  1. Just wanted to say I get where you're coming from. I feel that way about a lot of stuff. I don't really know what the answer is. I love the idea of wrestling, but then I wonder how many kids got a Make-a-Wish visit from this company, and now their parents are like "That guy was doing what with women?" It's fucked.
  2. .... I thought it meant doctor to celebrities, not a doctor who is themselves a celebrity.
  3. I've honestly thought the same thoughts as this, long before today. I feel like everyone knew Vince was a creep at best. Like they're all online. Everyone hears the same rumors. And some wrestlers have made some wild accusations about him in shoot interviews that feel less crazy today then they did 20 years ago. But then I'd hear Bryan Danielson say ... And I'd wonder, "am I fucking crazy?" And so many people talk about his brilliance that don't have to because they're independent. You mentioned Rock and Cena. Steve Austin is another one. I guess I have to remember that this gross side is still only one side of Vince, and that some people may have never been exposed to it. No matter how much it feels really fucking obvious to so many of us who've been keeping up with wrestling for the last 30-40 years. But it's probably really easy to overlook the red flags when the guy is also making your childhood dreams come true. I had a family member who died who was not a great guy either. So many people came to the funeral and told me how much they loved him. The whole time I had to keep reminding myself that they just didn't see the bad. And it sucks that not everyone is paying attention. So is it possible that there are some wrestlers who knew but won't say. Undoubtedly. I'm interested in knowing, but I don't know if we'll ever know. I certainly want some atonement or justice or something. But I feel like that's rare these days.
  4. I feel you. We're planning a party with the kids to watch it. I'm making pizzas and we're all drawing numbers. I'm trying to remember that Vince doesn't own the company any more, and it looks like some of the worst offenders are either out or being ousted. Many of the people who work there are clearly much happier now that he's gone. Sadly I think the biggest life skill WWE has taught me is how to compartmentalize.
  5. Remember that Saudi trip when all the wrestlers were "held hostage", while Brock and Vince got to fly away on his private jet? Reads a little different now.
  6. This will probably be a big conversation so the talk of Vince and the wall street journal story will go over here:
  7. Against my better judgment I wrote about my Top 10 Criterion films. You monsters. https://www.getoutofdepth.com/blog/top-10-criterion-releases
  8. ALSO while we're talking about laserdiscs, I stumbled onto this blog a couple weeks ago called Bad Audio on Blu-Ray: https://blah-ray.blogspot.com/p/what-isthis-revisited-my.html The writer compares audio tracks over different formats of the same movie. Sometimes the laserdisc is the last great audio track of a movie. He also posts wave form pictures and it's amazing how much the wave form changes from release to release.
  9. Speaking of LaserDiscs... I was just catching up on this guy's youtube channel and he did a couple of videos about laserdisc preservation:
  10. Okay that's enough. Someone turn off the good times for Detroit. It's getting gross.
  11. Neil Magny just shit all over Mallott's coming out party. 100% finish rate vs. Neil Magny Decision Machine = lots of people losing lots of money apparently.
  12. Chris Curtis walking out like a Rated R SUUUUUUUPer STAR.
  13. Only caught the third round of Jasmine Jasudavicius brutalizing Cachoeira so far. Had a big family dinner. Did I miss anything else?
  14. Look I want to be, begrudgingly, happy for you Lions fans for having a fun season after all the misery you've endured. And I've got a soft spot for David Montgomery. But I can't take the Lions AND Packers winning playoff games in the same day. Sorry not sorry. Go Rams.
  15. Remember when the plan to get Devin Hester involved as a WR was to throw him screens, because they thought it would replicate his punt/kick return skills? Because I've hated the Screen ever since then.
  16. Criterion also still does Top 10 lists on their website, where they have an even more eclectic group of people writing about their favorite Criterions. From Jeopardy's Ken Jennings to Kelly Reichardt, from the band Mogwai to Christopher Nolan. https://www.criterion.com/current/category/8-top-10-lists And, after you exhaust all that, Konbini does a similar video series, where they take filmmakers and actors into seemingly the last video store in Paris.
  17. I'm very interested in an Ankalaev vs. Perreira fight. Despite the wonky fight against Jan Blachowicz, Magomed still feels like one of the scariest most complete guys in the division.
  18. THAT OLD DOG JIM MILLER STILL HUNTIN' BAAYYBEEEEEE
  19. Yeah that Defoe one is an all timer closet pick. Him talking about trying to remake Onibaba, but not being able to get it right blew my mind. Dan Levy did one recently that I really enjoyed too, where he told a story about recommending The Piano Teacher to families at the Video Store, not because he'd seen it but because it sounded like an important movie.
  20. And it's not like Yan Xionan is a bad fighter. She just maybe got this one a little faster than maybe merit would've allowed. I've been wanting to see this fight for a while, so I'm pumped. Also Cody Garbrandt vs. Figueiredo was announced too.. Here's to hoping it's the same Cody that called him out. Could be a killer fight.
  21. I wonder what's going on that Gaethje isn't in the title eliminator fight? I know he was making a case for being next, but now that's definitively off the table. I know Holloway was wanting to move up and get a BMF super fight going, which I'd be all about.
  22. I actually had no idea who he (Hausman) was until this weekend. I was just googling the AEW card going into World's End. All I got were headlines about "ALLEGATIONS". Then I watched a bunch of people determine a terrible story invented by internet sleuths was real, based on something they read on Twitter. This is crazy to me, but so common place. And it happens here too. It's baffling that folks just stop in to drop a twitter post they think is interesting without context, or even research if its true. Like we're already smelling each other's farts in here, no need to bring outside farts into the room.
  23. Subscribing to Vinegar Syndrome is well worth it, if you can do the upfront. I save up each year for it. I get 75 dollars off for resubscribing. Oh, and the subscription counts towards their Club points, so not only do I instantly have somewhere between 25-30 dollars in rewards that I can use on anything, it moves me into that tier where I earn 1.5x on any other purchases through out the year. And because subscribers already get the discounted price all year long, sometimes we'll get a little special discount or coupon during big sales. It's the best, and it blows my mind that they just seem to keep growing every year.
  24. That's why I was surprised Whittaker called for it. Though I guess he was lobbying for Usman if Usman was going to give Middleweight a real go, and that fell through. I mean it makes sense on paper, because he's trying to find someone in a reasonable position that help him get hot again(especially with Izzy out). But it feels like such a potential waste of huge resources and time trying to get a fight with Costa.
