  1. I can’t stand Cornette but I’m loooooling at the prospect of Cornette’s money mark senses tingling and then jumping into action to glom onto this goof. Or like Cornette was chilling at home, maybe planning a Wendy’s order or some cucking, when he suddenly froze like Obi Wan when he felt Alderaan blow up, like the presence of a money mark is a disturbance in the Carny Force.
  2. Thanks for the heads-up! I would have been pissed off at Sling on Sunday.
  3. I was at that show! Sorry, I can’t remember the finish, though. I do recall this was basketball shorts Punk. Also, Chavo injured his arm in a dark match, which led to the Eddy/Tajiri team.
  4. The worst is when a title changes in a first pin three way and the champion isn’t the one getting pinned. So your new champ has no legitimacy and your belt is devalued. Awesome!
  5. I showed my wife the trailer and she asked, “does something bad happen to them?” I had to tell her but maybe I shouldn’t have spoiled it.
  6. Happy holidays to all my internet guys, gals, and nonbinary pals! I’m off work from tomorrow until January 3rd and have started celebrating early. Love to all and hopes for a better 2024!
  7. I just saw this! Congrats to you and yours, my man. Having a child is the most challenging yet rewarding thing you’ll probably ever experience. Hang in there and take the bad with the good with the bad with the good. Best to all of you.
  8. General tournament pontificating: Man, this thing has been awesome. Great matches, fun storylines, and it's cool, toward the end, to figure out who's still alive and how. The only thing I would change, if they're set on keeping the "top two in the block wrestle in the semis" format is maybe don't talk about tiebreakers too early. Excalibur was going over a bunch of tiebreaker scenarios as early as last Wednesday (so we still had two rounds to go) and I felt like it muddied the whole thing. I think a week out from the final rounds is where tiebreaker talk has to start. Before that, just tell me who is still alive in the tournament, not why. Overall, though, I'm torn on the whole issue of top two in the semis. One, which I mentioned in the TV thread, is that it leaves the possibility of a guy running the table, yet being put in the position where he has to beat a guy he already beat once in order to get to the finals. That's unfair to the guy who already beat everybody and proved he's the best in the division. Also, we've now seen one block end in a three way tie. So we went five weeks just to eliminate half the field. On the other hand, only putting the guy who scores highest into the championship would kill off a bunch of stories and eliminate people earlier. I don't know. Maybe a bigger field and top two in the semis unless one guy goes undefeated? That's how this dork here used to do it in TNM.
  9. Same. I read Marvel comics as a kid in the 80s and Kang always struck me as a 2nd or 3rd tier villain. A guy in a goofy helmet, puffy shirt and sundress. I can't remember him doing shit in Secret Wars, for example.
  10. @John from Cincinnati I really liked that long post. Thanks! I actually don't like nostalgia, which is funny because I'm pushing 50 and have watched wrestling since 1985. I just feel like I want to see what's fun and current. To me, the old guys had their time and I really don't need to see the Seniors Tour where they're brought out for a pop or to maybe reel in people who don't typically watch AEW. I feel like AEW signing old acts is a combination of two things: 1) Hiring recognizable faces from yesteryear to bring in people who know Sting, Edge, Flair, etc. but don't really watch AEW 2) Tony's a fan and gets a kick out of having these guys around For me, there's a real sliding scale of whether I want to see a "legend" (usually guys who are best known for WWE but not exclusively), whether I'm ambivalent, or whether I actively don't want them on my TV. A big part of it is whether they're trying to do something cool and new, or are are at least being booked to their level. Indulge me here: Guys I'm good with: Chris Jericho: I really don't mind him at all. He's been with AEW from the start, which counts for something, and his programs are inoffensive if not slightly above average. Sting: Sporadic appearances. Fills a role very well and was never booked in AEW as a top guy. Bryan Danielson: He maybe shouldn't even be on this list. He's awesome and is working at such a high level. Ditto Moxley Dustin Rhodes: Just fine. Still a good worker. Fills a role and is at the level he should be at. Jeff Jarrett: see Dustin Guys I'm ambivalent about: Jake Hager: Shrug Christian: I'm really on the fence here. He's a good worker and I like his new gimmick. So he's at least doing something different. But I just don't really care. Paul Wight: I could do without him but he's not really working matches too much. Mark Henry: I have no idea what he does. I don't like him because of some past statements (he was always the guy WWE trotted out to defend them when a black wrestler was publicly expressing discontent), but I don't care that much. I wish they would go away: Billy Gunn: has ruined the Acclaimed's act and the trios belts lose value every day they have them The Hardys: I wouldn't miss them. Jeff is complaining about not being booked at a higher level, yet got popped for his 67,345th DUI just before they were to win the belts. Matt is boring. Adam Copeland: No desire to see him at all. Doesn't bring anything to the table. In the hottest run of his career, he was still like the #5 guy or even further down, a midcarder pretending to be a main eventer. I FFWD'd his match vs Christian. I just don't care. Saraya: I don't like her and she's not that good in the ring. Taking up space in a division full of better workers who are already getting limited TV time. Flair: No fucking way. Essentially, I want AEW to be more state of the art wrestling from guys who maybe haven't gotten a shot or vets who can still go and have something to prove. If you're an older guy who can't exactly contribute at a higher level, I'd rather see you as an attraction or a midcard supporting role who's not dragging the younger guys down.
  11. So Saturday's possibilities: 1) Andrade beats Eddie and gets to the semis, facing the winner of Claudio and Danielson (if Claudio wins, both he and Danielson have 9 points and Claudio's win here is the tiebreaker) OR 2) Eddie wins and has to watch Claudio/Danielson. In which case either a) Bryan wins and it's Bryan vs Eddie in the semis because Eddie owns tiebreakers over Claudio & Andrade) or b) Claudio wins and we have another three way to decide the semis. My bet is we get scenario 2a. There's been no booking around elevating Andrade to that kind of level, while they have been telling the story of Eddie coming back AND Danielson's "Eddie is a bum" thing. Eddie overcoming Danielson in the end, and maybe even regaining his belts to close out the story, would be awesome. I really don't see them booking both divisions to end on three way ties.
  12. I'm really glad they went with the three way because a) Mox running the table and then having to wrestle a guy he already beat to make it to the finals would have been unfair in kayfabe and b) they get to save the proper Mox/Swerve singles rematch for down the road after more build. I wish it would be an elimination three way but bookers love the crutch of a first-pin three way. Mox getting his knee destroyed, then not so much as a limp on the comeback, was something. Saturday should be awesome. I'll post about tournament possibilities in the other thread. Non-tournament, I'm looking forward to Cage vs Lee. I swore they must have met in PWG sometime. Googling it I remembered that this was the match where Cage won with the falcon arrow and broke Excalibur and Chuck Taylor.
  13. The long rope is great for lat pullovers! Highly recommended. Worst thing about the long rope? Having to untie it when some goober inevitably ties knots in both sides to “shorten” it for tricep extensions and such. My gym already has 4-5 standard shorter ropes for that. WTF. A trainer saw me untying them once and said, “yeah, people suck.”
  14. That plot point feels like a massive cop out.
  15. Yep, I'm guessing Marvel has been cold for so long that they're hoping established stars will draw now that the thrill of seeing superheroes has worn off. This is definitely a Val Kilmer as Batman vs Michael Keaton as Batman thing.
  16. Not sure you do that and have it not feel like pandering. Unless Swerve calls his shot and demands the match in February because this is his mission. Of course, then we need Prince Nana doing the entire Rocky 4 Apollo entrance.
  17. Sweet! I'll try that. EDIT: Tried it, was awesome. Five stars. I'm in the office today so I did a full upper body workout in the office gym. Decided to challenge myself and do a full hour of exercises with just the cable stacks.
  18. You phone me in the evening on hearsay And bought me caviar You took me to a restaurant off Broadway To tell me who you are Sorry, wrong "Rent."
  19. Random bitching, but the newest work acronym I hate is "POC." Mainly because I have to stop myself and really think about whether they mean: Point of contact Proof of concept Person of color I just keep hoping the rep from a company trying to demonstrate a product happens to be a black dude, for instance, so the POC for my POC is a POC.
  20. AW MAN I hate that shit. Waste a copay, your time, and a few days you could have been taking meds on "it's just a cold," then go back and they're like "whoops!"
  21. That's up there with Swerve using "Ain't Nobody" by Chaka Khan or the old days when Rich Swann used "All Night Long." I'm just a sucker for wrestling themes that don't feel like wrestling themes.
  22. I fully agree with this. Putting on my tinfoil hat, I wonder if Loki was rewritten to take this eventuality into account. It's wild contrasting the ending of Ant Man 3 with Kang's more watered down portrayal in Loki.
  23. Somehow Kang is suddenly very passionate about how 1 x 1 must equal 2.
