  1. Is it that funny? They were always the safe, stadium friendly-sounding band. Musically, they were not far off your Extreme, Thunder, Warrant or other early 90s '80s bands'. They just had much smarter lyrics and plaid. They're Seattle REM. And there's nothing wrong with that; they were just built to last. I guess it was partly the fact that most of the band had lost Andrew Wood so let's behave. Saw them in 2000, and - Do the Evolution aside - it was pretty much Snoozeville. I don't hate them though. I like pretty much all those bands from inception til about 96.
  2. Are you insane? YouTube Sleep's Dopesmoker and check back in an hour. This. Oh so very much this. Yeah. Like asking if Ozzy's songs with Black Sabbath are worth checking out And those Mercyful Fate albums are great... but if it's yellow or red vinyl, I don't give a shit how much it weighs - it'll sound like my arse. What if your arse sounds like Apollo's lyre? So that was you on curry night!
  3. I haven't read these since I wrote them, but here's me writing on their early albums: http://www.factmag.com/2010/01/06/warpaint-exquisite-corpse/ http://www.factmag.com/2010/11/22/warpaint-the-fool/ I know, I'm a slut, but here we are. [edit] Why is access denied? Can I not use links any more? :/

  5. That Pride one looked pretty obscene. The SF one, while nice, doesn't seem all that much better (if at all) than the Bushido 9 one. Gomi, Kawajiri, Hansen, Pulver, Sakurai, Azeredo - and two rounds on the one show. God, I loved that show.
  6. People dislike Jones because he's an arse, but one who's afraid to admit that he is. I'm not sure anyone wants him to be a care bear (and if they're on other sites, maybe take it up with the dudes on those sites instead of banging on about it here), but if you're going to be a dickhead, either shit or get off the pot. He's just a god-fearing, polite/rude, skilled/cheating idiot. And that most likely means he's a well rounded person with different moods, but it makes for a shit public persona.
  7. I'd love to be the dude who's seemingly employed to shout 'TBE!' I know little about boxing, so he may actually be a great trainer or financial analyst. But he's just the annoying 'TBE!' shouter to me.
  8. Probably not. Message boards and Twitter are pretty much it, really. I'm (and a fair few folk here) a better reviewer than 99% of the hacks out there, and I barely write anything.
  9. I'm glad Werdum got the win, and his time did nothing to diminish my rooting for him. Browne beat two of my favourites, so that didn't help his cause. But Werdum seems so charismatic and affable, judging him against his opponents by a last 12 months fight record seems a bit churlish. I'll be crestfallen when he gets very slowly ground into the dirt by a lumbering Velasquez. Enjoyed the prelims, actually. Better than most main cards in recent months, for sheer decent matchups and the odd impressive finish.
  10. I really don't need to see Big Nog get stopped again (or ever, for that matter), but I will watch this, because I am a dirty addict.
  11. I really need to post here more. That I was the only vote for Filth was something that could have easily been rectified had I just told people to watch it. Absolutely brilliant stuff. Side Effects was pretty good, but when it came to the list, I forgot I even saw it. The Act of Killing is awful. Brilliantly made, and insanely moving. But I feel dirty recommending it to anyone. Truly the dark side of human existence. There are just too many films I missed at the cinema. Boobs. I'll be better in 2014.
  12. The unironic likes on grizzly's ironic post (16) is blowing my mind. Never change, DVDVRMB! Also: I'm not burned out by weekly shows. In fact, I now find it weird if there's a week where there is no UFC. I don't see why a sporting promotion shouldn't run a show a week. It's not like it's the same dudes fighting.
  13. He can and has, but even with those improvements he hasn't shown he has the stand up to beat JDS or the wrestling to take JDS down. I doubt he'd plan to take JDS down, but I also don't think the Brazilian is sufficiently bulletproof. As I say, he's the clear favourite, but Miocic has enough chin, size and skill to make it more than just a blowout.
  14. Miocic has something for JDS. If you're a heavyweight who is good at striking, and your opponent's primary mode of attack is striking, you always have something for him. JDS is crisper, and - if my mind's eye is right at all - has better reach, but he's not so outlandishly good at striking that Miocic can't get him. Do I think JDS is the massive favourite? Sure. Do I think Miocic has nothing for him? Nope. He's not a dummy like Carwin and he's not 5'10 like Hunt. I also think Werdum would be interesting in a JDS rematch. He's looked excellent since his UFC return. Stipe Miocic: JDS vs. Werdum: Same technique too. I'd like to think a professional fighter can work on areas of weakness over the course of a year and a half.

  16. I loved that. Up there with Yves Edwards, before one Pride show, claiming he trains with people who hit harder than anyone's ever been hit. Fake brawl or not, there was still infinitely more action in that than King Mo's fight. And I was actually hopeful, based on the premise of King Mo vs Scary Russian. The highlight reel was just a couple of ok takedowns. Rampage's promos >>>> Chael's.
  17. I'll watch it for the main, Matt Mitrione vs. Shawn Jordan and Hatsu Hioki vs. Ivan Menjivar. I'm nice like that. I don't think it's any worse than some cards they have on lately.
  18. Yeah, there is that. Kudos on the obscure but pretty apropos reference. If MacDonald retains a vicious streak for a decade, he'll be sorted.
  19. I wish. A true MMA Bateman would be spectacular. As it is, Bonnar is way closer. He can string a sentence together, and is somewhat delusional. MacDonald is just a single-speed bike away from being the world's toughest Belle and Sebastian fan.
  20. 'Heel' seems to have been a pretty common slang term in the past in America. It's used to describe a bad guy, a jerk.
  21. I think he's one of the most interesting fighters they have. It's a company full of rednecks with identikit shit tattoos. This is a well-spoken man with massively high skill level in a particular discipline. He threw Josh Barnett around like a paper plane, and renowned grappler Frank Mir was helpless against his standing wrestling game. Plus he knocked out Bigfoot which - judging by the Hunt and Overeem fights - isn't exactly easy. If all that isn't interesting, then the UFC is in trouble. that's kinda my point. he clearly has an abundance of skills. he's beaten 4 top 10 heavyweights and is now dropping to LHW and (was) taking on a top 5 guy. how is this not getting more anticipation? is it a lack of "charisma"? a fighting style that doesn't really seem to be all that exciting? lack of trash talk? i don't get the disconnect here. Cormier started to fall out of favor with me with the Barnett match where he just decided to coast to a decision. Then he fights unknown Dion Staring and then comes to the UFC and has his two unexciting fights with Mir and Nelson. I'm sure he's gutted that he fell out of favour with you. I don't know the ins and outs of Strikeforce matchmaking, but is Cormier to blame for who he gets booked against? I'm pretty much the only person in the world who liked the fight where Mir got smeared across the Octagon wall. I'm comfortable with that.

  23. I don't know how you'd be aware of them if you don't use it.
  24. Pretty sure there were trolls before Twitter. And if you don't use it, you can avoid all the idiocy
