  1. Now am I am tempted to buy the game, just to see if they rewrote the Community Chest cards.
  2. I have definitely known a few gay SHIMMER/joshi fans. But I would say most of them are not, in my experience (of talking to them on forums).
  3. I think we have discussed before about current WWE (post 2001-ish?). I seem to recall that the concensus was that anymore, people buy the brand. It almost doesn't matter who headlines the shows because it's WWE that people watch -- not Edge, Cena, Punk, etc. I wonder if that topic is worth revisiting, perhaps in its own thread?
  4. Fans of SHIMMER are a subset of a subset of rasslin fans. They also can only see the shows live a few times a year, and so some of them save up and fly from all over the world. (especially the last few years, when Prazak started bringing in workers from Japan, England, and Australia. (Note: I just recently discovered that Paige used to be Brittani Knight, who wrestled a number of SHIMMER shows -- I have to say that the WWE makeover has been very; very good for her. But anyway. . .) My point is that these people are dedicated. I flew to Chicago in 2008 for the vol 19-20 tapings. (they're in the 60's now) I didn't find the crowd creepy, because I was one of them. Also looking back, I don't think those fans were any neckbeardier than the ones at the three PWG shows I attended that year. I haven't been obsessed with joshi or chick rasslin for years now. I might think differently about the crowd. Or maybe it's a different crowd now. But I doubt I would have an issue. The people I talked to there were nice enough folks, and it was a good time -- although taping 2 DVDs in one night made for a long show. Now, if you're talking about those creepy companies in Florida that, at least in 2008, booked the ladies for these almost softcore matches in empty rooms --and then sold the matches for around $10 a piece, then yes. That's a little bit scary. And aside from the fact that I know it supported some of my favorite ladies financially, I am ashamed to have bought a few of those. Thankfully, I have long since forgotten the name of the company. And when megaupload went down and took several hundred gigs of files I had archived, away went all my chick rasslin as well as all the other wrestling vids I had spent several years accumulating.
  5. Watching the Piper/Funk episode of the Roundtable yesterday. They're talking about Terry still working indies and the kids not trying to learn from him. Paraphrasing from memory: Dusty -- If I were on an indie card with Terry, I would be pulling him aside and picking his brain. Trying to learn everything I could. But they're too busy trying to think up their next flippy move. Hayes -- Flippy move? Ross -- What, like a hurricanrana? Dusty - Yeah, a hurricanrana. I never did one of those, to this day. They're just being crotchety old dudes complaining about the kids getting off their lawn. But it cracked me up. I love Dusty on these rountables. It also occurs to me that this episode may never get on the network, even though it was really good, because there's a bizarre vignette about them vaselining up their hands to shove something up the bare ass of a naked Flair they've talked into getting onto a table in all fours -- and a young Piper walks in, says hello, turns around, and walks out.
  6. Legit question: Suggest me a PPV or two to watch for his good work.
  7. Watched the Patriots ep of Legends. It was mostly a Sgt Slaughter episode, which I was okay with. Great stuff about his experience as the Iraq heel, especially the death threats. Interesting how easy it was to turn him face with just one promo against Shiek, which they showed. The crowd was obviously very ready to cheer for him.
  8. The douchiness comes through in the guy's "I'm above all this" tone. He has to fill up his overview with snark, lest someone think he actually likes wrestling. What he described sounds like a decent show, and the WWE is far from embarrassing most of the time these days. So why the douchey tone? He doesn't have to be a fanboy, but why go the other way except to make people think he's supercool.
  9. Good heavens, you were not kidding about Blake and Jarochita's tiny, tiny pants. You know it's really something when Sexy Star is the conservatively dressed one in a match. Valkyrie's boots and 2-toned hair rule. Mari sure has turned into her father -- all weeble-wobbly and round but still a total badass in the ring. Good stuff. Faby and Mari are always a treat.
  10. Opening tag Rhodes vs Americans was predictably excellent. I love the spot where Dustin runs over to tag out, and Cody can't do it because he's passed out on the floor. Who are the heels here, anyway? I assume it's Claudio/Swagger, but the crowd loves to chant their slogan. Titus vs Show -- forgettable but short. It does put over Show as a Monster, and Titus had a good dickish character moment when he started a sarcastic "Big Show" chant to mock the crowd. Divas match was awful. Good to see Layla back. She appears to have put on weight -- "thick Layla" was a common phrase I saw on Twitter during the show. Funkadactyls have a wicked sexy entrance, best trashy entrance since The Beautiful People. Heyman proves once again that he's a GOATC on the mic. But he's been giving this same speech two or three shows a week for a bit now, and it's getting tired.
  11. Has anyone GIF'd Heyman's face when he realizes Taker is behind him -- on last night's Main Event?
  12. I did not see any wrestling in 2013. But I voted for Dustin anyway because there is nothing Bryan could have done - not even Brie - that's as cool as the Dustin telling the story about how he and Terri bought his lingerie for Mania 12. And then calling Dusty to see who he thinks would win in a Dustin vs Cody match. Okay, doing Brie might trump those two things. But I don't care. Goldust is still way cooler.
  13. I do kind of like "cheesecake mode" though. And it kind of fits, as well.
  14. Dibiase just got a young newlywed couple thrown out of the honeymoon suite -- because he's a dick. Also, apparently he has "a standing reservation in every major hotel in the world".
  15. You're following the wrong industry, then. You might should stick with comics.
  16. I am very glad to hear that Sid's injury is not shown on camera. I have been avoiding watching those last three WCW pay-per-views over the years even though I hear they're actually pretty decent, because I didn't want to accidentally stumble across that event.
  17. Interesting choices. The Miz might be a very good comparison, moreso than my Kane suggestion. Especially if you're granting that Orndorff only had one really high profile run as a singles main eventer, in the Hogan feud. IIRC for Miz, he got about a year of buildup and a bit of time with the belt (unlike Paul O, though that's not fair because WWE had to "top" belts). He got that high profile clusterfuck of a Mania main. And where is he now? More or less invisible. Razor certainly works in my book under "Guy who was pretty danged over but who I could care less about". I appreciate his talent and his look, but he doesn't do it for me. Just like Orndorff.
  18. Random: Orndorff has been publically bitter about his perceived place in Rasslin History. I am watching some 1984 WWF today. Orndorff is certainly good. He had a great physique, too. But I feel like he lacks a certain spark which would put him within the all-time greats. People like Hogan needed a guy like him to work off. But it doesn't mean Orndorff is at Hogan's level. It got me to thinking. Who would be in the same place today? Someone who was decent enough, who could work Main Event and Upper-Midcard matches adequately. But who just isn't quite there when it comes to calling him a superstar. Kane, maybe?
  19. Haha well-done, Kid. I am a little bit worried about this being a fight, though, which every kid in the neighborhood chose to watch and film. Maybe it was a work all along?
  20. Same here. Yesterday was my first time watching it. Trash TV. But before yesterday, I didn't care one bit about the Bellas beyond enjoying their hotness. Now I find myself interested in them. Did you catch the tours of DB's and Cena's houses? Cena asked if Brie would be happy in DB's shack while Nikki, without second doubt, told Brie to knock it down and sell the land. Haha, no! Is that season one? I am planning to go back and watch those eps starting sometime this week.
  21. I still fail to see what this whole 'yikes' thing is about. I admit that I've watched very little wrestling and no international wrestling, but all I was looking for was some explanation as to why this is a contender for the ”best” of the year. I don't think such a thing requires such a douchey response. Bucky's response may have been a bit strong, but your comment did come across a bit snarky. It'd be like going onto the SHIMMER forums and saying, "I've never seen any women's wrestling, but I can't fathom why anyone would care to see two penis-free people doing fake-fighting." On the topic of "best of year": Each year, DEAN has a thread where he posts internet-accessible matches that make him smile. In fact, it would probably be better served to be called, "2014 Internet Wrestling Matches From US Indies, Mexico, Japan, and Anywhere Else That Make Dean Mark Out and Go Pantsless". That title is too long, though, and who has time for all those words anyway? There are fat dudes throwing rasslin moves that need to be viewed, stat. It's just a bit of fun. I love this thread, though, because it's a reminder that we watch rasslin because we like it. Give some of the matches a chance, and you might like some of them. And if you don't? That's okay, too. Lots of other places on this forum to chat.
