  1. They were around almost as long as he was, but it was more regional acts doing unauthorized ripoffs to take advantage of markets he didn’t commonly play. It definitely didn’t become a national phenomenon until after he died.
  2. I like that Fear Street trilogy format where it’s secretly just a miniseries, so if it’s going straight to a streaming service I’m in. It looks like Madeline Petsch is the lead, and she’s already genre royalty in my book just for her performance in Riverdale alone.
  3. Ellen Barkin is so great in The Big Easy and Sea of Love. It’s a shame she had the audacity to turn 40 in 1990s Hollywood.
  4. When Sting call it quits I hope he has one more singles match and gives it to Darby because Darby will die a thousand deaths making Sting look like a superhero.
  5. The ones I went to had a Dark taping at 7, Dynamite 8-10, then Tony came out to try to reenergize the crowd while they switched over the aprons and mat. Both shows I went to ended in gimmick matches that required extra cleanup, so Rampage started around 10:15; an hour or so of that minus whatever pretapes they don’t show. Both times we left during the sendoff with Tony and some of the talent coming back out, but if you stay for that you’re there for the same amount of time as the runtime of a PPV.
  6. I’m calling my shot, Riddle vs Punk at Bound for Glory 2024.
  7. That’s funny, my wife was just watching old episodes of Mob Wives on Paramount Plus and there was an absurdly funny long stream of bleeps during an argument, and I realized that it was still censored on streaming.
  8. I saw a GWAR tribute band at a backyard Halloween party once. The DIY costumes were incredible. I wish they’d spent as much time and effort into practicing their instruments.
  9. Angelico vs Eumura on Dark was one of my favorite matches of last year. I’ve missed that dude.
  10. When Heyman was in LA making Rollerball and supposedly trying to save ECW, the rumor was that he was pitching a syndicated series like Judge Judy or TMZ that would air daily in the afternoons. I mean, he was already secretly working for Vince, so who knows how far he even tried to get with it, but I’ve always been fascinated with the notion of that kind of format for a wrestling show.
  11. There were points when I was younger where I struggled every day to go to jobs I hated around people I despised, and I’m not ashamed to admit Punk’s work ethic and grit were something I aspired to, and it helped keep me going. To find out that he absolutely would’ve imploded doing my job for a single day is disappointing. It’s like how I’ve been lifting for eleven years because when I started I wanted to be in Tom Hardy as Bane shape. Then recently he admitted he just worked shoulders and dirty bulked, and he actually looked and felt like shit. There’s a moral about self determination and being your own hero, but I guess my biggest takeaway is I’m better than Punk and Tom Hardy?
  12. When Joe ducked out I figured Cole at least had a chair. There was also a camera angle where Cole was running up to Joe and they were in the same shot, and Joe looked like he was standing behind a streetlight pole.
  13. I had a friend who had a show at his house when his parents were out of town in a giant backyard shed. A freshman girl tried to mosh and got her teeth roundhoused out of her face. Her parents ended up making him pay for her dental work. To sort of bring it back to wrestling, years ago my wife’s friend got signed to this metalcore label and I had a bad feeling about it because they thought it was a good use of their money to hire Warrior to scream at one of their bands and make them run drills until they puked.
  14. Flair doesn’t get enough credit for being carny enough to convince territory era promoters that it was in their best interest to make him look rich.
  15. One thing I like conceptually about those movies is that they’re supposed to be anthropomorphic animal mutants and not just psychos in costumes. When they do the shared universe movie I think they should fight Psycho Goreman.
  16. I stopped going to shows after high school and didn’t miss it much. I was mostly there to pick up scene girls, which was a terrible strategy since they made up about five percent of the audience, were already there with guys twice their age, and scared the shit out of me.
  17. Yeah, the problem in the Northeast became when they drove all of the Nazis out of the scene they just found different people to beat up. In my area they beat a guy to death in a bar for wearing a Skynyrd shirt that had the confederate flag on it. Obviously no one should get murdered over a shirt, but even their premise for doing it was a stretch.
  18. I’m pretty sure at the time I believed E&C were brothers more than I believed it about Matt and Jeff. Especially with early Hardys, I thought they put a brunette and blonde kid together as a Veronica or Betty thing for teenage girls. And their real names being Hardy? Get outta here.
  19. When I was a teenager FSU had a stranglehold on the hardcore scene in my area. When you went to a show you never knew if it’d be peaceful or if 30-year-old straight edge dudes the size of barn doors would be walking around waiting for someone to look at them sideways so they could brain em’. A lot of the drinkers were emo kids immersed in nerd culture who wouldn’t hurt anybody.
  20. I was more excited about this when I was 20, Roth bums me out, and the Grindhouse trailer movies have been let downs, but sure I’ll watch it. Not a November goes by in my house when we don’t do the trailer guy voice going, “White meat, dark meat. All will be carved…on Thanksgiving.”
  21. Page may have some reservations about his bump card. Based on Cagematch, he’s only had two singles matches since the Texas Death match with Mox. Not that the tags he’s been in haven’t been physical, but he may be careful about how he’s used.
  22. Wow Rhys Ifans went and turned into Peter Stormare.
  23. I like Earth Girls Are Easy because even if I’m going to watch it a tenth of the times I’ll watch The Fly in my lifetime, it’s comforting to know there’s a goofy high concept rom com with Goldblum and Geena Davis as an emotional palate cleanser if need be. Also, Michael McKean RULES.
  24. Max got the crowd to boo the idea of him having to wrestle and defend his title. He’s at the height of his powers.
  25. Shorten Edge’s real name to Cope. You think you’re hard? Cope Harder He could rip-off Zybysko and say Welcome to Cope Land. Adam Cope, Bay Bay And so on.
