  1. Most of today's best hip-hop artists would be mid-tier at the height of the old school.
  2. I can't remember a weirder football season than this, with all the injuries and surprise teams and widespread suckiness.
  3. The Martian was epic, beautiful, thrilling, funny, almost everything I wanted this movie to be. My two very minor quibbles are and But those are minor. I loved it. I cried a bit. I smiled a lot.
  4. I think he has a case of Dysentery of the O-Line
  5. Everything you just said. I am terrified they are going to fuck it up but the reviews make it sound great The trailers and the marketing seem pretty spot-on, so I have great faith. But I also may have unreasonable expectations.
  6. Seeing The Martian this weekend. Loved the book. Think Matt Damon is perfect for the role. Can't wait.
  7. I'm sucking across the board, ruined by underperforming RBs and QB injuries. Was already sort of losing interest in fantasy football, this might finish it (along with all those damn Draftkings and FanDuel ads).
  8. I honestly belive that they belive that Johnny Football isn't an NFL caliber quarterback. McCown, while overwhelmingly average has the ability to run an NFL offense, Johnny does not. They won 7 games last year with Brian Hoyer and Johnny Manziel. If they could get average play from McCown it isn't out of the question that they could improve. The problem is that average play from McCown will just leave you with McCown as a quarterback because they'll be too good to get a decent quarterback in the draft. The Browns biggest issue since coming back isn't that they've sucked, it is that they haven't sucked enough. They've always been good enough that they couldn't get the blue chip quarterback. They've always had to reach for the quarterback with all the red flags. The only QB picked ahead of Manziel was Blake Bortles, who was a reach at #3. Meanwhile, the Browns passed on Teddy Bridgewater, who went to the Vikings at #32, and Derek Carr, who went Raiders at #36. Interestingly, the Browns traded up 4 spots to get Manziel, who would still have been there at #26. The only reason they reached for Johnny, is because they reached for Weeden, who they only drafted, because they couldn't get Luck or RGIII, who they only needed because Colt McCoy didn't work out who was only on the team because Brady Quinn sucked...etc. My point is they're always reaching for quarterbacks because the can't miss prospects are always gone. The question that comes up for me is why weren't guys like Bridgewater and Carr better ranked prospects than Johnny Manziel? Bridgewater was the #1 prospect when the NCAA season ended, but somehow fell and kept falling for no apparent reason. He threw 31 TDs and 4 INTs his last year in college including 447 yards and 3 TDs in his last game. Somehow he went from consensus top 5 pick to no one wanting him. Picking a quarterback is like packing up all your shit to search for gold in the Yukon, sure it will pay off if you hit paydirt, but odds are you're just going to freeze your ass off and become a failure. Vincey, yes I've seen McCown play, but you act like benching Johnny, 2nd year in the league and already been to rehab, Manziel is a huge mistake. He isn't an NFL talent. If you are a coach who wants to continue to get paid millions of dollars, you don't start a quarterback who isn't NFL caliber. McCown is not anywhere close to good, but Johnny isn't anywhere close to average. I knew Johnny was gonna wash out,in part because I know that he has substance issues and comes from a life of entitlement and facilitation. He was an athletic freak in a perfect system for him, helped out by a line with 3 future NFL 1st rounders and a freak WR (Mike Evans). That's why he dropped to begin with. Bridgewater wasn't a prototype pro-style QB (like Bortles) or a newer generation dual-threat, but he was a prolific passer and a solid talent. As a Longhorns fan, I could tell you that you had a steal in McCoy and should have held on to him while actually giving him some help on offense, but I do think his long-term NFL trajectory is dependable career back-up. There was no need to reach for Weeden or Manziel.

  10. No worries, I trash locals all the time! The cream rarely rises to the top in Austin, and that song is pretty bland generic pop. Now he does more bland, generic Americana singer-songwriter stuff.
  11. Ironically, you can probably go out to Saxon Pub or a similar place in Austin any given week and hear him do it live.
  12. So Tampa Bay looks like flaming dogshit against Tennessee, end up beating the Saints (who I know are shitty now, but...). Meanwhile, Tennessee loses to the f'ng Browns. Of course, my "anyone vs the Raiders" plan would also have lost.
  13. Tell me about it. I was busy running around the house celebrating when I heard that he whiffed the PAT. At least we have our QB.
  14. I was thinking that "whoever plays the Raiders" would be a smart pick, then I looked at their schedule for the next couple of weeks. Back to the drawing board.
  15. Not sure there is a single person that he hadn't pissed off. Supposedly the coaches wanted him gone for being so cheap and unhelpful. The big money donors walked into Fenves office basically holding the check for Patterson's buyout.
  16. They define most mediocre franchise in the NFL since their inception if you take their overall output. Yeah, I was willing to jump a bandwagon but not hitch my cart to a nag.
  17. Bengals fan as a kid, as mom's side is from Ohio and lived there from 77-82. Don't really care so much anymore. Moved to NYC in '82, became a big Giants fan, got to go to a ticker tape parade after their first SB victory. I still semi-keep up with them and root for them, partly cos I hate the Eagles and the Cowboys. Got into the Packers in the early 90s with the rise of Favre and the Lambeau Leap, learned more about the organization itself and became a big fan. That's who I keep up with. Beyond that, it's pretty much about my fantasy teams and following the careers of Longhorns in the NFL. I tried with the Texans, but just can't get into them.
  18. Longhorns demote their co-OCs Watson and Wickline (back to just QB coach and OL coach, respectively), elevate WR coach Jay Norvell to sole OC/playcaller. One likely result is elevation of RS freshman Jerrod Heard to starting QB. Let's see if we can actually score some points and get more than 100 yards of offense this week against Rice.
  19. The Pac-12 is basically large state universities and Stanford. Allegedly, the thing that held the Big 12 from inviting BYU a few years back is their refusal to play sports on Sundays, which can affect B-ball and non-revenue sports that travel (like baseball).
  20. I'm in, Cheap Pick. Waiting until the last ACL crumples before picking.
  21. Since UT is playing Notre Dame this weekend we've been talking about the hilarious history of overhyping and overrating of the Domers. People talked about Ron Pawlus (and Brady Quinn), and I brought up the original Pawlus, Rick Mirer. While certainly not a Leaf or Russell-level bust, he's gotta be in the discussion.
  22. There's still a lot of smoke and insistence that he was gonna bolt for Texas and $10mil/yr at the end of 2013 until Mack Brown and Bill Powers (UT President at the time) screwed it up. I don't know if it's true, but I'm so glad it didn't happen.
  23. According to this tweet, Greg Hardy now plans to appeal his suspension. Goodell done f'ed himself good.
  24. Lamar Miller is up there too. They so overvalue running backs, stuck in 2006.
