  1. Just re-watched Wrestlemania V. No matter how many times I watch these shows, I always notice new things: Rockin' Robin with the most atrocious version of 'America the Beautiful' you will ever hear. Did somebody no-show? Why did this happen? During the Bushwhackers/Rougeaus match, when Raymond picks up Butch for a scoop slam, Butch clearly gives a couple of quick tugs on Raymond's junk. Not sure if that was a rib, but I can't imagine Raymond was too pleased. The ring apron banners are clearly the same Wrestlemania IV banners with the roman numeral 'one' removed. That's some nice cost-cutting. Sean Mooney is incredibly nervous when interviewing Donald Trump. Trump, sitting in the first row, shows absolutely no emotion for four hours. Nice job putting himself over. Douche.
  2. About the only thing I can take away from the first two episodes is that Tony Atlas seems like such a nice guy. His belly laugh cracks me up. Piper's right arm also looks like he's suffering from some muscle atrophy.
  3. Watching Wrestlemania IV: no surprise that Don Muraco's theme from Jesus Christ Superstar is edited out but was surprised to see that Slick's theme had been edited out when he comes out with Butch Reed. Anybody know why? I always thought that was a Jim Johnston theme.
  4. I don't get the entire "Flair crying is uncomfortable" argument. Isn't Ric notoriously emotional? I would be far more uncomfortable listening to somebody talk about their last match with their dead son in the first row if that person didn't get emotional.
  5. You know that says March 4th, not April 4th, right? That's the date which the guest list was received. The show was last night. CM Punk was there and snubbing everybody that came up to him like the dickbag that he is.
  6. CM Punk could have been at Wrestlemania XXX. Instead, he's checking out bands in the suburbs:
  7. In the past hour or so, whenever I try to watch something from the Vault, the live stream plays. Thousands of pissed off wrestling watchers should make Sunday really entertaining.
  8. The Texas Wrestling roundtable is certainly the best. Bill Watts comes off as being really friendly and intelligent. Flair seems incredibly insecure. The most important moment in wrestling was his debut, apparently. The most annoying thing about Flair is when prompted by JR to tell the story about Harley no-showing the first Starrcade, he refuses to. Now I'm left wondering, did Vince offer Race a truckload of money to jump to the WWF and take the belt off Backlund?
  9. By my count, all but two matches on Starrcade 85 have blood. And by blood, I mean giant fucking puddles of blood. Black Bart takes the cake, with Abdullah and Manny Fernandez a close second.
  10. Schiavone's call as Magnum jams the stake into Tully's forehead in their Starrcade '85 match gives me goosebumps. People tend to remember the late 90s WCW version of Schiavone, but when he actually cared about what he was doing, he was fantastic.
  11. More awesome Starrcade undercards, this time in '86: Nelson Royal/Tim Horner v. Don and Rocky Kernodle. There's an awesome sleeper hold/top rope sunset flip combo. Quick, really fun match that you need to watch. How's this for a random tag team: Baron Von Raschke and Hector Guerrero? (against the Barbarian and Shaska Whatley nonetheless)
  12. The Jimmy Valiant/Paul Jones tuxedo match from Starrcade 84 is so simple and so brilliant. I won't ruin it for anybody, but you should definitely check it out. As a matter of fact, the Starrcade 83 and 84 undercards are chock full of randomness including Mike Davis (of GWF fame) and Brian Adidas, before he let himself go.
  13. What if the Windhams don't get busted for counterfeiting? Do we get a Widow Maker/Hogan main event run? Windham/Hogan at Wrestlemania 6? Windham was super-over during his very brief WWF run...
  14. If you're watching/reviewing the original broadcasts, I think we would all love it if you added the soundtrack to each show. SNME always had some great music, especially over the closing credits.
  15. Dion Phaneuf needs to stop scoring goals for the Blackhawks because he plays for the Maple Leafs.
  16. I'm not joking here: did something happen to La Fiera? Is that even the same person? He looks like he gained 20-30 pounds since his last match on this set. I've been generally impressed with La Fiera, a guy I had never heard of before diving into this set.
  17. So is it a minor miracle that this match exists on tape in some (almost complete) form? Hard to see this falling out of my top five; currently I have it at number two on my ballot.
  18. Can't believe nobody has mentioned Randy Savage's "debut" in TNA: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C-aej2waJ9Y
  19. My only problem with a quick third fall is that it is a poor way to blow of a feud, and this seems like a feud. That said, this is a great match, just not on par with their first match. The end of the first fall is magic; a terrific rollup by Americo.
  20. My guess is Bhagwan Rajneesh had enough stroke in the state that they didn't want to take the chance of offending him. I'll ask on the Portland FB group. Is it fair to assume that this gimmick was in response to the entire Bhagwan Rajneesh saga? The dollar signs make perfect sense given the true outcome of the story. If you aren't familiar with Bhagwan Rajneesh, read this: http://www.oregonlive.com/rajneesh/index.ssf/2011/04/part_one_it_was_worse_than_we.html It's pretty fascinating stuff.
  21. I'm glad I'm not the only one that thought of Fujiwara while watching Cota. Arm work aside, their physical builds and mannerisms are so similar that I can see myself quickly becoming a Cota fan, as I did with Fujiwara on the 80s other Japan set. Really great match, and surprisingly clean work from Cota considering he's a heel. Last time we saw Cota, he was a face teaming up with Sangre Chicana. Was there a major angle/heel turn leading up to this match?
  22. I went into this match without reading any of the above posts and rated it very high. My initial reaction, five or so minutes into the match, was that this felt like a typical U.S. "television" match. After the first fall, I thought this would be a clean win for Atlantis. After the second fall, I still thought Atlantis winning would be the typical outcome. The third fall, and especially the work of Satanico, put this match over the top. The third fall was always a sure victory for Atlantis, until Satanico won the match. Absolutely surprised me. That might be because I'm "new" to Lucha. Atlantis is a name I recognize; it just didn't occur to me that he still would have been a rookie at the time. Even Satanico sucker punching Atlantis to follow the match surprised me to an extent. Now that I understand Atlantis was a rookie, this match takes on a completely new meaning. I refuse to lower it in my rankings though. A really great job of story telling by both wrestlers. Consider me a fan of Satanico, especially, after watching this.
  23. Pro wrestling needs more comically large hats. I can't think of a better way to get over as a heel.
