2022 WRESTLERS LEAVING COMPANIES THREAD (Releases, FAs, etc...)
Ziggy replied to RIPPA's topic in The PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING
I agree with Bryan, Shane is an escape goat for that boring Rumble match. If he did book that Rumble match shame for them for letting his ideas get through. Atleast we are safe from our token McMahon Family WrestleMania match with Hunter presumably in no condition to have another match and Shane gone for the time being and I don't scenario where Sheph gets back in the ring although we know never to rule Vince himself out for anything but I'd be more than okay with any of them never wrestling again. I've always pictured Shane being booked by Vince in a way to make up for lost times I guess. I never could picture Shane carrying himself as the entitled bookers son that he portrayed when he wad younger in the Attitude era. I just picture him wanting to be viewed as one of the boys and not wanting to get heat but apparently not . He by far was the most entertaining McMahon as far as match wise but it had been getting ridiculous with him have a spot on these main PPVS, especially WrestleManias. It was cute when he first came back and was GM. But him and Hunter and Taker taking up someone else's spot. On top of the fact that you feel the need to go 15 to 20 minutes or so knowing you can't hold up for that long.- 1,336 replies

Why is Brock in the EC ? are they still going back and forth creatively as to doing title for title? I'd rather Lashley go into WrestleMania as Champ but as always always feels like their Champ is just a transition for someone else
-
Before going into the match with Roman, Was Seth a babyface? I thought this was the best thing on the Show. I thought that this was the Rollins we should have been seeing for years. I know thus is just a side feud for Roman in between time for WrestleMania but I think It should be fun to see them Wrestle again. Seth for a while has come off pretty lame and mainly because of booking but he kinda got fresh again with the drip God deal but him in the Shield gear got him over with me again and the way he worked the match aggressively
-
Wasn't Melina in either the last Royal Rumble or the year before?
-
I liked Roman vs Seth , Seth came across as a bad ass in that match tonight. I liked Brock vs Lashley. I didn't have much expectations for anything else so I'm not as disappointed as everyone else. Outside of Bad Bunny everything else sucked in the Rumble
-
WWE will hold on to you just for the fact of them knowing your miserable. Is it professional to work your way out of your contract? No. But going to the ring uninspired every night has to be unsafe for you and your opponent, especially at 44. Jeff was still one of the most over guys without them even putting in any conscious effort is a credit to him. It reminds me of Sid when ever he came back, he was always more over than the company wanted him to be.

I plan on watching the Rumble anyway but the rumors of Ronda returning makes the show more interesting. Lashley vs Lesnar was something I've been wanting to see since Lashley came back and it seems to be built up pretty well. That match was probably the only thing I feel invested in as a fan. Asuka, Bayley and Ronda are the only real surprises I would really react to. They've pretty much had every legend make a surprise entry except for maybe Jazz. Liv Morgan is the only person in that Rumble I think the fans want to win in the same way it was for Ripley and Bianca the previous ones. It also surprises me how many people expect Ronda to get boo'd if she enters the Rumble, I think the fans will receive her well as long as they don't force to hard of her being babyface unless she really insist on being a heel, she definitely can turn that up as well. The Rumble matches are fun to watch live as it happens even though you see the same exact tropes every year. And now we have two. The Rumble match with Brock at number one was probably the only modern Rumble match I'd consider watching back again but outside of the fact that your not sure who's going to win the Rumble matches going in, especially now since winning it doesn't mean thats your last shot at your title match at WrestleMania. I don't know what to expect out of the Men's Royal Rumble because I haven't been watching the TV and Drew's hurt so I guess that should be fun to watch because I have no idea where they'll go with that.

2022 WRESTLERS LEAVING COMPANIES THREAD (Releases, FAs, etc...)
Ziggy replied to RIPPA's topic in The PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING
I do expect a company like AEW or even New Japan offering in a decent amount to work for them in some capacity but knowing how loyal Regal was to WWE and even how grateful to them for saving his life early on in his run with that company, I don't see him just jumping so quickly at the first outside offer just not to look desperate. If any of the non inring personalities have a chance to get rehired , He'd be the to of the list but at the same time if it's true that guys were getting released because they were Hunter's right hand guys he'd actually have the least chance of returning. Either way, I hope to see him apart of someone's promotion in some for because it's good for the industry as a whole.- 1,336 replies

That whole Walter situation is really weird how they insisted on getting the Gunther Stark thing on the TV of their farm league. I could see them trying to get it on the main roster because Vince is directly hands on but even with all that backlash leading to time they went live they decided to just take off the last name? Forget about the moral aspect for a second this is the same company afraid to show blood, in most cases because of fear of turning off sponsors. That's also their excuse for heavily scripted promos because 'fear' of guys cutting an x rated Ric Flair promo and turning off sponsors. This is the same company that doesn't want to have people with the same first name or last name but they still insist on having Zoey Stark and Walter have the same last name. It's very intentional obviously but it's also weird how they are afraid of scaring off sponsors in most other situations like even though they decided to go with the Gunther name it's surprising they didn't atleast keep the Walter name for atleast another week instead of just insisting on going with a name change anyway

I love how you don't see Bryan, Punk and even before he was went into rehab, Moxley on every Dynamite or Rampage every week. AEW overall has done a good job featuring newer guys especially in the past year and a half. I also like how even alot of these guys they are building up like Dante Martin and the Acclaimed aren't these indie darling super workers you'd think would have the better chance of getting over with their built in fanbase they currently have. They've been taking their time building angles and building up people. I think guys like MJF and Sammy whom they've been building since day one of been on TV haven't reached the peek of there investment in them. They still have a ton of work to do in many areas though. I like the idea someone said earlier about the Owen Hart invitational being AEWs version of the Super J Cup. I hope that's what that go for. A tournament mainly built around workrate and not so much advancing feuds. I don't know if we'll get so much workrate level out of the Women's Owen Cup unless we get alot of outside talent.

I wish the would have waited a PPV or 2 for Rude vs Warrior because it would've been better to have him again an opponent he never faced on PPV. They originally planned for a Hogan vs Warrior rematch I hear but I also hear they planned on Tugboat vs Hogan. Tugboat seemed like he was in that early Hill Billy Jim early JYD position where they are over as Hulks top Allies respectively. I don't see them turning Warrior heel but didn't they consider turning him before he held Vince up as Summerslam? I think Vince hitched himself to Warrior as the top guy getting over no matter what and thought he'd take off like Hulk did in '84 as soon as he Won the belt. Alot of Warriors opponents was guys he defeated as IC Champ. Hogan had a ton of fresh opponents in the first 2 3 years on top.

That had to be around 2006 2007 the latest. I will say some times the refs attending to the wrestlers when they hardway lends more realism. There are sometimes when it's takes away from a match
-
Bret is the GOAT hands down because he was able to convince Vince on 2 to 3 different occasions that he was busted open hardway including Austin at WrestleMania which made Austin a made man. It's one thing to work the Audience another thing to work the boys and probably more impressive to work Vince.
-
I agree some of these guys are going to stand out better outside of the big 2 for a minute. AEW might be more exposure for alot of these guys but it'll be easy to get lost in the shuffle.

I doubt Cody Rhodes would want to go back to WWE this point in time especially. I know people seem to believe Hunter is pretty much out of favor as far as any influence in WWE but Cody throwing subliminal shots at Hunter would make WWE not an option as far as leverage. I don't see New Japan wanting him. Unless he wants to be like the new Jeff Jarrett and work these NWA shows and maybe AAA. I don't see him anywhere else but AEW. Unless Vince wanted to Sign Cody to spite Hunter.
-
If the pandemic wasn't happening and Murphy got to wrestling New Japan proper, like as a Gaijin touring regular, He'd be killing it on Mid-South Tony would be wishing he'd brought him in. Strickland was killing it in WWE for a long time before HitRow and Even HitRow was an entertaining act. It's more of a WWE type act but I think HitRow would get over big in AEW. Strickland has more than enough workrate to even it out for the rest of the act. Top Dolla probably won't never get an offer though. I selfishly want to see that faction on someone's TV. I could see them I'm on MLW

I wonder if he thinks he could've been in the spot Kofi had a few years ago. I know Kofi was his replacement in that EC but I don't think they would have planned to go all the way like they did with Kofi. As indecisive as Vince is nowadays its kinda wrong to say if a certain hypothetical situation would happen because how ADHD minded he is. Ali is one of those guys I've felt should have left a few years ago
-
Usually an Entrant from NXT is Usually a person that very over to the NXT enough to get a reaction on the main roster. I could see Roddy entering and backbreaking people left and right which would be cool.
-
Yes, but it was unintentional which makes it a totally different thing to them. It got Becky over to the next level that they hadn't planned to at that time. And at the same time WWE would have been stupid not to do something with that. That whole statement is an big deal only because it's a women's match. They did the same in the mid 90s with WCW and before that in the 80s trying to paint themselves as the more sanitized inring product in comparison
-
WWE has gone back and forth on their views on blading and blood in general for almost 40 years. I don't mind someone getting color in a match if the match calls for it. This company has PPVs based around TLC matches ,Elimination Chamber Matches , He'll in the Cell Matches etc though out the year annually for over a decade and they've had a no color policy for that same amount of time. You shouldn't promote those gimmick Matches knowing these guys can't have any blood. That's dumb, thats like booking The Summerslam 95 Razor vs Shawn ladder match and telling them they couldn't use the ladder as a weapon. The same company where Executive Vice President was using a Sledgehammer to get heat on his opponents, ever after the blood policy was inactive. I know he wasn't the first person to use the Sledgehammer but he made it his signature thing, one of the most business exposing things ever with or without blood.

2022 WRESTLERS LEAVING COMPANIES THREAD (Releases, FAs, etc...)
Ziggy replied to RIPPA's topic in The PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING
The thing about Foley was that he probably came across as the more relatable personality inspite of his hard-core style. I didn't get to see his ECW stuff till after the fact but even those promos as a heel in ECW he came across as a real person with a family. It wasn't difficult for guys to try to immulate his hard-core approach but I think the fact that he was established as a down to earth person made fans invested in him. Kinda how Kevin Owens is now. Owens is good as a heel but at the same time as a face people know how much of a family man he is. Even in his program with Cena when he got to the main roster it was established that he was a Prize fighter. The same way when Jim Ross interviewed Mick to get him over as a face, they established that he was a life long wrestling fan that grew up wrestling with his friends wrestling in the back yard doing things most of us did growing up as a wrestling fan. Aesthetically and Stylistically Foley and Owens for that matter are probably the furthest away from the idealistic top guy in WWE and Vinces mind specifically I think that is so endearing- 1,336 replies

2022 WRESTLERS LEAVING COMPANIES THREAD (Releases, FAs, etc...)

True but NXT ended up being run like a super workrate Independent promotion when most of their pushed talent were already established names. Even before airing on USA to go up against Dynamite it was to be precieved as more than just a regional promotion that OVW , Deep South and FCW were.- 1,336 replies

I've never been a fan of having NXT talent past a certain level in the Rumble if you're aren't going all the way with them. If you're going to have Bron in the Rumble let him win the whole thing or don't have him in at all. Same with the female equivalent of him in the Women's Rumble
