  1. I read that as irrigation and was finally glad to hear my 5th grade Social Studies class was about to pay off.
  2. In more Risa Sera has a death wish news, she over rotated taking a double arm suplex (it looked she almost did a 450 splash) and badly drove her head into the mat thus getting a concussion a few days ago. She plans on being back in the ring by 3/3.
  3. Brandon Royval thought the fix was in so much that he forgot his first name is also Brandon.
  4. Coming out to "El Rey" in Mexico City is a mandatory, I guess.
  5. Prado's face looked rough at the end of the fight.
  6. Ryan Bader lost to a guy more than twice his size. Didn't see that one coming.
  7. It also comes down to competition. You can't just automatically say X won this many awards when some of those categories were probably thin as hell in terms of nominees. You're telling me every year that there has been an AL and NL Rookie of the Year or MVP of the Year, both sides were just equally divided with quality candidates? Fighter of the Year in boxing (and MMA, tbh) is basically "did you fight more than once a year and beat someone notable in multiple fights?". That's it. The criteria is minimum now. You put so little thought into it. It's still valuable don't get me wrong but the level of the prestige that distinction use to have is gone cause it's virtually automatically awarded every year to one or two people who barely qualify. When Nicki Minaj for a span of five or six years was winning Best Female Hip Hop Artist, my first question was, "Is she competing against kids...who the fuck else is in that category?". Missy Elliott ain't really putting out any new music. Lauryn Hill was still considered "crazy" and skipping out on her own concerts. Remy Ma was still in prison. Lil Kim was worried more about cosmetic surgery than releasing any music. Like one year you get like "Papers Planes" or Kreayshawn or somebody, but that's essentially filler. Now? There are more than a dozen or so really worthwhile female rappers including Nicki. So if she wins it today, that's more of a badge of honor than several years ago. You cannot blindly assume everything has equal weight.
  8. Or it's just like damn near every other major awards were two or three entities can dominate the major categories but another entity can win Best Picture or Album of the Year without winning more than one other notable category. That's why there is a controversy every year somewhere or how everything is fixed. Doesn't matter if everything is evenly divided in terms of recognition or not. That's how awards work in general.
  9. I am watching on ESPN+. It's amazing that PFL gets to advertise the rival streaming service DAZN while on ESPN+. That's the new normal, I guess.
  10. I know they were high on Jauregui as potentially the next Alexa Grasso, but then she kinda got steamrolled by Denise Gomes who herself just lost to Angela Hill. She needs this win to prove that she just got caught and that loss was fluky.

  13. Someone could do the Star 80 suitcase pimp thing but I mean what's the endgame other than being a dork? Cause you're not going to do something abuse related. That and folks wouldn't get it. As far as cult leaders, it got to a point with Callis where on three seperate occasions, they failed cause they didn't know how to integrate it into wrestling. It was like Russo or maybe Bruce were watching Dateline or 20/20 or whatever, making characters based off that. Hell, JR was even referencing those shows on TV covering cults in the wake of bunch of notable ones in the 1990s. It got to a point where they just said fuck it and outright called The Jackyl "The David Koresh of the WWF". It didn't work cause it's too on the nose plus he is going around and putting dots on girls foreheads in the crowd. You have to pick a lane. Is he just some weird dude or a manipulative psychopath? You got to pick one. He was doing that and then at the same time Taker and Bearer are trying to actually embalm a living person.
  14. The thing is though they weren't doing that when it was popular and then tried to bring it back. Plus, there is a certain fondness for nostalgia now. For example, when Pez Whatley turned on Jimmy Valiant in 1986, he was still talking like a black dude from 1974 using sucker and jive turkey. His promos should have came with a Bloodstone or Isley Brothers 8-track tape. However, I am pretty sure if I could remember that far back, my uncles were using that type of slang still cause you still get away it with somewhat. If some black dude in 1991 or 2001 tried that, that's instant fodder for ridicule.
  15. Maybe that is the best they could prep him? Having read the quote but not seen any video or heard any audio, it looks like he had an aneurysm in the middle or some ChatGPT bot came up with that.
  16. I was going to add this: Once you hitch your wagon to a certain style or attitude from a time period, you instantly date yourself. You don't come up with the Freebird concept and then not believe that five years from now you're instantly at dad rock status at age 30. It always kills me watching old territory stuff and then in SMW about ten or so years later, you still got guys who use "brother" incessantly including Cornette to be fair or some other crutch of how guys cut promos a decade earlier. There is some disconnect that you're also trying to a grab a younger audience. With the Freebirds, at some point, it was suppose to be cheesy cause Hayes being Fantasia could only be cheesy. You cannot go back, get a snapshot of a certain time, and then transport it to the future to make it cool again.
  17. I think it's tough for guys like Hayes and like Tommy Rich or anyone back then who got over at an extremely young age when most guys are 30 and over already. You're always going to be judged on when you're were a prodigy and not "people get old naturally and times change". This goes especially if you live a crazy party lifestyle. Now that said, Hayes in his later NWA/WCW run was really over still. Whenever they were running the old Georgia Championship Wrestling area or the surrounding territories, the Jimmy Garvin version of the Freebirds were always cheered even if they were heels. It was super corny, but it was still over.
  18. I think if Arn had to cross the aisle in 1995, he probably would have been better off than Hayes cause he had ALWAYS been that. Even through his brief stints in Georgia and Southeastern. He would have been the respectable veteran you can tuck away in the Million Dollar Corporation, especially since Ted was his mentor early in his career. Listening to Bruce and how he tells the story, they saw Michael and immediately wanted to change his look and name based on Vince's whims of Michael looking and acting outdated. And that was just so he can be in a non wrestling capacity.
  19. Yeah, I don't think Hayes fit what Vince was looking for at the time. Bad back or no bad back, Michael had a much better shot filling out the announce team than he did wrestling. It's unfortunate you get punished for not having a certain chemically enhanced physique but looking like you're in your mid 40s when you're actually in your mid 30s is a death sentence. He is the same age as Nash and younger than Scott Hall and Bret. However, once Vince or Bruce saw him doing his "rasslin" bits, it would have been an automatic no.
  20. Oh yeah, it's a bunch of guys who I am seeing on WCW syndicated TV and Saturday Night doing jobs. Plus guys like Sabaugh bringing his crew everywhere. Also, someone give Major Yates a Cagematch profile. Man has been jobbing his ass off in WWF forever by that point. Early 1995 seems like the first time since late 92/the first half of 1993 where they branch out from doing tapings outside the Northeast for an extended period of time. The sign of times for WWF business is Survivor Series 1994 where the show is in Texas and for the first time ever, they don't do tapings in or near the place where the PPV is. They did the PPV in San Antonio and then immediately went back to the Northeast or in close proximity. I can see it where after a dismal last half of 1994 or since these venues are booked in advanced expecting to completely drain the Northeast dry. How many times can you run the Mid-Hudson Civic Center, Westchester County Civic Center, the Lowell Auditorium, Stabler Arena, etc. when your business isn't hot? I mean it gets so bad that now they're doing tapings in high school gyms. To start off 1995, they show tapings in Florida after the Rumble, they do shows in Texas, and then Georgia. I mean the ticket sales suck, but you can tell in Vince's voice that he is happy to be somewhere where the few fans who are watching are appreciative. Now that said, I've been noticing that the last show of each taping cycle is deader than it usually is. And that's saying a lot cause even in the glory days, they had to crowd sweeten every show like that. However, at some point in 1994 when you get less stars or less over talent working these tapings, it feels like they believe themselves to being held hostage. In actual arenas, you can get away with that. Doing that with roughly 1500 people in smaller venues when ECW does way more with less, you can't hide there are mausoleums with livelier atmospheres.
  21. Hey, those kids don't know how to work. I dunno about being a heel, but she straddles the line of borderline crazy and pro wrestling crazy. Lets see: - A legit trained voice actress before pro wrestling. - Has a youtube gaming channel of herself playing Harry Potter games hours on end. - Hit Rina Yamashita with a huge wheel of light tubes to the point it didn't look real. We're talking some Industrial Lights and Magic CGI. - With the help of protege Suzu Suzuki, pranked her promotion's Youtube channel content curator/producer by standing in his apartment closet and then delivering the iciest thousand yard serial killer stare when he opened the closet door. Poor guy looked like he was about to go into cardiac arrest. That's going to be nightmare fuel for him for several years. - Reviewed her own action figure and tested it for authenticity by wearing her death match ring gear (the same attire the figure had) during the review. - Makes it a point in every match for her promotion Prominence to get color like she's Bobby Jaggers. - In addition, in several of those matches, lets men much larger than her beat the crap out of her for several minutes. - Was married to another wrestler named Orca, who in the time since cheated on her allegedly and is now divorced from her. I am thoroughly surprised he is still amongst the living and wasn't chopped into several pieces based on the closet prank. Now that I think about it, he might be in some landfill in Japan. Someone do a wellness check on Mr. Orca.
