WRESTLING ON THE INTERNET NOT FROM THE NOW

You’d figure that the Cruel Connection should be incompetent at non-wrestling things too if they’re losing every match. -

Just got a Billie Starkz mention on the radio here. From a daytime DJ on an alternative station who usually has the most pointless comments about her desire to get “Aliens Exist” by Blink 182 as her music. No mention of which company she works for. But still. -

I’m surprised they gave a koala to Michael Hayes. I guess they figure that they could have snatched the bear back before Hayes got it drunk -
I’d imagine that going 40+ in front of the loudest fans that North Carolina had to offer would be an experience I wanna say that the lime green ring skirt outlasts Techwood (they’re moving from Techwood to Center Stage sometime in 1989?) and that skirt might have seen 1990. But yeah, they brought the ring skirt for a NWA Worldwide episode to a PPV. Also it might not have been as apparent because Ricky would take sabbaticals and Ric Flair really didn’t but is it possible that Steamboat was as much of a formula worker as Flair? This could be interpreted as downplaying how much Ric Flair played the hits but Steamboat had his spots too and probably kept mixing them up enough to not get stale (also he would leave TV for periods which probably kept him fresh)

Watching some videos on the Bobbie Wygant archive (she’s a long time Dallas reporter and there’s a YouTube channel of her celebrity interviews) So now I’m hearing similarities in how Dan Blocker (Hoss from Bonanza) and Bill Watts sound while speaking:- 2,468 replies

Gordy was the glue of the Freebirds all along, wasn't he? and once they started doing the Freebirds without Gordy, then... Edit: or to put it in Stooge terms.. Michael Hayes is Moe Buddy Roberts is Larry Terry Gordy is Curly Jimmy Garvin is Shemp and the rest are Joe Besser or Curly Joe DeRita -
feels like you could thin the herd for the lower bowl games if the first round playoff games aren't replacing some of the bowls or some nutjob will try to get bowl games matching up first round losers in a meaningless consolation bowl in Charleston

"boyfriend who really enjoys videogames while his girlfriend wrestles" would essentially just be a gimmick ribbing Adam Cole, wouldn't it? -
The Chiefs have signed Matt Araiza as it's possible the incumbent punter (Tommy Townsend) is departing for more money. Araiza and the accuser wrapped up their lawsuits 2 months ago with a mutual agreement to not admit wrongdoing or pay anybody. But Araiza can still sue the attorney of his accuser.

I've typed it in the AEW folder. I don't know if i've typed it here. But Christian Cage's AEW gimmick is probably the best cult leader gimmick going, at least for the sake of being credible and not hokey. -

One gimmick that would probably be alarmingly realistic that probably wouldn't work in wrestling: the guy who is only there because his girlfriend is wrestling. Basically it'd be a takeoff of all the women who got onto TV because their boyfriend/husband is a wrestler. I know the whole "hot wife, dumb guy" dynamic is in various media and some people (mainly guys) hate that trope. Maybe it'll be more wholesome if the hanger-on guy is actually a fan instead of someone who ends up hooking up with another woman in his heel turn. Of course if your booker has some issues with women, then the man would be doing a Dancin Stevie gimmick where the woman is 1995 Raven. Granted, I think Stevie probably did that sort of gimmick in the WWE. It is nice of wrestling to have multiple recent cult leader gimmicks that don't involve a male cult leader just exclusively manipulating women. Then again, "powerful man bending women to his will" might hit too close to home for at least the WWE. -

Michael Hayes working a dark match in 1995 does open up a universe where either Hayes or Dok Hendrix is working matches in 1995 WWF until it becomes obvious that his back is too bad to work If I had to guess, Ken Raper might be getting WWF work in 1995 maybe because Kama is just starting and Raper worked Soultaker a few years before, or maybe through Todd Morton, I was thinking Hayes might have brought Raper along but CageMatch doesn’t think Raper was working Memphis when Hayes was there -

A WWF show in Macon, Georgia in 1995 means an assortment of dudes getting to work the card who are available.. running down the matches with at least one enhancement guy from Macon and Augusta (the next night) running through the names.. that would be Jim Steele's tryout, about 7 months after his last WCW match and during a time when he was working matches in All-Japan Jeff Barber doesn't have a CageMatch profile. WrestlingData insists that Jeff Barber is Jeff Farmer. Sabough would be the legend himself... Italian Stallion Various guys who would be best known for jobbing in WCW: Leroy Howard, Mark Starr, Bobby Hayes jobbed in WCW a bit in 1995, Bob Cook is a legend in the community of WCW jobbers, as is Larry Santo. Charlie Hunter would be better known as Jeff Bradley or Dudley Dudley Riggins pretty much remained exclusive to the WWF in regards to jobbing. Mike Unabomb, like you're trying to act like Unabomb is a plausible surname. Rip Rogers actually jobbed at Center Stage a few weeks before showing up to job on WWF TV (Nasty Boys vs Greg Sawyer and Rip Rogers) Someone gave Ken Raper a ride so he could do some TV jobs outside of Tennessee and the Black Phantom would be... Gangrel Chic Donovan would go to North Charleston the next night to job to Davey Boy on a card with a job crew of Larry Santo, Todd Morton, Chic Donovan, Charlie Hunter, Barry Horowitz, Brawler, Major Yates who doesn't have a CageMatch profile, and Bob Hayes. It feels like a Rip Rogers/Chic Donovan tag team would enrage any VFW Hall in the South. Also the Gunns vs Rip/Chic match only went 2 minutes so it might not be worth watching March 1995 WWF Superstars for that match. Chic and Rip worked together on TV in WCW in 1993 (Jim Neidhart and JYD vs Chic and Rip in the spring) and they worked together some in February 1985 in Championship Wrestling from Georgia. But that 1995 match was their last time together. -

tonight's card was at the BOK Center in Tulsa. Wrestletix has AEW selling 3124 tickets in a building set up for 3262 seats. I would have called it the "BOCK Center" if I didn't hear them say Bee-Okay. Anyways, the BOK center seats 17,000 for basketball/hockey, if that gives you any indicator of how much of the building they used. The BOK Center was also where Trump held his first 2020 rally post-COVID outbreak with a "lower than expected" turnout. But yeah, I'd imagine that only using 1/6th of a building is gonna look a little weird on TV. -

in regards to Deonna/Rayne, on one hand, that's not how you're supposed to do the Downward Spiral/Flatliner. On the other hand, nice to see that there is a way to make that move look dangerous, and that way is to fuck it up. -

Things I remember from this week's edition of AEW Dynamite: Hey another time limit draw, this time between FTR and Cesaroxley. I forget if we're at 3 weeks in a row with matches ending without a winner since I don't recall if Page/Swerve was on the 7th or January 31st. Anyways, interesting idea lately. Orange Cassidy with some fury as his feud rolls on. Also Jake Hager is freeing himself from Jericho. Ric Flair is talking to the Bucks Christian unleashes his micwork on Daniel Garcia Darby and Sting have a message for the Bucks Back to back women's matches, where Deonna almost kills her opponent and we get a Deonna/Toni showdown Wardlow is mad So the main event is Joe (heel), Swerve (heel going face) and Cage (heel) vs Page (heel), Hook (face) and RVD (face). Well. okay. Was about to comment on the Woo Energy cans lasting 2 hours on the desk before Page put Swerve through the table. Maybe RVD and Hook being the only friends Page can get is part of the story. And after all that, Joe beats RVD. And we never saw Ric Flair again. So, a lot of the talent couldn't make it to Tulsa for various reasons?
