  1. I just saw a Bob Backlund vs Iron Mike Sharpe squash on '93 Superstars. Sharpe challenged Backlund for the (W)WWF title somewhere in the early 80's. Can you think of other examples where a former World title match is later reduced to a tv squash? And let's flip the question while we're at it: Have you seen squashes where the participants later ended up wrestling for the World title? Aside from John Cena vs Brian Danielson?
  2. This is probably in jeopardy with Burch's injury, but knowing Regal, we may get Dunne as a substitute for the night. But seeing as though Lorcan just recently almost single-handedly beat Balor & Kross, he may actually take Regal up on the usual "you can defend the titles by yourself" offer, that Regal tends to give to heels when someone ends up injured.
  3. I don't know about Drew's homage to football fandom with that face paint, didn't look cool! He was probably referencing that Mel Gibson movie, you know The Passion of the Christ? Or was is it What Women Want? You know, since he's yelling about freedom and shit, it has to be What Women Want, right?
  4. Hey Vince, Tony Khan would totally pay for the rights to use this song for a theme if AEW would have had a show called "Stand and Deliver"! That makes him better than you!
  5. As a side note, think how cool a match between Hollywood Blonds and the Orient Express would have been in '93! Austin faced both members as singles in preparation for The Great Muta, when Blonds had already broken up, so it was missed opportunity by maybe 7-8 months.
  6. Beach Blast 1992, even the 2h edited down Turner Home Video version was one of the favorite tapes I have ever owned. The full version is indeed pretty ridiculous! Great value for one's money, and then some!
  7. I'm guessing it's more like they sent the blind refs looking and they couldn't come up with any evidence, so they said "yeah, he's clear!"
  8. Not only that, it seems like they couldn't exactly get along during the photo op, either! Sting is grimacing and Muta ain't exactly smiling or laughing either. They were supposed to pose, Muta was all like "the fuck we are", tried misting Sting (you can see a green tongue and mist residue on his hands), Sting ducked and put him in a rear chinlock. The director was screaming to the photographer "Are you getting this? Tell me you are getting this, Goddammit!"
  9. Yeah, and to think Santana had more than average title reigns during his tenure compared to plenty of other guys from that era WWF, aside from the main belt. I mean in this conversation Jake the Snake means fuck all, for example. Duggan means jack shit, Piper is at zero world singles titles as well. All icons of their era, but with so few world title reigns to go around, a lot less decorated, just as you said.
  10. Yeah, I have a feeling that it would be "surprisingly" recent PPV too, as in happened within the past 20-25 years or so.
  11. Well, that certainly came out of nowhere. I mean all those RKO's. Not that I would have expected to read of Barry O's passing either, which is very unfortunate and unexpected as well.
  12. The "on paper" super stacked card of Halloween Havoc 1998 got me thinking, what would be some of the most kayfabe stacked cards with most former-, current- and future (as of today) world champions on them? Maybe discounting things like Royal Rumbles, but cards (probably PPV level cards only) with singles, tags and multiperson matches? Anyone feeling like getting their spreadsheet on? Or give a suggestion based on a hunch, do your own research, I don't mind. I think the most interesting aspect is the future world champions part. Which cards have plenty of guys on the under card that would eventually reach a(n Apter mag level recognised) World title, on top of the main eventers and former main eventers of the time?
  13. On paper, only considering name value and marquee matches this sounds off the charts. Steiners going at it, Jericho-Raven, Hall-Nash, Sting-Hart, Goldberg-DDP and Hogan-Warrior. That's nuts, even if half of them weren't good.
  14. As a certified carnivore (or an omnivore, anyway) I still have to maintain that your classification is the only logical one there is.
  15. The new title of this thread, tho! I'm lucky I wasn't drinking anything when reading that! Holy shit, good work!
  16. That's what I said. He was well on his way to under 205 when the angle started. Anyway, the ref in that match should be fired though, obviously his vision is better than the job requirements dictate. He saw Devlin's foot outside the ropes at the three count. They shouldn't be able to see that!
  17. Completely plausable, but that would have been a rather miserable way to end both companies. Now, what would have risen from the ashes, however, could have been interesting. But without the boom (initiated by NWO and) furthered by Austin's rise to the top the audience may never reached the level that would sustain national promotion if those two fall. Very intriguing, nonetheless.
  18. Yeah, I have to wonder if Scarlett's ominous "Everything Happens For a Reason" was code for "Vince insisted on this angle twist?"
  19. Good luck and even better motivation for you on this journey. I hope to read about your progress here on Fridays. If you have another routine on Friday's, you can use that to remember to write the updates. As in "It's Friday 17:30 PM, time for a coffee, sandwich and a status update on DVDVR's health thread." If your goal weight is 190, you can take your time getting there, because it's the maintenance part which is the tricky one. While losing the pounds try feeling out which excercises feel most natural to you and which ones you could see yourself doing without feeling like your soul dies each time you have to start. Finding those will improve your chances of sticking with it. And if Zach Dade is still around, he's going "Man, whatta fuuuuuu?" right now!
  20. Edge's first finisher was called (The) Downward Spiral. Not a huge NIN fan, but I think that's still a cool name. I guess the problem was just that he didn't spin with the opponent, so there was no spiral, it just went straight downward.
  21. Ok, better week than the previous one. Four workouts with a light-ish leg day today, so improvement in that sense. The weather has eased up on me a bit, but the roads aren't fully cleared up yet, so it's still quite a struggle. Now, it takes me the normal (from fall to spring) 45 minutes to get to work and another one to get back home. The training has been ok, 3 upperbody workouts and the leg day today. I did seated incline dumbell bench press on Tuesday. It's been a while. 3 sets of 12 with two 74 lb dumbells and it went well. I took Wednesday off and did regular bench on Thursday. Obviously, for the third upperbody workout for the week, I wasn't making any records but tried going as heavy as I could. 10×132, 5x220, 3x253, 1x264. Got only one clean with 275, but did two more ugly partials. Then 5 sets of 3x253, 3x242, 7x220 and 35x132 for a sick pump at the end. No deadlift this week, except for a few sets with the two kettlebells. Most other stuff was very mundane. Plenty of ab and core work at the end of each session, though. Weight is still around 185 lbs. One more week before my vacation (at home).
  22. Tie between Viagra-Driver and G-Spot Driller. ... ... ...What?
  23. Never seen it (them) either, but there was a story about them in an old WCW Magazine I had back in '94, so I've been fascinated by them for a good while. Need to finally give that one a go , when I have some time to watch wrestling again (this month has been terrible on that front so far).
