  1. I'm a STH and am excited for this season. I live in NY and got them because it costs me less to get Sixers season to see my Knicks twice (plus 41 extra games) than it would to see two games at MSG even factoring in travel costs (thanks $18 rt Chinatown bus! ). Also I love the city of Philadelphia and need an excuse to visit as often as I can. But it's been my experience that Philly will support the Sixers passionately if given a reason. There have been numerous times going through Center City after games where random people along the way spot me wearing Sixers gear and high five me. The Iverson game last year was proof that deep down people care about the Sixers.
  2. Big news: Devils won a shootout tonight against the Isles in Newark. The crowd of about 3,500 was mildly pleased. Devils started almost all regulars while Isles put out a side mostly guys who are going to be in Bridgeport. Devils didn't look good to say the least, only scoring one goal on Halak and were outplayed by the Isles kids. Strome missed a sitter in the second, it was harder for him to miss on an open net than to score but he hit the post. Lee was the one guy I really thought stood out tonight, created opportunities on several ocasions. In other news the Devils apparently got rid of their dance team. A few people complained, I hit them all in the head with a mallet.
  3. So I did my research, and Sabres play in DC on Saturday November 22nd. Hound would cost me $45 which is reasonable enough, and tixs are going for $40 on StubHub, which is also reasonable. Question for our DC area posters: should I jump on the SH $40 tixs now or is it likely that I will be able to get cheaper at a later date? Also what's the Caps tix situation? Is it still a hot tix or has demand cooled off in recent years? Can I get from team for cheaper (do they have a day of game $15 tix like some teams do)? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
  4. There are not enough "Likes" in the universe for this. I have 2 sporting fantasies that would allow me to die a happy man: One is the return of the Whalers. The second is the Red Bull shitheads fucking off back to Austria for good. The Metrofanatic board is officially Pants Free at this point. Someday in the future, I hope this day is noted in history for the beginning of the liberation of Metro from the soda jerks. Anyone know if Terry Pegulia wants to further diversify his holdings?
  5. Ryan Haggerty abusing Andrew MacDonald and Braydon Cobern for a goal was the highlight tonight at MSG. Went through them like traffic cones. He did the same thing to Zack Stortini, but that's Zack Stortini and not an actual NHL player.
  6. According to reports Chivas USA will be contracted once the season ends. On a funny note their supporters group (yes, they have one) claims that they will petition the Galaxy to allow them to go to games as a visiting supporters section. Vaya con Dios goats.
  7. Flyers-Devils tonight was the very definition of Shit vs Crap. Devils seemingly were on the power play half the game and only managed to score 3 times (and Scott Gomez of all people got 2 of them) Flyers were going through the motions all night. The only positive was that only about 3,500 witnessed it and game wasn't televised. Hope tomorrow's game at MSG is much better, because tonight was only padding the totals.
  8. Still remember the Current Affair piece on him. He made Charles Wang look sane in comparison, which is amazing. Between him, Jeremy Jacobs and old man Wirtz there was quite a contest over which NHL owner was the biggest asshole back then.
  9. Just finished the book "Dynasty: the oral history of the NY Islanders 1972-1984" by Greg Prato. Great book, highly recommend. Learned a lot about the team and era. Anyone know of any other team history books worth checking out?
  10. Thank you for bringing this to my attention! Will go well next to my copy of Jack Lautier's Whaler Encyclopedia. Need to tell the guy who runs the FHLs Danbury Whalers to set up a book signing at a game.
  11. For the premium seats yes. Games in Philly and NY started at $89, but they hold those back. Next cheapest is $119, and if you are willing to pay you will almost surely be able to get one of those. If you want an idea how insane prices can lead to tickets being available a friend of mine got a ticket to the Cup finals for Bruins and Devils day of the game at the window (paid north of $200 each).
  12. BWP: The ultimate scoring machine! There's your story of the weekend.
  13. That's also where Amtrak stops, right? Know if the hound has a red eye back to NY for after the game?
  14. DC metro stops right under the verizon/mci center. DYK if the Hound stop in DC is nearby (know the arena is in Chinatown)? Assuming worst case its near a Metro station.
  15. Watching the legendary Flyers-Islanders Game 6 of the 1980 cup final. My God is this awesome, makes the modern NHL look so lame in comparison. It's like going from watching Bill Watts Mid South to watching Raw. And a question for you guys: anyone know the cheapest way to get from NYC toTD Bank Garden (Boston) or Verizon Center (DC) via public transportation? Toying of the idea of seeing the Sabres when they visit those venues but would want to come back same day.
  16. Got my Isles tickets in the mail today. Each ticket has a memorable moment in the team's history, and three things struck me about them: 1- A Rick DiPietro moment is on one of them. I laughed. If they had a sense of humor they should've noted the date he signed the 15 year deal. 2- Pat Lafontaine is featured on one of them. Him and Wang hate each other, even to the point that when they did something similar for tickets a few years back (40th anniversary) Patty was completely ignored. I know Wang is in the process of selling but was still pleasantly surprised by this. 3- One of the dates is the infamous game 6 vs. the Caps from 1993, and features a picture of Pierre Turgeon with a note that he scored an insurance goal in the win. My jaw hit the floor when I saw that one.
  17. I want you to proudly put that in your sig because its so idiotic we should all get to laugh at it.
  18. Seeing the scum fans and their miserable caveman of a coach in full meltdown mode is a glorious sight to behold. Even better was that one of their traveling supporters did something stupid and got dragged out by police (and RBA has security that is quite tolerant, especially by MLS standards). Loving every minute of it!
  19. Henry with another gem vs the sporks tonight. I'm really hoping we make the knockout round of the CCL because if we do there's a decent chance he graces us with one more season.
  20. Question for you guys: do you know who has the rights to the WHA footage? Would really love to see some vintage games on the NHLN, particularly the Fighting Saints-Whalers game that featured a bench clearing brawl whose radio call was immortalized as the b side of the Brass Bonanza LP.
  21. Who was the coach who once yanked Harvey's tongue off? Still remember that from years ago but can't recall who did it.
  22. Don't know if this tidbit is out of date, but IIRC Norway is the only country in the world with a winning record vs. Brazil.
  23. "People have a preconception about wrestling that it's seedy and sleazy. We need to change this! Let's bring in Jerry Springer! "
