I don't feel like Carrie is necessarily unlikeable right now, but I do think that one of the many mistakes they've made so far this season was to start with Carrie in Meltdown Mode. It's an off-putting state for her to be in. I think it's better to build up to that over the course of the season, rather than drop the audience right into the middle of one of her episodes. It would also help if there was another character we liked who could anchor the show while she's in meltdown, but as I mentioned...Saul isn't Saul anymore and is being a major asshole to her, and Brody is nowhere to be found. There's just Quinn. And like I said, I want to like him, but the dude literally just became one of the "good" guys in the season finale, after being a vaguely sinister cat's paw for Estes until then, for reasons that didn't entirely make sense, and make less sense after the bombing. If anything, Quinn should be walking the Path of Rage right now, on a relentless search to track down Brody and finish the job he should have done at the cabin. Really, I feel like they just chose to start this season at the wrong point in time. Yes, it stands to reason that Congress would want to scapegoat the CIA for everything, but is that really a story anyone is interested in? Does anyone care about the CIA? We care about Carrie and Saul, but the agency itself? They're major assholes who violate our rights on a daily basis and kill innoncent children, etc. Not to mention, they've been grossly negligent and borderline incompetent throughout the Brody affair. Fuck them. Nobody cares. Move on. I mean, this season was so fucking simple to write. On one side, you put Dar Adal and Quinn on a mission to kill Brody, and on the other, you put Carrie on a mission to prove who really did it and save his life, with Saul caught somewhere in the middle. Duh. How hard is that to fuck up?

I feel like I should like Quinn. I want to like Quinn. He's the one person being decent to Carrie, after all. But it doesn't ring true, because his about-face on Carrie last season was completely out of the blue and not based on any aspect of their relationship that we saw on screen. One episode he just suddenly said, "She's the best! She's alright with me!" When in fact he probably had more reason to think otherwise based on the events of last season. If also doesn't help his case that in his big scene in the premier, he stupidly and wantonly fires blindly in a house he knows has a kid in it and, what do you know, kills a kid.

Did that show really only go off the air 7 years ago? It feels way older than that.

Okay, so I'm caught up now, and I never thought I'd say this, but....They need to bring back Brody ASAP. The first two episodes have been awful, and not even in the silly way season 2 was, where it could at least be goofy fun on occasion. It's just dreadful and boring and completely devoid of anything to care about. I mean, the Heisenberg-esque simultaneous takedown of 6 different targets on multiple continents was 1000% less suspenseful and thrilling than Carrie kicking that one guy in the nuts in "The Smile." It's like they've even forgotten how to do the 24-type stuff. Any ideas on when theyr'e gonig to reveal that someone replaced Saul with a Life Model Decoy? Because the guy behind the beard in the first two episodes was not the Saul I know from the first two seasons.

So I was watching the premier and thinking, "Oh, so their solution to the stupidity of season 2 was to become really boring."
  6. I know the "Kubrick faked the moon landing" theory is total BS, but I found it shockingly credible when it was explained here.Yeah, I actually saw that guy's film about his moon landing theory a while back, and though it's such obvious hokum, when you hear the guy explain it, it's fucking mesmerizing. You're like, yeah, I can buy that. It's crazy, but his stuff sounds WAY more credible than the people who think it's about the Holocaust or America's treatment of Native Americans, which are actually far more likely theories.
  7. Is this an okay place to talk about ROOM 237, that documentary about THE SHINING? Because I just watched that, and it blew my mind. The part where they get into showing the movie playing forwards and backwards at the same time with one superimposed over the other is one of the most insane things I've ever seen. I would give anything to be able to see the whole film presented that way. I mean, HOLY SHIT, the part where Jack's face is superimposed over the twins' murder and it looks like blood is coming out of his eyes??? WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT? Coincidence, I guess. Like the way Dark Side of the Moon works when played over THE WIZARD OF OZ. Sure. And I'm sure there are whole sections of the movie where the scenes don't line up as well. But this seems like more than a novelty to me. Some of the new shot compositions created are just too perfect and beautiful. It felt like I was watching something brand new. Yeah, seeing this would be my Halloween wish come true.
  8. Okay, so that didn't happen.
  9. Southern Miss is going to win today, guys. It has to happen.
  10. Too bad Hollinger isn't still around to rage about the outcome of that game.
  11. Well, it was $500 dollars, but it will be fine, if his story is holds up to scrutiny. He'll sit a few games and that will be that.

Scary Terry holds the promise of a great running gag that will, sadly, probably never get to run. I'M GONNA MISS THE FARMER'S MARKET.

BROOKLYN NINE-NINE is starting to find itself, I think. Too bad the ratings are cratering. It will take a drastic scheduling change to save it.
  14. I've only seen the pilot so far, but I definitely got the sense that they didn't have a handle on how Coulson works as a lead character yet.
  15. The second episode shed 3 million viewers and dragged down the whole night for ABC, so maybe pump the brakes on plans for season 2.
  16. And Hank never let the DEA know he had Jesse in custody. So essentially Jesse is under the radar now.Marie knew. Little doubt she passed that on to the cops. There's also the possibility that Uncle Jack & Co. never got around to destroying the DVD of Jesse's confession. They should have, but you never know. Sick fuck Todd might have wanted to keep it. And you know poor, doting Uncle Jack never could say no to his nephew.
  17. SWEET LORD. The finale pulled in 10 million viewers. That's an amazing number for cable, period, but even moreso when you consider the show rarely pulled in more than 2 million viewers for most of its existence. Behold the power of Netflix, I guess.
  18. I meant to comment on that last night, but didn't. He's very much shot like a ghost for the first half of that episode. A scary one, then a sad, benevolent one.
  19. Yeesh. Better Person: Walter White or Vic Mackey? That's a riddle worthy of the Sphinx. I don't know. I think, for the majority of the show, Walt seemed to buy into his own lie about his reasons for doing the things he did, whereas Vic was always fairly transparent in how he got off on the power of the shield and being King Swinging Dick of the Streets.
  20. Yeah, he didn't say a word to Skyler about the money. She would have no reason to assume Gretchen & Elliot were doing it on Walt's behalf.
  21. I loved this, but based on my initial viewing, I think it's safe for Shawn Ryan to pop the cork on his champagne. THE SHIELD still has the best finale of all time.
  22. Really, that was the climax of the finale. All of the gunplay and strangulation was actually the epilogue.
