  1. Sasha looks like she's part of the Crooked Ninja Turtle gang.
  2. I think Nic Cage was in the mix for Scarecrow too. Stern seems weird now, but he was coming off of Private Parts being very well received. I would have loved Goldblum as Crane.
  3. Keaton went in for a costume fitting for Forever before WB basically dismissed Burton over the reaction to the darkness of Returns. At that point it was a similar premise, but Billy Dee would be Two-Face and Robin Williams would be Riddler. Rene Russo was going to be the love interest until they decided she was too old for Kilmer and replaced her with Nicole Kidman. I think Marlon Wayans was still the front runner for Robin at that time. The only discussion about Catwoman returning that I remember was a possible cameo in the abandoned follow-up to Batman & Robin that would have had Bruce seeing visions of the rogues gallery during a fear toxin attack from Scarecrow. The ending of Returns was a studio note that was tacked on after the film wrapped. That's not even Michelle Pffeiffer in the suit. WB definitely intended to leave the door open for a sequel since they shot themselves in the foot letting Joker die.
  4. Keaton had a take on Batman. It's not necessarily congruous with the way we think about the character all of the time, but it's a take. His Batman is kind of like an Elseworld's version of the character where Bruce is deeply neurotic and uses theatricality to compensate for not having the phenomenal natural athleticism one associates with Batman. Kilmer seems pretty lost as Bruce and just works within the framework Keaton built for Batman. Clooney didn't know why he was doing the movie other than WB said so, and he had no one creatively helping him out anywhere on the production. His Batman voice is indistinguishable from his Bruce voice, and he's given very little to do as either iteration of the character. There's not a lot of it that's his fault, but it doesn't seem like he cared either. Bale is very good in Begins, but his work in the other two films has been picked apart before and it's become very well established that the Bat voice gets increasingly ridiculous. He does give three distinguishable interesting performances as Batman, public Bruce, and private Bruce. Affleck was very uneven, but he also had to deal with a lot of creative decisions that weren't in his control and seemed to wear him down. Anyway, Adam West is a golden god.
  5. When the law of the land is enforced in an egalitarian manner, then the general public won't have to resort to public shaming tactics to exhort any kind of justice. So, basically never.
  6. Is that how she had it arranged in her house, or did the estate sale people have it that way? Because, Jesus Christ.
  7. The Gotti producers apparently bought the distribution rights back from Lionsgate because it wasn't getting a wide release. They do not strike me as bright people.
  8. The Overweight Lover
  9. I look forward to seeing the conclusion of the Singer story in a different thread. I wasn't aware he'd gone AWOL on other productions before.
  10. After watching the movie I came across an article with interviews about the doc with Andy's brother and sister. There's some discussion of something astral or otherworldly going on, but the sister's quote later on is very level headed and empathetic towards everyone involved. "Let’s say you love somebody and they die,” Carol says. "And then Hollywood came along and said, ‘We’re going to recreate your sister, mother, whatever it is.’ And you miss them so much, you so badly want to play along. And the person that was willing to do it wasn’t so bad—they were trying their hardest, so they had their heart in it.” Here's the full piece: https://www.google.com/amp/www.newsweek.com/andy-kaufman-jim-carrey-netflix-tony-clifton-713959%3famp=1 It is fair to be critical or skeptical of Carrey's version of events with the daughter, since there's no version of those events presented besides his, and he's not a reliable narrator.
  11. I didn't know notice any particular leering shots of Gadot. There's a little bit of forced sexual tension with Bruce, and Aquaman's lasso of truth comment, but aside from that they really frame Diana as a matriarchal figure more than anything else. Which isn't ideal either to be fair. I don't think the WW brand came out of the movie tarnished in any way, at any rate.
  12. I watched Jim and Andy tonight. I won't get into the heady existential stuff too much other then I largely agree with him, but it's much easier for someone worth Jim Carrey money to live in that headspace than the average person. I basically think he may be crazy, but that's incidental to his feelings on existence. Regarding the Lawler stuff, it would be very much in Andy's spirit to make a public spectacle the way Carrey did and secretly be working everyone with Jerry's involvement. I don't know if that's what happened, but it would make sense. As far as his telepathic connection with Andy or whatever, I don't know how much of that was him bullshitting or wishful thinking. What is very apparent in the movie is how real those cathartic moments with Andy's family are to them, and to maybe Carrey too. Regardless of what's happening there that was touching. I expected it to drag or become grating, but I still generally like Carrey and I found real poignancy in the movie even in the face of what is indeed an exercise in ponderous congratulatory self-indulgence. In summary, I liked it, but in a lot of ways it was tailored to my tastes, so I'm not going to necessarily recommend it for everyone.
  13. I'm pretty sure Carrey was supposed to do an angle at Mania in 99 to promote the movie where he fell too far into the character resulting in a match with Lawler. I'd be surprised if he was working Lawler if that was the case. Although I guess the match could've fallen through because Carrey really was being difficult. I think a reasonable guess is that a lot of that stuff was a guerilla marketing campaign that fell apart when Carrey and his people realized it may hurt his Oscar chances.
  14. I guess I'll spoiler it even though it's a house show, but a nice run-in at Starrcade.
  15. No gold jacket, but Dustin's looking pretty rad. I imagine the kids there are confused about why he's working in Nak's pants though.
  16. Wait, this just occurred to me: Are we supposed to presume that the Barry that uses the speedforce to contact Bruce in BvS was warning him about reanimated Pet Semetary Clark, and that he'd need Lois there to fix his psychotic break? So, that Barry came from a timeline where Clark broke Bruce's neck and distracted the League from Steppenwolf allowing Earth to fall? Did I just put more thought into this than they did?
  17. I saw JL tonight and enjoyed it. Shout out to the most heroic character in the movie, the Slavic father who kept his family safe from parademons for two days with only a Winchester rifle.
  18. Easy patch on Arrested Development. Gob: I'm sure Dad survived that kayaking accident. Ron Howard VO: He did not.
  19. A good start with any investigation would be publicly identifying the anonymous harassers on Capitol Hill that warranted the 15 million dollars worth of settlement payouts they've had to issue since 2000.
  20. Franken's gotta go. Meanwhile, The Old Vic launched an internal investigation into Kevin Spacey's time as creative director and has generated twenty complaints of harassment so far, with at least a handful reporting the incidents to the police. I remember when he took the job in London in 2004 there was a weird story about him reporting a young man to the police for stealing his cell phone. He ended up recanting parts of his initial police report because it didn't check out, and I remember it mostly because it was the first time I recall hearing any kind of untoward stories about him related to anything like this.
  21. *Extremely Bruce Willis Voice*: Welcome to the party, Gal. "HERE’S HOW GAL GADOT ACTUALLY RESPONDED WHEN HER FRIEND RAPED ME." http://www.imasurvivor.xyz/
  22. The review from Ebert's website actually makes me want to see it more than I have up until now. I'll take, "better than it had any right to be." https://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/justice-league-2017
  23. When I saw the drug charge story about Rose McGowan I was a little skeptical that it was a setup, but this story is so bizarre, and if Weinstein had private eyes and ex-Mossad working to destroy her credibility it's not a huge stretch. Regardless, I can't imagine the charges not being dropped. https://www.newyorker.com/news/news-desk/rose-mcgowan-speaks-out-about-her-arrest-on-drug-charges/amp
  24. I agree. Regardless of how JL is received, there won't be the grim pronouncements about the future of the franchise like there were after BvS opened.
  25. No Vic. Beth is mentioned pretty sparingly and mostly by Charlotte. I guess because she didn't participate. The animated sequence where he flashes the frat party and everyone turns away embarrassed and he sadly withdraws from the window was clearly their way of editorializing on his behavior. I wouldn't even begin to speculate on his private behavior with women, but the public nudity seemed less sexually aggressive and more, as Clint put it, pathetic and attention-starved.
