  1. Fun stuff. I dug Lizmark's early spots. Hadn't really seen him in his younger days. Both teams did well enough. Nothing to complain about here. Nice match, but just kind of that: nice match.
  2. How the hell did the Kliq get to control the company when these scary motherfuckers were running together?
  3. Can we talk about the fact that Cota is wearing boots with the outline of his hand with the missing fingers on the side? That is amazing. Not quite as good as their last meeting, but still great stuff. Fist fall had a bunch of cool stuff. Second fall plays off last match with Cota going with what worked before. Third fall is what takes it down a bit. Nice finish and all, but just over way too quick.
  4. Cota works the arm like a mutha. Some really simple stuff that was still really cool. I loved his arm-wringer where he'd put his shoulder into the arm and drive Rocco to the mat. Great story here of Rocco being so tough that he won't quit even though his arm is being torn to shreds. He mounts a comeback and Cota sees and opening and capitalizes. I need to see the rematch to see how they compare, but this should be pretty high. Not much I can find wrong with this match.
  5. I agree with Graham's idea that this is a good intro to Lucha match. This really had a little bit of everything. Strong matwork, flying and brawling. I didn't like this as much as Soup, but thought it was a really great match still. After two discs, this will be pretty high.
  6. Didn't the Ax Bomber knock out Inoki like for real? I think that's why it was so over in Japan.
  7. That is amazing. Thank you. Is that... doing the voiceover?
  8. No love for Hard-Boiled Haggerty on that poster? That might be the best wrestling name I've ever heard.
  9. Ok, so that floating armdrag from behind thing that Santo does is fucking amazing. I had to rewind that like eight times to see how it even happened. There's something really cool about the way Hijo del Santo just moves. He just seems to float. I love luchadores who are really smooth like Atlantis and Santo are here. Everything they do just seems really effortless. Like all these complicated moves are just natural and second nature to them. And the rudos here do an amazing job taking their stuff. I have this third on this first disc. I love the display that the technicos put on here, but it just lacked a little conflict to really put it over the top for me.
  10. Ahhh. I'm glad it doesn't have anything to do with his "Big Richardson" if yaknowwaddahmean.
  11. Nice change of pace from what we've seen of Chicana so far. I loved the sequence leading up to Mendoza's dive in the first fall. Other than that, nothing really stuck out for me. It was a very nice technical match. I like the work they did just fine. The second fall was a little slow, but everything around it was real nice. Probably somewhere in the middle when it's all said and done.
  12. What's the deal with the "Richardson" thing and Sangre Chicana? I know his big punch is like the "Big Richardson" or something. Who is that in reference to?
  13. Holy crap! This was great! One of my favorite things in Lucha is when, after an early Rudo beatdown, the Technicos get their shit together and make their comeback. Crowd was hot for it in this one. Final fall has blood, fouls, mask ripping, people flying everywhere, it's great! Number 2 for me right now.
  14. Remember when we used to have a thread called "This is Pro Wrestling MOTHERFUCKERS"? We should've just posted a youtube of this and closed it. I love that there's not really a "wrestling hold" used until the third fall. It's just a fight up until then. The crowd reaction when Chicana finally breaks out his big left in the second fall is great. Nice job making that mean something. I love that the third fall just comes down to each guy trying to survive. They've spent the first two beating the hell out of each other, now someone's gotta get put away. Yep. This is number one for sure. There's going to have to be something really special to top this.
  15. Once I was past the novelty of seeing Kevin Von Erich in a lucha setting, this match was all about the rudos for me. I especially loved Herodes and his tubby-dude bumping. This was a good introductory trios as it has a fairly conventional structure for that type of match. These are the matches that are really tough to rank. Somewhere in the middle, I'm sure. I enjoyed watching it, but don't think it was all that memorable.
  16. I have a hard time calling any match on any of these sets "bad". I think they're all at least pretty good and worth watching. That's kinda where this one falls for me. Nothing offensive, but nothing that makes me say, "Wow!" either. I really dig matwork when it's done well. These two are both very good at it, and it's nice to watch. Like Nomad up there, I like these sort of "Let's have a nice wrestling match, now I'm starting to get a little pissed, FUCK YOU, IT'S ON!" matches. I'm more of a fan of the old hate-filled brawl, but I'm not going to penalize a match for not being what I want it to be. They went out there to work this type of match and did a nice job of it. Again, glad I watched this, but it won't be terribly high.
  17. Very disappointed in Don Corleone's mask. Couldn't we at least have an orange peel for the mouth or something? I agree with Graham that this had more of a 70's NWA feel to it. Both guys struggle for holds then move on to "bombs" (or at least bombs for the time, atomic drops, bodyslams, etc). I liked this match just fine, but it never really got to that next gear where I'd rank it really high.
  18. This match was really all about the fashion choices. The tasteful tassels on Centurion Negro's boots and wrists, Thesz's ref shit that wouldn't look out of place on Blondie's Clem Burke, and last (but not least) the AMAZING jacket Negro's second is wearing. I'll take one in every color! I liked this match quite a bit too. Really nice matwork to start. Guys jockey for position for the first fall. Second fall picks up a little with Hamada working in some slams and stuff. Then the final fall gets moving even more. Hamada gets knocked outside and Negro tope's him into a mud puddle like a dick. Then Hamada gets him back, and I'm all yelling at Centurion's second, "DON'T GET ANY OF THAT FUCKING MUD ON YOUR JACKET!" So, yeah. Good stuff. I like these kind of matches that escalate as they go. Not going to threaten for the top spot or anything, but this could be upper half.
  19. Fun match to kick things off. Really a nice showcase for all of Hamada and Sayama's cool offense. I love that the rudos' offense consisted mainly of punches and knees. Oh, and Perro's killer senton. I liked this just fine. Hard to tell where it'll end up this early, though.
  20. This is worked exactly like me vs. my daughter and my two nephews at any family function. Fun match. Probably bottom half, though.
  21. Thanks for posting those Starrcade matches, Kash. I was at that show and don't think I've seen them since then. That show was a lot of fun. There's a pic of Ultimo Dragon from that show in the instruction book for the Playstation version of WCW vs The World. You can see my friend and I very tiny in it. Fun fact.
  22. You could argue that anyone who does any job for anything other than the money is a mark.
