  1. In what may have been the worst MLS match in years Metro beat RSL 1-0 tonight. We got a goal in the 5th minute, and before the 50th RSL had TWO men sent off, leading to a spectacular display of incompetence in trying to score for Metro. Seriously the skill level displayed here was right out of the early days of the league, it was that bad. I am filled with dread about Sunday after this one.
  2. Last year Bradley Wright Phillips tied a league record for goals in a season. Tonight vs Vancouver he sets a new record: first player in league history to miss two penalties in the same game in a 2-1 loss. For worst home loss in team regular season history this ranks up there with any of them. And we are now level on wins and points with the blue team.
  3. Metro vs Cosmos on July 1st in USOC it is then! Game will be at RBA, whomever wins gets to play quarters and semis at home. So basically we have a golden path to the finals.
  4. Jesse vowed to take the USOC seriously, and he proved it by playing the strongest team he could Tuesday as Metro beat Atlanta 3-0. City played the Cosmos in front of a packed Shuhart Stadium (11,500), took a 2-0 lead, then gave up a goal in the 60th minute and the equalizer in the 90th to send the game into extra time. They got a penalty 10 minutes In but the guy who took it skied it and the game went to penalties, where the Cosmos won 4-3 to advance. Just an amazing game.
  5. They are moving to Ontario, California and the ECHL's Ontario Reign are moving to Manchester. With Elmira, Manchester, Reading and Glens Falls all in the E, I really wish someone with money would refurbish the Danbury Ice Arena so it could have the 4,000+ capacity needed for entry into the league. Danbury Trashers v2.0 would be the greatest thing ever, and hey Jimmy Galante is a free man so who knows?
  6. Just went into this subforum for the first time and saw this. I'd wondered why I hadn't seen him post in awhile, now I know why. RIP Justin, say hi to Rico, Tim Horton and the Knox Brothers for me.
  7. My favorite thing is ESPN hiring Screaming A specifically because he is a screaming idiot, then acting shocked and horrified when he behaves like one.
  8. I love it when a guy who is specifically hired because he is a screaming idiot behaves like one and everyone (particularly his employer) acts shocked and horrified.
  9. Whoever the coach who was bitching about play being stopped is a moron. Lightning is the one thing that everyone knows = play stops because it's fucking lightning.
  10. One of my favorite wrestling memories was an early ROH show which featured an unsanctioned street fight between Steve Corino and his barroom brawlers vs Homicide and Dusty Rhodes. The flyer for the show was the greatest thing, featuring a 70's picture of Dusty with the tagline saying that this would be "his most violent match ever". RIP Dusty.
  11. Anyone who doesn't vote Dalton Castle as best gimmick this year is a horrible human being.
  12. Saw the thing about man on women violence and I'm guessing NESN refused to air the new episode because they are airing the week old one now.
  13. Other than sadism was there really a need for stoppage time to be added? It's 10-0, I don't think goal difference is going to factor into who moves on/wins the group, just blow the whistle. And yes the ref did show mercy by not calling the blatant penalty.
  14. Attendance there was horrible, most nights there were under 3,000. People will not go to Prudential Center for whatever reason. Brooklyn would be the best option by far, and really the only viable one.
  15. Technically this isn't an NBA topic but I know of no other place to put it: went to the Liberty home opener and place was pretty full with lower bowl being at 95% capacity and crowd north of 9,000. Fun game with Libs beating Atlanta, but that's where the fun ends. Apparently there was a group outside protesting Slimebag Thomas being brought in to run/part own the team. The Liberty Twitter account tweeted the Garden's official statement on the matter, and it was so sickening and untrue that I could feel slime oozing from my phone. But here's the thing: him becoming part of ownership has to be approved by the league. He is very likely to be denied. At that point it expected that petulant little child James Dolan will get rid of the Liberty by either selling them or shut them down. Not being under the Garden umbrella would be a crushing blow because any new owner would have to pay insane rent to stay. The math would almost certainly not add up. At that point Brooklyn would be the only realistic option, but every other non NBA/NHL team has failed outside of the Liberty at MSG and its a question if they would draw in Brooklyn. Bottom line is that Thomas fucked up the Knicks and now it looks like he is going to fuck the WNBA in New York and it makes me sick.
  16. The Tomakaze was one of the coolest finishers ever, RIP.
  17. I'm partial to Celtic and I'm dissapointed Rangers didn't make it back. Motherwell doesn't exactly get the heart racing as an opponent, I miss the old firm derby. Also now I'm glad Lazio made CL so I can win a teaser bet next year on who the first club to have to play a home match behind closed doors due to racist/violent fan behavior is.
  18. So Septic pulled the old "We are guilty as hell so instead of trying to prove the charges aren't true use the ulterior motives cannard to distract people from the facts" tactic. Someone should ask him if FIFA plans to errect a monument to the 4,000 slave laborers who will die for the WC in Qatar.
  19. The sound you hear is NBC execs getting on their knees and thanking God Chicago won.
  20. Would anyone object to a public execution for this monster?
  21. Always nice to see Nazio lose.
  22. So now when does fat frank show up in the Bronx? Or Stevie G in LA? Anyone know if they have to wait until a certain date before they join their MLS sides? Yesterday saw the Cosmos defeat San Antonio 3-0. Also got a Pele bobblehead that looks nothing like Pele and free Nestle's Quick, so it was a good day. Today it's Metro playing Philly, so a nice chance to kick Nick Sackoshit's corpse.
  23. Oh well, can't fault Pegulia for swinging for the fences.
  24. If one of you could hook me up with one of the plush versions of that rabbit mascot it would be greatly appreciated. I'd also ask for a vinyl of the penalty song but at that point I'd be getting greedy :-)
  25. Insomniac alert: A League final between Melbourne Victory and Sydney FC is on FS2 tonight at 1AM. Also saw the NASL is putting a team in Hartford called Hartford City FC. If they play Brass Bonanza after every goal I wholeheartedly approve.
