  1. Talmbout Birds w/ Mark Briscoe may be at the nexus of least predictable and most money wrestling multimedia side project.
  2. I just saw Kenny Omega's post G1 shirt, and I dig it. Just enough wacky engrish and a delightfully over the top puroresu design.
  3. I remember Velocity from like 2003-2005 being appointment viewing because that's where they'd shunt all the cruiserweights to for a time. Paul London especially was the MVP then with a bunch of really good matches with the likes of Jamie Noble, Nunzio, and Akio (Jimmy Yang), and of course the tag stuff with Kendrick. Also that's the period where you get those fun early Danielson cameos.
  4. Just watched the YLG3 main event while skipping the rest (if there's anything good in there, chime in!) and another crazy NJPW/NOAH brawl with a match occasionally poking through. I never thought I'd be excited about him ever again, but Shiozaki's eventual one on one with Shibata should be insane (assuming he isn't dead from Shibata keeping him in a sleeper for like a minute). Also, clearly Nagata and Nakajima aren't through with each other yet, which is a good thing for hot matches and a bad thing for blood vessels and soft tissue. And a scrappy and fun showing by Kiyomiya, who then had to die for NOAH's sins.
  5. The takeaway, as always: Bray Wyatt is going to be made to look like a chump, as always.
  6. WWE Shop has a $15 sale (effectively 40% off) on a ton of tees the next two days. Finally broke down and ordered that badass Asuka Tomorrow Brings Danger shirt for the NXT show in October.
  7. I was just poking around and saw a lot of the cards have been updated through the next month: http://www.njpw.co.jp/english/match/index.php From the NJPW World schedule, on the slate for this month so far is: 9/1 - Lion's Gate Project 3 9/12 - Road to DESTRUCTION (tour show) 9/17 - DESTRUCTION in TOKYO 9/22 - DESTRUCTION in HIROSHIMA (...) 9/25 - DESTRUCTION in KOBE
  8. Yeah, I can't bo-lieve that just yet. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry.
  9. Appreciate the heads up! Just ordered my ticket for Bel Air.
  10. Hey, it ain't even really my bag to begin with, but obligations and what not. Fortunately, a key person from the group seems like they can't do the 8th now, so I may be able to swing it without conflict. I had even been debating just shooting down to Richmond after work that Friday for that show since I'd already be in College Park (what's another two hours south and a three hour trip back?)
  11. Considering Raw has an extra hour, a little imbalance probably won't hurt.
  12. I believe it was 10am when I checked the other day.
  13. Wikipedia has a capacity of 2500-3400, so way smaller, though I don't know what the Royal Farms Arena ends up at exactly when configured for wrestling.
  14. Fuckkkkk I just realized I agreed to go to the Renaissance Faire with my girlfriend and all her friends that day like months ago, and that's down closer to my neck of the woods. Which means one long ass day of commuting or... I never imagined I might be forced to choose between a relationship and Shinsuke Nakamura, but here we are.
  15. Apparently the "Baltimore" show is at the APG Federal Credit Union Arena... ...which I'm like did they already rename the Baltimore Arena and why is APG all up in there... ...but it's apparently affiliated with Harford Community College. In goddamn Bel Air. That said I definitely want to go. My girlfriend is at least somewhat up that way so it's a good midpoint to crash at after.
  16. I debated if this was more wrestling or film related, and settled on it depending more on familiarity with the latter than the former: The whole Paige/ADR thing made me realize out of the blue that I could totally see Paige as the girl from Fish Tank, just swapping hip-hop dance with wrestling. So now I can't unimagine this and all it entails.
  17. The median age of this board has really been laid bare the last day or so...
  18. I think people would argue Joe is jockying for position somewhere up there (and if you can count, say, the Briscoes as a unit...), but that is something neat to think about. I do think Ricochet is really, really good, but also just the realization of how few of my "top guys" hail from the US now. (As always, I blame Canada.)
  19. Feeling on Goto I can't shake: Everything about his look and style makes me think he's the kind of guy the WWE would have brought in a decade ago as their token Japanese superstar: "Japan Man, a dangerous striker and vicious grappler from the Orient..." He's an alternate time line Kenzo Suzuki. Not a lot of his matches are coming to mind right now (probably due to sheer match fatigue more than anything), but vs Shibata was everything you'd want it to be, vs Nagata is a brutal young punk vs grizzled vet affair, and I seem to recall his match with Elgin being pretty good too.
  20. They started on the mat and Kenny ascended the turnbuckles, though. Personally thought it was a good enough big match spot, however - get yourself out of a desperate situation while taking advantage of your opponent's vulnerability. Goto increasingly bores the life out of me, but it was a very good to great match with both guys going all out. Kenny's been on fire lately and nothing changed there. Glad he got the W, and curious to see what's in store for him moving forward now. Shibata mauls Shiozaki as soon as he gets in the ring with him and then acts like a psycho in the post-match brawl. He busted himself open on the most disgusting sounding headbutt I've ever heard against Nakajima, who I'd be surprised if he wasn't concussed. Also he lays back into both Nakajima and Go during the aforementioned brawl, headbutting the latter a bunch of times while Go appears to legit try and fend him off anyway he can. It's really pretty fucked up. Wonder if Cody finally wised up and is revising his list now...
  21. Watching that match I had flashbacks to Marufuji's moonsault over the barricade onto KENTA in one of their big match epics and cracking his chin flush on the rail. Glad things worked out a bit better for Kenny (concrete landing zone aside).
  22. Got my Block B wish, at least, and that Block finale was amazing. I know history's against him (and I could totally see Goto being the proud native champion with his whole shtick), but I think Kenny right now has a good a shot as any gaijin could have to take the G1, especially given how all in on Japan he's been.
  23. Well, then. Cheering for Block B, I guess.
  24. http://www.cagesideseats.com/2016/8/11/12446994/triple-h-responds-50-50-booking-critics GUYS THE HUNTER IS INSIDE THE HOUSE tl;dr - if you don't like it go promote something better Also it's not about wins and losses it's about, like, feel, man. Like how Dolph Ziggler can lose to Baron Corbin over and over and over and still feel like a contender, y'know?
