  1. I hope this fits in here. If not, move it to where it goes. So, I just got my 200+ Bones miniatures from the Reaper Miniatures Kickstarter last week. However, I no longer have any of my paints or anything, so, I am restarting from scratch. Anyboyd have any preference or suggestions for what paints I should be looking to pick up? Previously, I used Citadel paints, back when a set of 9 pots of paint ran you about $20. However, I see that isn't the case anymore. I've been looking at Reaper's line of paints, but they seem pretty pricey, especially for the quantity I would need to buy ($184 for 54 paints? yikes!). Anybody have an recommendations or preferences, or suggestions of cheaper paint alternatives? I want to use water-based paints, so Testors is right out. 8) Alos, any brand of brushes you prefer? I haven't painted figs in about 10 years.
  2. Ummmm...... how are they going to do another season? I thought last year was "the end". Joel McHale got his degree, ferchrissakes. How are they going to work out of THAT plot hole?
  3. She's used to this - she used to work at theScore. And they broke her in by pairing her with Mean Gene on WWE Classics Rewind (or whatever the hell that show is called).
  4. Just watched highlights and the finish from the Zayn/Cesaro match, and that was a rather epic finish. Why Cesaro isn't competing higher up the card is mind-boggling. Same with Zayn.... that tornado DDT through the ropes to the ramp.... wow.
  5. It is great fun to play, and super easy to pick up. Hopefully, they will add future updates.
  6. While it's interesting to see Montreal win when everybody has written them off with their prolific injuries, Montreal had NO BUSINESS still being in that game. When you throw THREE PICKS in the last two minutes of the game, HOW are you still down only 2 in the dying seconds? That loss was all on BC reading their press clippings this week.
  7. While stuck in a car for 40 hours going to and from GenCon, I read a couple of books... GONE GIRL by Gillian Flynn: I never in a MILLION YEARS would have read this book, but a friend said I should give it a whirl. It was actually a decent thriller, with a nifty twist. The story is like one massive head game. THE VISIBLE MAN by Chuck Klosterman: somehow, I missed this when it came out. I've read all of Klosterman's stuff. I liked this better than DOWNTOWN OWL, but I felt like it was only 3/4 of a book. An interesting enough read, but it just didn't feel..... complete. Looking forward to checking out his next book.
  8. I bought WAAAAY to much stuff in the auction room and consignment room, but that is neither here nor there. For new stuff, I bought... CARDS AGAINST HUMANITY: This game is sick, in every sense of the word. And, if you want, you can dlownload it for free, print it out and play it. GEEK OUT: this is like a cross between Beat the Geeks, Trivial Pursuit and name that tune. Roll a dice for your category. You end up with questions like, "Name four X-Men", or "Name 2 TV series starring William Shatner". Then, you bid against each other. "I can name 5 X-Men." "I can name SIX X-Men." When the bidding neds, you prove you know that many. If you do, you get a point. If you fail, you get -2 points. Great fun. ANDROID: NETRUNNER CREATION & CONTROL boxed exapnsion, and Opening Moves booster pack: I still have all my old Netrunner CCG cards, and am desperately trying to figure out how I can use them in the game. Pretty good reboot of a pretty good game. And I bought WAAAY too much X-Wing stuff.... 3 new B-Wings, 3 new TIE Bombers, the "Moldy Crow", and an Imperial shuttle. They announced CAPITAL SHIPS (!!!!) for next year, with models of the two rebel ships - the Blockade Runner, and the Rebel Transport. Here's to hoping for STAR DESTROYERS.
  9. I, too, was at GenCon. That auction room is SATAN. I have been playing D&D off and on for 35 years now. I have dabbled in numerous games over that time. Right now, I am just getting back into the swing of things, even if I don't really have a gaming group. Lately, I've been focusing more on B/X and BECMI D&D, although I've been on a tear to acquire a lot of the 2nd Ed AD&D splatbooks and supplements. I also have a sizable collection of West End Games' Star Wars stuff, everything produced for Unknown Armies, and a lot of Cyberpunk 2020 stuff from RTal. I also have a few of the OSR "retroclones", like Labyrinth Lord and OSRIC, as well as Mutant Future (kinda like OSR Gamma World retorclone) and the new Majus game from Pacesetter (Unknown Armies lite). And I have a TON of figs to paint from the Reaper BONES kickstarter.
  10. My favorite was the poll in the Winnipeg Sun this week: "Which number will be higher by the end of the season: Bomber wins, or number of people fired by the Bombers this year?" As of mid-week, 93% said number of people fired.
  11. Digging new Queens of the Stone Age. Disappointed by Earth Rocker by Clutch. Eager to hear more of the new Pearl Jam, and it might be my most anticipated new album. Listened to BE by Beady Eye (Liam Gallagher's post-Oasis outfit).... still sounds like he's trying too hard to be in Oasis. Maybe the rumours of them reuniting to celebrate the 20th anniversary of BE HERE NOW with some shows will come true. And as much as I hate hate HATE to say it, "Blurred Lines" by Robin Thicke will be song of the year. It's an earworm of the highest sort.
  12. I've seen Corb twice in the last year... once in Dauphin, once at Cfest. He puts on an awesome show, is charismatic, funny, and has a CRACK back-up group. Plus, having Hayes Carll come out and sing "Bible On The Dash" with him was a nice bonus. Dean, I think you would like Corb Lund. Kinda like a modern-day Waylon Jennings, or Merle Haggard. But Canadian. And funny.
  13. I have been holding off on buying any of the WWE games since Fire Pro Returns came out, but I feel the need. So.... should I snag WWE13 cheap now, or wait for WWE14 to come out, keeping in mind I don't do DLC, and would probably just be going on what's in the game. Right now, it comes down down to..... will the Wyatt Family be in WWE14 or not.
  14. I wouldn't mind the $15 upgrade either, but where I live, there is no high-speed, so I don't have Xbox Live, so I will be rebuying the $40 version if I want all the bells and whistles.
  15. As a guy who owns over 20 Godzilla movies on DVD, I loved this movie. However, I saw it in Imax 3d. Imax GOOD. Imax 3d BAAAAAAAD. unless you sit in the back row, the slightest angling of your head, and the picture becomes fuzzy. So basically, I had to sit ramrod striaght through the whole movie. But this movie in Imax is SPECTACULAR.
  16. Quick thought on THE WOLVERINE: anyone else notice at the end of the movie, that big box Yukio was carrying onto the plane with her? Looked about the right size to hold, oh, I dunno...... 6 severed adamantium claws? Yet, in the teaser in the credits.... Wolvie still had the bone claws. Wonder how they're going to fix that.....
  17. Watching coverage of the circus that is the Winnipeg Blue Bombers this week, the immediate question that came to mind was, just how many people can you throw under one bus at one time? To wit: - upon being demoted from starting QB to THIRD in the rotation, they interviewed Goltz, whose best comment was, "I'm still young, and have the best years of my life as quarterback ahead of me, so I'm not going to say anything that may jepoardize my career". Yikes. He was PISSED. - Buck's best quote: "I've never seen anything like this in pro sports". When you're starting to make the Oakland effing Raiders look like a paragon on sanity, you're in trouble. - on who made the decision to put Hall as #1 QB: Goltz:"I have no idea. Ask anybody around here... nobody seems to have an answer". Offensive co-ordinator Gary Crowton: "This was a decision we came to as a team and as a coaching staff...". Head coach Tim Burke: "This was a decision made completely, enthusiastically and whole-heartedly by the offensive co-ordinator and his staff". Yikes. The buck is getting passed so fast (yuk yuk... double entendre!), the friction is setting it on fire. The Bombers are in free fall, and we're only 8 games in. I'm putting my money on the U of M Bisons to be the first Manitoba team to get a win at the new stadium (which has a laundry list of complaints all its own).
  18. Ah, TEMPEST. I remember being on vacation in North Dakota once, and our hotel had a TEMPEST machine in it's arcade. Some enterprising soul figured out that they could open the cabinet where the spinner was mounted, reach inside and manually trip the credit counter. We played TEMPEST for free all weekend. People from the front desk kept coming in and wondering why there was a continual knot of kids around the machine, and about 50 credits on it at all times. 8)
  19. I just finished the main run-thru of BIOSHOCK INFINITE. Pretty good game, although the ending was seriously WTF. Before that, I had been working through ANGRY BIRDS TRILOGY on my 360. I finished everything, now I'm working through getting all the golden Eagles and finding all the eggs. Before that, I hammered through INJUSTICE. Played through it to finish it with Captain Whitebread and Teth-Adam. Played a few STAR Labs missions. Before that, I had finished the main mission on DRAGON AGE and was running the DLC. THink I might put in MASS EFFECT 2 next. When I get bored, I load up FALLOUT 3 or FALL-OUT: NEW VEGAS for shit and giggles. I've got almost every ending on NV... I just need to run it through saving Vegas for myself (done it for House, NCR and Caesar so far).
  20. K, seriously? FUCK Capcom. How many god damn version of the SAME DAMN GAME are they going to try and get me to buy? It's bad enough I had to buy this twice already, and buy two different versions of MvsC3.
  21. I'm leaving for GenCon tomorrow at 6pm. 18 hours in a van with 4 other dudes. Yay me. I have a couple of different board games groups going on. We've been playing stuff like Arkham Horror (with supplements, which means the game lasts FOREVER), Tsuro (great game), Dixit (AWESOME game..... kind of like a cross between Balderdash and Pictionary. I just bought the two expansions for the game as well), Alhambra (I bought the Big Box with all the expansions, but we've been playing the base game), Settlers of Cataan. I got into playing Munchkin at a con this year, and think it's great fun. I have also been playing X-Wing, and have gone CRAZY buying ships for it. I have a copy of the new Android: Netrunner card game, but haven't had a chance to play it yet. Same with Deluxe Illuminati. And I got hooked back on teh MTG like a junkie on meth.
  22. Anybody heard the new Crash Kings? I just found out they have a new album, even though I think it's already old. I kind of liked their debut, and wondered if it's worth chekcing out. Best new band I've heard lately - Green River Ordinance. Look for the song "Dancing Shoes".
  23. I went to Countryfest, a HUGE 4 day country music festival in Dauphin, Mb, Canada, for the first time this year. FIrst night was headlined by Shooter Jennings, Lukas Nelson and Justin Townes Earle. Earle and Nelson blew SHooter off the stage. I was REALLY impressed by Justin Townes Earle. Second night was Dierks Bentley and Kip Moore in the pouring rain. Dierks was REALLY good (he was the reason I bought the ticket), and Kip was suprisingly good. Third night was Florida Georgia Line (who I skipped) and Luke Bryan, who was surprisingly dull. Although the women LOVED him. Last day, I caught Corb Lund Band, and Carrie Underwood. Carrie was good, but her sounds sucked. COrb Lund, I cannot say enough good things about. If you ever get the chance to see him, DO SO. His last album, CABIN FEVER is spectacular.
