damn man, 101 is ambitious. being done with 77 is impressive. i don't think i could average one a month, even if i wanted to. then again, if i read in my free time, it's comic books, so they're not really comparable.

I am also reading piles of comics. Hell most evenings you can find me and my lady sitting in the living room. Sometime on the tv while we are both reading a stack of comics. She is the one that got me back into comics after a few years of not reading them.

I like The Elementary Particles a lot, actually--it's the first Houellebecq I've read, and now I've read all of his stuff. That doesn't mean he's my favourite author, by any means, but he's an effective provocateur, and there's so much cynicism and irony in his work that I think it's hard to dismiss him as a misogynist (as some have).

I disagree with the (standard) claim that he's a nihilist. The Elementary Particles, and most of his books up until The Map and the Territory, is about how capitalism has colonized sex and the body to such an extent that love is increasingly impossible. Houellebecq is a moralist disguised as a misanthrope.

Books I Haven't Read: 'Notes of a Dirty Old Man' and 'Hollywood' by Charles Bukowski

I've also started to muse over an idea for a book - I've got a book swap at my work, and was thinking about doing reviews/research/musings based on picks from that. Still in its infancy, and similar to some other ideas out there, but it is the most interested I've been in an idea for a while.

Here is my review of the biggest release in recent history 'Go Set a Watchman' by Harper Lee

I also reviewed 'Platform' by Houellebecq yesterday, but the board was down when I went to post it.

A short story called 'Puzzle Pieces' about the fallout of a particularly difficult school trip.

First bit of creative writing I've added to the blog - good in places, a little ropey in others, but thought I'd throw it out there to see what people think. The story is being used in a competition on another forum.
