Tim Burton's Batman is really not very good at all. It was good for 1989 when I was 14 and there were no comic book movies to compare it to, but today it's just embarrassing. It was considered "more serious and dark" back then because we were stupid. Watch it today and you'll see it's one (very short) step up from Adam West.

SEPTEMBER ANIMATED GIF THREAD

I'm always bothered when Meltzer verbally fellates Doc, using this spot as proof of his strength. It's like Dave's such a mark for Doc or maybe for strength and fitness that he forgets it's a cooperative spot. Sure, Doc is strong, but Gordy is doing half the work there. I was actually there in person, not far from the ring, and I can tell you it looked phony as fuck, and really dumb from a "how is that supposed to hurt?" perspective. -
The Old School Questions thread

I flipped through his alleged autobiography a while back and he really came across like a mark for himself. An example: He suffered severe injuries and almost bled himself out legit punching through a limo window with his bare hand. You see, he turned down the safer method of breaking it with a lead pipe because "Goldberg wouldn't do that." I feel like he held grudges against anyone who didn't treat him like a megastar, an NFL legend and the baddest dude on the planet. -

I need more details on this. http://deadspin.com/that-awesome-trick-play-to-johnny-manziel-was-illegal-1637562400 You can debate what's worse: the OC who wrote the play not knowing it was illegal, or the refs officiating the game not knowing. The play was only called back because a running back didn't set properly, not because it was against the rules. Former ref Mike Carey knew, but he's an analyst for CBS now. So many trick plays in so many games yesterday. The curmudgeon in me feels like this will work itself out in a few weeks and we'll get back to real football.

Which television show had the worst kids?

There's a theory out there that the 7th Heaven writers actually created the show as a parody, a subversive commentary on pious, overly religious families. -

Ray Donovan's daughter, who looks like a cross between Gollum and a Pekingese, is right there with Dana Brody as the fucking dirt worst (as far as drama shows go). Her boyfriend was right up there but he redeemed himself by getting shot in the face. -

I'm late to the party but god damn, only Kyle Shanahan can have an illegal play in his playbook and not know it's an illegal play. And this man cashes paychecks as an offensive coordinator.

Oh christ, I wish I hadn't used up all my likes today.

Damn straight. I'll go one better and say Terminator 4 gets way more shit than it deserves and is a passable-to-good entry in the series. People were too wrapped up in T2 nostalgia to give it a chance. But god damn that movie had some excellent callbacks to earlier films in the series and if you didn't like the CG Young Arnold cameo you can fuck right off. Sam Worthington's coming and going Aussie accent is a little rough, though.

Wait what The Bridge has been great this season. The first few episodes were all over the place but it came into focus a few episodes ago and it's firing on all cylinders. The Bridge has been awesome this season! They can't cancel it! I forbid it! Sad Fausto just wants to go to a quincenera.

95% of them are going to be bootlegs that people bought on Baltimore street Fools. The good bootlegs are at Lexington Market by the light rail stop.

LOL they've been doing that forever. Fucking hilarious spot. It's better when the fans chant "holy shit" afterwards...or when it's no DQ and they use an actual rake. That Kyle/AJ match looks awesome. A battle of world champions, actually. Did PWG demand Kyle not job?

To me, there's just something untoward about advertising whose sole focus is dumb stereotypes of what "being a man" is about, doubly so considering what's going on right now. Beer companies, truck companies and dick pill companies all advertise during NFL games and all use the same type of lazy gender stereotype based advertising. As far as the message that goes to the audience's brain goes, there's a short walk from "you are a manly motherfucker with a Ford F-950 who builds things" to "you are a manly motherfucker and no bitch better mouth off to you."
-
AB is talking out both sides of its mouth. How can you come down on domestic violence when your advertising is mostly based on MANLY MOTHERFUCKERS BEING MANLY? Catering to and fostering an environment of hyper masculinity sure doesn't help. AB's advertising specifically caters to and fosters an image of guys who would say "I am a man motherfucker no bitch better step to me."

Yeah, I'll second Wizard & Glass. I would say it was the last great book in the series. I think the series went off the rails when King decided he had to hurry up and finish it. The first four books each had between 4 - 6 years between them. The last three came out in a two year span. That ending -- -- bugged the shit out of me because I started reading the series when I was like 14. I read the last book when I was 30. So I essentially had 16 years invested in this only to get a horrible finish. I'm surprised Roland's big lesson was "don't forget to drink your Ovaltine."

My booking philosophies are very very different from Disco's, but I do agree with him that typically, long matches are bad for ratings. There is plenty I don't agree with, which is why it's fun for me to chat with him. He comes from the Vince Russo school of booking. I come from the Pat Patterson school of booking. Since I bite my tongue a lot of the time, Disco may have no idea just how different my views are. A local promotion just hired me to start booking their shows and Ed is going to come to the show with me this weekend. I'm going to pick Ed's brain and see where our thoughts differ. Happy to see that there are several people on DVDVR that listen to the podcasts. I've stated it before on the show, but I'll say it again. My youth was consumed by RSPW and DVDVR and I try to proudly represent the wrestling trolls of the world. I know I haven't posted in a long time, but I never stopped reading and I love all of you guys. The Vince Russo School of Booking The Bernie Madoff School of Personal Finance MSL, can anything be done about Alice's presence on Cornette's show? I'd love to listen to him but she's beyond awful.

The Crimson King, Stephen King's ultimate big bad, the supreme evil behind all horrible events in so many books, the entity working to destroy reality as we know it and who just might have the power to do it... Who was erased, literally, from existence by a deux ex machina character introduced shortly before. I think I will live out the rest of my days butthurt over the horrible demises of Flagg and the King and the godawful ending of that series.

The whole show is going to be like your smug nerdy friend sitting next to you and elbowing you in the ribs, raising his eyebrows and saying, "see that person? Know who he's going to become? Huh? Huh?" They're apparently going to tease a different person bound to become The Joker in every episode. Sorry, but the Joker is a force of nature with no origin story (or at least, one that is multiple choice).
