Didn't Turner underpay WCW for the TV rights? I was under the impression that WCW padded the bottom line of TBS and TNT due to the cheap rights fee charged, leaving WCW in the red. Granted, house show attendance was terrible, and PPV buys were not good, but still.

I used to go to the shows at the Arena, and "Dreds" actually was freaking out on drugs. I think he was a Hare Krishna street person. He tried to talk to me about Krishna once and I had to slowly back away.

Vince had already won the war by Wrestlemania. At worst, it would have still been successful as an MSG show because those shows still packed the house then. Yes he would lost a lot of money but he'd still have the usual Boston, MSG, Philly rotation to work with. He also had already poached the talent he needed and his competitors still wouldn't have known how to fight him. Crockett still would have been spending like mad with the pirvate jets and would have had to sell to Turner, keeping that history similar. I always thought the narrative was that Vince put all his eggs in the WMI basket, and that if failed he would have been broke. Being cash poor and having to cut back to his core towns would have certainly slowed down his national expansion, allowing for new competitors to rise. I'd guess that he would still have emerged as the only big time promoter in the end, but the territories would have a few more years to run.

Yeah, but that's why you'd only run that area if you had serious money and connections in wrestling, so you can import people from other areas. Exactly. There have been some retired workers here and I've even tgalked to them about running a show here and training guys but, well...that's as far as it goes. I've ring announced at some local MMA show that have done very well. I really do think a really athletic style indie would work here. I guess there is an indie running in Salt Lake (four hours from me) but I have yet to check out a show. I would think that bringing guys in that were known nationally would be financially unworkable. Because of the distance, wouldn't everyone be a fly-in? Is there anyone of note living around Calgary these days besides Lance Storm?

The timing is terrible with Jordy and Jennings. It looks like you have no choice but to play one in the FLEX. Pick your poison there-- Jennings is going to struggle against the JETS if he plays, and Nelson is having a tough time with the QB carousel in GB. Unless there's someone gold on your WW (drop TB), you're stuck there.
