  1. I guess this actually opens up a larger conversation: One of the things that (I think universally, but if I'm wrong, someone smarten me up) is most complained about with WWE are the massive amounts of recaps and replays and that sort of thing. But on the flip side, you have a situation like this where you feel the context wasn't enough because it didn't happen on their TV (which, to be fair, hasn't yet debuted). Im not a BTE watcher myself, but I was able to sort of glean what the intent was just having seen what happened on the PPV. Now, I'm not saying anything negative about you for having not understood, but I do think it will be interesting to see how they strike this balance of "Here's an annoying amount of background" and "everyone watching knows who this is and what it means." I think the weekly TV can only improve upon that, but maybe it's too early to say. All of this is to say that, given that this was the first show, I think what you're saying is a fair criticism, but maybe also a little harsh. They're definitely going to learn as time goes on- they have to.
  2. Agreed, and after tonight I honestly think, hey maybe there's still time. Why the hell not. Maybe he and Cody will get the tags at some point, anyway. Such a great show i completely forgot to mention the tag matches and the women's matches. I'm so happy to see Trent and Chuck Taylor on such a big stage, I really became a fan of those guys through their interviews and obviously Evans and Angelico are phenomenal. Did Evans ever get a look from WWE or did he just prefer working in Mexico all that time?? One of my favorite parts of the 2nd tag match, and this might seem kind of weird, but, JR's genuine reactions to all the crazy shit they did. "I was a fan of the Assasins" then he gets hit with that badass match. I absolutely loved the Bucks doing the sharpshooters, and some of the call backs to old opponents of theirs. And I can't say enough about the Lucha Bros-- that's gotta be the hardest working team in the wrestling business today. And Awesome Kong!!! I hope she sticks around. Maybe they'll put her in there with Aja and let them clubber it out at some point. I am not really familiar with any of the other women but I thought they were pretty good matches. I preferred the trios match. My only criticisms are basically my criticisms about all multi-person matches I guess so really nothing groundbreaking to add.
  3. This was a show that very, very much catered to my tastes (including Bret Hart!!!!!) and I really, really enjoyed it. Moxley out of the crowd gave me flashbacks of Scott Hall coming out of the crowd on Nitro. Cody/Dustin was legitimately emotional. Every match was great. Jericho/Omega delivered big in my opinion, even if it didn't quite live up to the dome match with a couple messy spots. Not sure how I feel about the elbow but as someone who didn't see the lead up, I liked it as a new flash-finisher ala Bryan's flying knee when he beat Cena at SummerSlam that one year. Production needs tightening up some, but it wasn't major. A few missed camera shots, Excalibur coughing in the mic a couple times. But it's nitpicky shit. Loved the overall presentation, beautiful entrance ramp, beautiful world title belt. AEW seems like the real deal, I really gotta say. It helps having such a hot crowd, and if the atmosphere at the arenas are like that at TV I think it's gonna come across great and huge and very major league. Big thumbs up from me. I saw Naylor say on Twitter it was a GAB 96 level show and I'm hard pressed to disagree.
  4. I watched a house show w a rvd vs taz main in 2001 and they were more over than taker and Kane legit
  5. I heard zakk wylde wrote an Austin theme yhay was supposed yo be fucking unreal. I always wondrted if it was him playing on snitskys shit
  6. I mean they for sure gave it the college try w those sick ass devils advocate vignettes. They even went a step further when they discovered he couldn't do it live and put him w Piper. I was sad about that one I loved him in WCW. Mike Sanders should've been a star too I dont even care. I dint follow Mexico is jindrak still a guy
  7. If what folks are saying about the TV deal is true, then without rights fees, PPV and live events are going to be their bread and butter for a really long time, and I'm just really worried no one is gonna want to fork over $50 for AEW, when the more proven WWF is $10. For better or worse, the Network has changed peoples' expectations. I couldn't tell you the last WWE TV I watched but I still try to catch every PPV because I'm already paying for it, so they already got me. Even if the stuffing instead of potatoes is fucking abysmal right now,
  8. I don't want to go into it because I don't want to doxx myself or anything, but I worked for a company that did some work for Bruce, and he was nothing but nice the few times I met him. Of course, he mightve treated me well because I wasn't like my then-co-workers with the "I LOVE YOUUUU" and shit, but who knows.
  9. I understand the trepidation toward making this a WCW tribute act, but I wouldn't hate if they got some of that crew like Craig Leathers, Neal Pruitt etc. Regardless of how bad the show got, it always looked pretty visually top notch I think I posted this before, but I watched a Phil Mickelson/Tiger Woods one on one golf game with a few buddies on there, and it was the shits. So many people had issues it eventually turned into a "Woodstock is now a free concert!" situation
  10. Which is a FIRE album btw, I've had it on nonstop since last Friday I also had no idea Bryan ever used Down as ring music, so that's a fun thing to learn
  11. Kinda weird they mention "renewed competition" and even have a soundbyte from JR, but don't mention AEW specifically. At least Vince got one last Ted Turner jab in I guess.
  12. Ok so this post smartened me up as to what the actual words Yokozuna and Rikishi mean and holy shit how lazy even by 90s standards
  13. I remember seeing those MLW banner ads on 1wrestling way way back in the day reading Dave scherers daily lariat as a kid. It really is such a weird progression from weird-post-WCW-indie to podcasts to now what I understand is a pretty critically lauded show at times. Too bad no one from the XWF or WWA had that kind of foresight.
  14. 1) Starrcast tries to have a screening of the Bret/Magee match, WWE uses the idea 2) Charlie Ebersol tries to buy the XFL IP to start a new league, WWE uses the idea 3) Starrcast tries to screen Shawn/Hall ladder match with commentary from both, WWE uses the idea Quick, someone start a promotion with logical booking, a fresh format/presentation, great characters utilized to the best of their ability, and coherent angles, with no authority figures!
  15. I don't get to follow as much current Lucha as I like, but was surprised to learn Psicosis is still working after reading the news of him helping to save some other passengers in a real scary car wreck. Can anyone recommend some good, fairly recent Psicosis matches??
  16. That match and the GAB match (despite the finish) were so fun for me to go back and watch as a teenager after having grown up with them on Nitro (separately, for the most part) and then seeing them in The Magnificent 7 together at the very tail end of WCW. Flair ranting and going wild about Luger's body fat percentage Edited a word
  17. WWE in a nutshell actually, so it seems rather than apologize for the derailment, we actually unwittingly got shit back on track
  18. Of COURSE not. That would be madness. We're all human beings. I'm just saying the choice of language may have not been the best for someone under the scrutiny Lars is under because 1) it makes the perception of the situation look like he's learned nothing and is the same guy, and 2) it devalues his later apology in my opinion. I dislike any rush to judgment in these public fuckup scenarios that go on seemingly every day now, but again: the whole use of language like "snowflake" is indicative, to me personally, that he's probably, no definitely, learned and grown zero point zero. Purely my opinion. You make some fantastic points about things like redemption and forgiveness but in my heart of hearts, I don't know if they can really be applied here.
  19. I guess I see your point, but I mean dude in fairness it's kinda hard not to go there after everything else that was said yknow?
  20. There were a couple things this season that I honestly wanna go off about, but I'll stick to the GOT thread and not clutter it up here. Oh to bring it back to Wrestling, I was talking about being semi-close to Hartford CT for MITB, and I saw a local ad with Now whether that's about to happen or that was the original plan, I don't know. I think he or she is from the area anyway right?
  21. No joke, my quality of life has gone up so much now that the only non-NXT/205 WWE I watch are the PPVs. Though, that being said, MITB is an hour from my front door this year and I'll be skipping it to watch the Game of Thrones finale..
  22. Oh alright my bad dude I completely misread the tone of that post. I was at work at the time and in a bad mood already so I was probably being a little overly sensitive about shit (which, you know who hates that? That damn Lars Sullivan..)
  23. I'd feel the same way: fuck that guy. Edit: you know what? This kinda bothered me man. I wasn't gonna say anything, but what do you think, I'd be at a fucking Klan rally?
