  1. I'll give him props for being a Lifetime Longhorn and that little chihuahua.
  2. My Longhorns get BYU at home, in what had been considered a chance for sweet, sweet payback for last year's massacre (which led to Manny Diaz's blessed firing and ultimately Mack Brown's demise). I don't see Charlie Strong and Vance Bedford's D letting Taysom Hill embarrass us again. But I don't see our offense putting more than 10 points on the board, maybe 17 if we're given a short field by the D twice instead of the one time I'm already counting on.
  3. I got to enjoy a dominating Longhorns defensive performance in person on Saturday. That was nice. The last couple of days have been pretty awful, though. David Ash really needs to hang them up, for his future. We also lost our most experienced O-lineman, which means on Saturday against BYU we're playing a new QB (true soph who was being discussed for a future position change) and new center (redshirt freshman who really could've used a full year at backup). Our biggest game-breaker threat is also still suspended.
  4. I keep forgetting about that show. September in Austin also has Merchandise/Lower and Earthless, off the top of my head.
  5. You must have missed the Sam Houston State-Eastern Washington game this past Saturday. It's possible your television refused to display the horrific red turf at EWU. UT at North Texas, our "easy" non-conference game, against a team that made a bowl last season. We have the QB and RB depth of a 6-man team from West Texas, and our #1 game-changer skill guy and our starting RT are suspended.
  6. This might be the best so far. I own everything but that Chaka Khan song on vinyl still.
  7. I meant to post this before, but seems more appropriate now:
  8. Seriously, save yourself a few hours and just skip Friday Night Lights season 2. It's absolutely dreadful and basically every single thing that happened that season is completely ignored for the remainder of the series. The only reason to watch it is to make jokes later while watching the good seasons.
  9. I see. Either way, I don't use Youtube at work so...
  10. Glad someone posted Sweet and Thin Lizzy since I can't be bothered to figure out how to embed videos. Throw on some Slade to go with the earlier Cheap Trick and I'll be set.
  11. I really loved this song back in the day. In the mid-90s, one of my role models/mentors/friends (who is a Texas punk and garage rock legend) told me about how they were actually this cool soul-inspired band. He mentioned that they refused to play along with a lot of the music industry games and rather than do interviews would purchase advertising space to write their own stories about themselves. Not long after, I stumbled across both the 12" single of "Come on Eileen" and the album at a thrift store, and purchased both. Definitely agree that they shoudn't be lumped in with the one-hit synth wonders.
  12. These are tacos: http://austin.eater.com/archives/2014/07/15/best-tacos-al-pastor-austin-rositas-al-pastor.php
  13. I FF'd through it to get to any parts where they might be together. Jumbo does the majority of the work. 7:57 - 8:29. Mil sells one move, Stan definitely gives him a little extra on a punch. There's not much to it, definitely not an ass-whooping. 10:07-10:18 minor bit outside the ring where Stan doesn't even acknowledge a forearm/punch in the back from Mil, then refuses to get pulled off the apron. 12:40-13:15 Interesting post-match exchange where it looks like Stan is seriously pissed and is yelling at Mil and Mil seems to be trying desperately to get away. But that may be skewed by what I've read on this thread.
  14. Whataburger has a honey butter chicken biscuit for breakfast that's really damn good, and they even started selling the honey butter in grocery stores.
  15. I remember he had the first or second really good Goldberg match (depending on whether we count the Regal potato/sandbag match).
  16. I started watching Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter last night. I stopped after 15 minutes and deleted it from my DVR. Last time I did anything like that was back in the day when I rented Batman and Robin.
  17. I am one who thinks that some people do get too easily offended and are looking for something to be outraged about. But it seems reasonable to me for Native Americans to express their wish not to be seen as mascots and offended by their use as such. Especially when you think of things like Chief Wahoo, people in redface, and shit like the Tomahawk Chop and chant.
  18. To some people, it's the only offensive part. To many others, the whole concept of a Native American mascot is offensive. Check out #NotYourMascot.
  19. It's interesting to get the perspective from people who love big festivals and festival bands.
  20. "Greetings to the New Brunette" I'll toss in a vote for "To Have and To Have Not". Titus Andronicus did an awesome cover of this last time I saw them.
  21. This US team seems more built for 2018, but I generally liked what I saw in the warm-up games. I think our goalkeepers are strong enough to make up a bit for our questionable backline, and the injuries to our Group opponents also help a bit. That said, we'll need at least 4 points to make it out of Group, and most have that possibility as beating Ghana, tying Portugal, not losing badly to Germany, and hoping that Germany beats the shit out of Ghana and Portugal (for goal differential). Is this realistic? I think so, but every point is going to be hard to come by and we could just as easily bow out 0-3.
  22. I was too old for Reading Rainbow (totally Sesame Street kid here) but I have a half-sister who is 17 years younger than me. One day back in the early 90s I was watching with her and they showed one of the "in-school" segments and I started thinking that the kids looked really really familiar. I realized that it was a bunch of kids who I went to school with in 6th-8th grade at a small private school in New York City, but back when they were in maybe 3rd grade. Watching the credits confirmed it. Anyway, as someone who hopes to someday have a sprog of my own, I'm psyched that it's coming back.
  23. Y'all just need to watch the Spurs commercials for HEB, the greatest grocery store in the world. ESPN blog with links to the seven best Spurs HEB commercials.
  24. Because I saw them back in 1992 at their height of their career and they were disappointing and somewhat lifeless. Honestly, both House of Pain and Ice T blew them away at that show.
  25. That's a fairly accurate description. (edited to add link to a Houston Press blog post that covers it, with links to Transmission Statement, and video) (edited to remove a Steregum link that won't work) He spent all day being a total diva dick, as you stated, possibly to hold out for more money although I've never heard Transmission directly state that. The famous story is that he said the weather was too cold and he wouldn't perform without french onion soup, so they had to send someone out to go find someplace that had it. This is fact, a friend of mine was the guy who got sent out and mentioned it on FB while it was happening. I would really, really, really love to talk to your friend about this. Oh my god, that must have been the most amazing conversation. "He wants WHAT?" Looks like he deleted the stuff from his timeline, dammit! He plays in Criaturas, so if you go see them you can ask. Of course, he was just the guy who got sent. The blog post has a copy of the original FB post by Transmission with the hilarious and sad timeline.
