ok, it's been like a month now and i still don't get the Kenny Omega/North Carolina thing. is it a reference to something? if they were on tour and changed it every week to be a play off the "cheap pop" bit i would understand.
-
this is the one that interests me the most. DOFP is one of my top 5 X-stories. seeing it regularly get rewritten or changed is a damn shame.
-
5ish years too late, but i'd be lying if i said i wasn't excited for this one. edit: this is about Carlos Condit vs. Matt Brown. the tweet's not showing up. i dunno if it got deleted or if i messed up the quoting because i'm drunk

is it odd if i hope that Nightwing gets cancelled and/or relaunched? as i've mentioned numerous times before, Dick Grayson is my #1 favorite comics character. I'm quite ready to quit buying monthly floppies, but the completionist in me won't let me stop mid-series. Nightwing is the last one i'm stuck on. if the horrible "Ric" storyline didn't get me to stop, nothing will.

Darby's half paint is the first time i remember seeing it. (well, besides Piper at Mania, lol) great presentation. Thunder Rosa's half paint is distinct enough that it shouldn't be an issue, but it is definitely odd that AEW has 3 people on tv using the same idea. i always thought Dustin should change up his paint style for different matches/feuds/appearances/whatever.

good summary that i agree with. i started following current Bat-books a couple years after this. as a big Dick Grayson fam, i hunted down these back issues to see Dick ascend to the Batman mantle. Was left underwhelmed. a serviceable story but really just filled a void instead of feeling important. a bit of a let down, even if i do still own the actual issues. i always liked how the "horns" on the cape looked. Agree that they don't particularly fit the character tho.

i always appreciate your countdowns, @The Natural. i look forward to reading all or most of these. but it will be quite a while for some, as i'm only on ASM #21 or so....

Batman: Three Jokers is a good read. i was skeptical about the concept, but i feel like they pulled it off pretty well.
-
i've always just used the "lose 2 decimal places" theory. 999 yen = $9.99. it's not exactly correct, but close enough for me.

i've gone that route a few times. i'm just concerned, since the iPod Classic has been discontinued for over 5 years already, that these will be failing faster and faster. Haven't looked into it for a while and just wanted to see what kind of other options were out there.
-
so, i had another iPod (classic/video) die on me. technically, the headphone jack is going bad. i know it can be replaced, and i've done it before, but not sure i wanna go that route. ideas on good quality high capacity mp3 players? i've got over 100GBs of music that i want to keep portable.
-
i dunno about him, but in general the "camo" look is embraced by a lot of people who are in to hunting, fishing, 4 wheeling, country music, and pickup trucks. it's not just a "redneck militia" thing. although that wouldn't surprise me either.

a couple who i always hated for their in-ring: Bradshaw Test both of those guys were instant interest losers for me. you knew the promo would suck, you knew the match would be shit, just complete wastes on the roster.

NWA (Current Version) Discussion
twiztor replied to Doghouse Reilly's topic in FEDS JUST TRYING TO MAKE A BUCK
trying to think of which featured talent is still (theoretically) signed with NWA. If you know of anybody else, please post up! Nick Aldis (NWA World's Champion) Wild Cards (Thom Latimer & Royce Isaacs) Kamille Tim Storm Eli Drake (Tag Team champion) Trevor Murdoch (National Champion) "The Pope" D'Angelo Dinero (TV champion) *worthwhile to note that James Storm, the other Tag champ, recently appeared on Impact and is reportedly out of his NWA contract Aron Stevens (i just learned that he is also booker for CWFH) Question Mark Allysin Kay (former women's champion) Melina (?) i heard rumors she was back with WWE but haven't heard anything confirming this if/when they come back to being a living promotion, they're going to have to find a bunch of new talent. tough spot, as i quite enjoyed NWA Power each week. They had come a long way with the limited roster they had. For a while, it was my favorite promotion. tough to see so much hard work just circle the drain like it has. in the pro wrestling world, this rates high on my list of 'things COVID has ruined' -
like many others, i'm a fan of the WCW C-shows. i've been watching some from '95 recently. Obviously 95% of the matches are gimmes, but, once in a great while, they put on one of the "Sharpe vs Jones" matches.... and i'm transfixed. holy shit. who's going to win between Bobby Starr and Eddie Jackie? I HAVE NO IDEA! i have GOT to see this one. i like to think there's some kind of "jobber hierarchy" and these guys are fighting to move up their own rankings.

Dolfan Watches Every Wrestlemania On Lockdown
twiztor replied to Dolfan in NYC's topic in The PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING
quoted for truth. Fandango is and always will be a nobody. Yes, the fans singing his name was a thing for like a month, (8 YEARS AGO!) and that's about it. i guess i've heard people talk about the Fashion Police (or whatever their name is/was?) but what are Fandango's top 5 matches? -
worst show? not counting the single solitary shitty indy that came around here, would be a WWE Raw-brand house show in 2003. My memory says that the faces won every match (except HHH, of course), but i don't know if that's completely accurate. Definitely just a by-the-numbers show. here's the results, according to TheHistoryOfWWE: WWE (Raw) @ Moline, IL - Mark of the Quad - March 14, 2003 Jeff Hardy pinned Christian with the Swanton at 11:27 Maven pinned Rico with a missile dropkick at 8:01 The Hurricane pinned Rodney Mack at 5:54 D-Von & Spike Dudley (sub. for Bubba Ray) defeated Chief Morley & WWE Raw Tag Team Champion Lance Storm in a tables match at 12:24 following a 3D on Storm through a table WWE Women’s Champion Victoria defeated Trish Stratus and Jazz at 4:42 by pinning Trish with a roll up and using the tights for leverage Rob Van Dam & Kane defeated Rosey & Jamal at 15:05 following the chokeslam / Five Star Frog Splash combo Goldust pinned Steven Richards with a powerslam at 5:07 World Heavyweight Champion Triple H pinned Booker T with a chair shot after the Pedigree ?? the Deadly Game tournament was fantastic booking! the matches were mostly solid. if that is among the worst shows you've been to, that's a hell of a resume.

THE 2020 WORLD SERIES - TAMPA BAY vs. LOS ANGELES
twiztor replied to Dolfan in NYC's topic in BASEBALL
good, hard fought win for the Dodgers. the Ray's lack of offense is what really doomed them. They won Game 4 due to TWO Dodger errors (in the same play!), had opportunities to win Game 5 but squandered them, and put up pretty much nothing in Game 6. They are a good young team with a great pitching staff, but you can't rely 100% on defense. You gotta get hits! -
that would indeed be a hell of a heel promo in front of the AEW faithful

i am just starting a giant Spider-Man read. I started with Amazing Fantasy #15 and have read the first 10 or so issues of Amazing. I plan on reading everything (Amazing, Web of, Peter Parker, Spectacular, etc.) up until November of 1998 when it looks like the entire line went through a relaunch or something. Over 1000 books so it should take me a couple years, but i previously did the same with Batman and X-Men and really enjoyed the result. Most looking forward to the Clone Saga (reputation aside....) and i plan to read the Superior storyline after i finish my plan as it is. @The NaturalAnything i should keep an eye out for, or things to keep in mind?

which of the UFC heavyweights of the time (we're talking 2000-2007ish when Pride went under) would have even been in the top 10? the only name is Randy Couture, who the argument could be made that he was a LHW fighting up. Frank Mir maybe but that's due as much to his injury as anything else. Fedor has wins over Heath Herring (when he was ranked #2 in Pride), Big Nog (2x), CroCop, Coleman (2x), Hunt, Randleman, Sylvia (in 2008), and Arlovski (in 2009). If you want to make the argument that Fedor can't be the GOAT because he fought too many cans, then i won't disagree with that. But to imply that there was some deep talent in UFC that Fedor was avoiding is just completely untrue.
-
my #1 GOAT is Jon Jones. He is the greatest fighter i have ever seen in my damn near 20 years of following this sport. Jones (28-0) and Khabib (29-0) are both undefeated since 2008. Jones is undefeated in the UFC since 2008 (fuck that Matt Hamill "loss"). Khabib is undefeated in the UFC since 2012. Jones has won 22 UFC bouts (counting both the Hamill and 2nd DC fights). Khabib has won 13. Jones has held some version of the LHW title since 2011 and amassed 11 official defenses. Khabib won the LW belt in 2018 and has 3 defenses. Jones has beaten 6 previous LHW champions. Khabib has beaten 2 former LW kings. numbers aside, Jones beat almost the entirety of the previous generation of LHWs ("cleaning up the remnants of PRIDE"). Then he beat everybody that was in his generation (including Gustafsson [2x], Cormier [3x], Glover, and future 2-division Bellator champ Ryan Bader). Now he's beating the "next" generation of LHWs (Reyes, as disputed as that was). Every single other division saw an outflux of fighters over the last few years of guys moving down in weight. You didn't see that with LHW, partly because Jones was so dominant and talented that even lower weight Heavyweights knew they didn't have a chance moving down. If you've cleared out your division, more than once, and you are so good that you are prohibitive in new fighters joining your weight class you're quite clearly at the top of the heap.
-
cheers, @The Natural. glad the ufc event aired at a reasonable time for you in the UK
-
crushed. Khabib has been a fave for quite a few years now. completely understandable in his situation, but man i just hate to see him go.
-
if Khabib wins tonight, i'm still hoping for a Khabib-Ferguson matchup. yes, a lot of the luster is gone after so many failed pairings and Tony's dismantling by Gaethje, but i'm still incredibly interested in seeing it unfold.
