaking the retail boxes have really low odds of pulling a valuable card. The Hobby version of 2016 Topps WWE sells for $54 a box and has two hits (usually autographs), just for comparison sake. If it helps any, relic cards notoriously have very little value across all sets, since it isn't nearly as special as an autograph. For example, I got a Dolph Ziggler /175 relic in a box of cards that sells for $200, and I am hoping to get $5 for it. I still have several in my own collection, I think they are fine cards but their re-sell value is minimal.
  2. I figure I am allowed to spam a thread I started, but the box of WWE Disputed I got today was very Diva-centric. Which is good since Diva cards sell well. It is a great design though. I have no idea what Becky's signature is. One nice thing about this set is most the autographs are on-card autographs, and not sticker autographs. I really don't like sticker autographs, it is unavoidable in most sets so I appreciate the sets that are on-card. It is just much nicer to look at.
  3. I just purchased a case of WWE Undisputed because I found it for a good price ($162 per box, retail is $200 a box), so I'll have a whole lot of cool looking wrestling cards very shortly. God I hope I get some good pulls.
  4. I have a love/hate relationship with the Topps Triple Threads set. On the one hand, they have some really nice triple autos, booklets (a personal favorite of mine, cards that open like a book and have up to six autographs/jerseys on them), and various low serial number combinations of everything. On the other hand, since every pack has at least one high end card, there are so many variations that getting a low serial card doesn't feel special. I mean I could pull a triple jersey autograph but it feels same old since so many packs had triple jersey autographs. It also hurts their value, from this set people only want the top players, just having a rookie jersey auto card doesn't make it worth something like it would in other sets where such cards are more rare. To show what I mean, here are most of the 'hits' from the three boxes I got this weekend: So everything is serial numbered, I got two cards as low as ten. The top three on the left side are what the 'base' jersey relic rookie cards look like but they came in various serial numbers. The Cristine Michael is the most valuable variant of the ones I pulled, but a shitty player (no offense to him). And I got no Bills cards (Spiller in a triple jersey with other players doesn't count). On top of that, the best card I got overall was a redemption so I have to pray that Topps still has some, its a base rookie of DeAndre Hopkins /50. So yea. But nice looking cards anyway.
  5. One problem (ha) with easily accessible Joshi is now I am about five events behind just from the last three weeks, plus I am tying to watch at least a few classic shows a week so I can catch up a bit on everything I missed out on. Plan on watching Sendai Girls' tonight. If you don't sure how/where to watch the Joshi just send me a DM.
  6. Nice of him to throw in the Summerslam plug at the end, he is still playing the game for now. I mean he is much older/wiser than last time when things got so contentious between him and WWE, he might have just mellowed a bit. Crazy seeing him looking so happy.
  7. With his win and desire to keep fighting, would UFC and WWE cooperate with a joint contract of sorts if he wanted to do both? Lesnar could be like Barnett, fights once a year it seems and does grappling on the side. I'm not sure if Brock wants to keep wrestling and if Vince was smart he'd release him if he requested it so it didn't become an issue like last time, but if he does want to do both part time I am not sure if either company would say no.
  8. Oh I completely agree with you. I think everyone (myself included) had images of Cain tagging Lesnar and Lesnar flailing without considering that at the time Cain was one of the best while Hunt tends to knock out people that either are also strikers, or didn't have powerful takedowns. In hindsight it is kinda like ohhhh and while I am not surprised, I wasn't confidence enough to put money on it.
  9. I think its also easy to forget since Hunt is so much fun to watch, that since he is a one trick pony he struggles against top talent. He has now won 3 of his last 8 fights so he may be fading after the quick start when returning to UFC. Brock did exactly what he had to do, take down Hunt and use his strength to keep him there, Hunt just looked too tentative so he never had much of a chance unless every round was like Round 2 which would have been awful to watch.
  10. But that same thing happens both ways, if a cop does something that could be wrong it starts at level 100 due to twitter/wanting to report fast and then goes down from there (if applicable). And any other news story, the last few shootings in general the media has gotten incorrect due to wanting to be the first to report and seemingly starting at the worst case scenario (remember how badly the Sandy Hook shooting was first reported, they even reported the wrong person as doing the shooting). That is more an issue with news/twitter in general, certainly applies in this case as well but its not a new issue. There really isn't any way that is ever going to better, twitter is what it is, hence why I tend to avoid it whenever I can and use it mostly just for wrestling chat. I generally don't believe any 'breaking' news story until at least 24 hours after it happened, we get a lot more clear of a picture then. In this case it does appear to be just one crazy "I hate white cops" person but not a collection or group, although I am sure they will find out more about his background over the next few days.
  11. Haha I was being facetious, I know it isn't possible/a good idea anyway. Although if I did re-do them I couldn't do any worse
  12. Like I said I hope it works out, I am always in favor of legal ways to support promotions which is not easy to do these days. But it is unusual for a promotion to completely change the model so soon after launching which would be a red flag in most situations that something didn't go according to plan, I just hope it didn't block out too many US fans that wanted to support Stardom as not everyone has a credit card that can be used (ie not a pre-paid card). I haven't tested mine yet but my CC works most the time buying stuff from Japan so I'm not worried about it on my end.
  13. Yea that is basically what they are doing. Another big thing recently that has exploded is guaranteed hits. The days of getting a box of cards and getting no autographs/relic cards is completely gone, any box that costs more than $25 is going to have at least one hit in it. The standard now is two hits her box for normal sets. But lower and lower serial autographs have been popular for a bit, which is nice since if money is tight you can afford the /299, but if you are a big fan of a certain wrestler/player then you can collect them all. For 2016 Leaf Wrestling I have the Liger autograph not serial numbered, /50, /25, /10, and /5. All are different colors so they look pretty on my shelf. I don't like card graders either, I never do it and never buy cards that are graded, its dumb. So we are on the same page there
  14. I was under the impression that points were good, so I'd like to re-do my picks please.
  15. UFC certainly isn't afraid to take risks, could see another fluky situation where a champion loses a non-title match to someone that normally is in a different weight class. Not that I am expecting that but Silva is a weird dude so I'm not writing him off.
  16. Other promotions may be even in an area or two, but combining all the factors is what I was looking at. No other promotion runs as often with consistently high attendances which I think is the best way to measure it, along with availability which I think are the two areas that Stardom has a significant leg-up. OZ has claimed over 500 just once all year so I don't think they can hold a candle to Stardom in terms of fans in attendance (although they do a fair number of sellouts so they book arenas smartly, no doubt helping profits). I love Sendai Girls' but they tend to have three or four big events a year and chill the rest of it (plus, the 'one match' on the last show had Stardom's biggest star in it). I would personally have Ice Ribbon at #2 since they run a lot of shows and can get a good attendance for their big shows. Oddly WAVE is probably my favorite promotion at the moment to watch since they have some of my personal favorite wrestlers but I could never make that argument for them since their attendances tend to be rather low for some reason. Obviously none of us have the actual financials for any promotions but since Stardom has had the most fans in attendance at their events this year if you add them up and has the most national/global exposure between having a subscription channel, TV deal, and having events in different countries, I feel comfortable with my opinion And that is coming from someone not overly amused with Stardom at the moment, I am totally burned out on them and will be taking a break for awhile to watch WAVE and whatever else pops up.
  17. I'm not really sure any other Joshi promotion could even make the claim, Stardom is the only Joshi promotion with a monthly Samurai TV slot (I know that isn't saying much but no other promotion has a regular airing), run Korakuen once a month or so at a solid 800 to 1K which is more than any other Joshi promotion, have weekly events, do Japanese tours (ie aren't just in Tokyo), have the most exclusive contracted wrestlers, have events in other countries, are really the only Joshi promotion that gets featured on the cover of Weekly Pro.... I wouldn't even consider it close. I have no idea which promotion I'd say is #2 since there are so many factors, but #1 is pretty clear as far as I can tell.
  18. I know that was the PR reason, he said it on Twitter too, but I don't really buy it. I mean I am sure that was a factor but there are other things to consider. First of all, they knew that when they signed up with youtube as it wasn't a new policy, and they went with it anyway. Also, they increased the price by 50%, which is a pretty big increase and if any other online subscription did that there would be tons of complaining (not saying it isn't worth $7.50, but it is still a big one time jump). And finally, the shift will lose them US customers so they must feel being global + price increase will lead to more profits. I say that because now they can't take Paypal and Youtube is very easy to use/people are comfortable with it. They also could have stayed on Youtube if they wanted to so they didn't lose any US customers if they had a big fan base, but their numbers likely weren't what they were hoping. Plus they annoyed people like me by yanking all the content immediately, thus not giving people their full month's worth depending on when they signed up. All that is to say, I don't think the youtube try went as they were hoping as four months is really quick to do a complete change in model. I hope it works out for them as I am all for easy access to Joshi, but it isn't a good sign if the largest promotion with the most revenue clearly had some issues with youtube.
  19. I still blame slow motion HD with cameras at every angle. If games from the 1970s and 1980s were shown as clearly as we watch football today we'd probably see all kinds of shit we don't agree with that was missed. Its a bang/bang play, there isn't always going to be a 100% correct answer that 100% of people agree with every time no matter how the rules are written. I am more concerned when the referees have time-clock issues or when one crew during a game calls PI radically inconsistency, not micro-second type calls like that. I mean sure if a call goes against the Bills like that I roll my eyes but they aren't the type of calls that get me up in a tizzy.
  20. I guess I don't worry too much about that, its not that simple. I think a lot of smaller promotions are on a tight budget and recording/editing etc. would cost extra money, its not a guaranteed method to make profit, even most US indies don't have youtube subs. Plus they'd have to hire at least one extra person to manage it/make it in English. As long as they are available in Japan I'll find a way to watch it. Word on the street was the reason Stardom changed their service off Youtube after just a few months is they weren't getting the subs/money to justify the cost, and if Stardom can't then REINA certainly can't.
  21. If she is just OK after like three matches then maybe she will be good down the road A little early to really form an opinion one way or the other I think, she just graduated from wrestling school (whatever that entails) in March.
  22. I had absolutely no idea where to put this, but since it is a bit of a passion of mine I wasn't sure if I was the only one since I can't recall it ever being talked about here. I do the somewhat difficult combination of re-selling cards while collecting cards at the same time. Kinda like a drug dealer that does drugs. Usually I'll buy a few boxes of higher end wrestling or football cards, keep my personal favorites, and then sell everything else to re-coup my cost (in theory). 75% of the time or so I am able to per shipment I get, unless the best card in the box is one I keep which makes re-selling the rest for a profit difficult (I pulled an Asuka autograph in 2016 WWE Topps, which of course I kept) or I just get a bad hit box. So a lot of cool cards come across my desk but most don't stay there I am not making this thread as a way to sell the cards but most will be on Ebay. Unless its a Buffalo Bills player (shut up), Asuka, Sting, Vader... or Shawn Michaels. Or Liger. All that was an introduction to me showing off 2016 Topps WWE Undisputed! I just got my box today. Every box costs between $190 and $200 (I got it during a pre-order so only paid $180), and each box has ten hits (six autographs, two autograph relics, and two relics). Plus low serial base cards. So the boxes are expensive but pack a punch, and to me this is the best looking design all year for wrestling cards so I tend to go all out. At first I thought my box was a bust, which happens. These were my early pulls (just spoilering for the size of the pictures): Getting two Strowman is just brutal, plus it wasted a low serial, and no one cares about Crews so an auto/relic was wasted (although it should still sell in the $20 range). The Itami is a base serial /10, so it should have some value, but no idea how much. Then in my 9th pack, and last pack with an autograph, I pulled this bad boy and the box was saved! That should sell in the $75 to $100 range, so making a profit on the box will be a non-issue. As for what I am keeping, I got a base /99 Asuka and a base /99 Sting, so those go on my personal shelf. So, anyone else collect sports or wrestling cards? As anyone that follows me on Twitter knows, I got about ten boxes of the 2016 Leaf Wrestling with some really rare autographs, and I famously sold a Blake Bortles card last fall for $250 which doesn't seem possible. Its a fun hobby as its like playing the lottery but with a much better chance of me 'winning' something, either a nice card for my collection or a nice card to sell for a profit.
  23. I'll a video up at some point if it helps but I am trying to find out all the wrestlers in the AJW "OG Battle Royal" on their 30th Anniversary Show (5/11/03). Everywhere I can find a match list doesn't list who is in the match. Any ideas, old school fans? When even Mike Lorefice doesn't have it listed I know I am going too far down the rabbit hole.
  24. Hey Joshi stuff is much easier to find these days. Now keeping up with all the wrestlers..... well I have a good memory Eita is an up and coming star in Dragon Gate, has a lot of buzz. Tomato is a long time wrestler in K-DOJO.
  25. I was just reading this thread from the beginning (don't worry, I won't hold anyone to an opinion they held three years ago) and at least Joshi shows are easy to see again which was a common complaint. I mean on DM right now there are events from late June for Ice Ribbon, JWP, Oz Academy, WAVE, and Gatoh Move (that isn't necessarily normal but with niconico airing shows so often they aren't hard to find online somewhere). Stardom is of course super easy to watch, and if WAVE ever figures out how to run their online subscription they will be too. I know a lot of people fell off of Joshi during their 'dark ages' but I hope some will consider poking around again now that it is so easy to watch.
