  1. One thing I really love AEW is almost every Dynamite starts with some sort of in-ring action. Raw having what seems a twenty minute long promo to setup the night is just old.
  2. Wembley was a wow moment; and is a huge statement from the Kahns on AEW. Not sure what they will do to fill that place but it has a chance to be a huge show. The Gunns last night were interesting. Great heels trying to get DQed on purpose with FTR refusing to lose that way. BUT FTR had to carry the Gunns in the match; the match was clunky at times as the timing was off. Really glad FTR are the champs. BCC vs Elite with Hangman Anarchy in the Arena - can it wait till August? 3 Way - Sammy, Jungle Boy, MJF for the title? Could be really fun. Man, Sammy is hungry in the best way
  3. Considering Cody and Big E were personally there for the family the day Jon died; and Cody has been there for the Hubers since then.
  4. Everything that went right on night 1 (and night 1 was really spectacular) was almost undone on night 2. Night 1 the whole Pat Mcafee run-in with Miz while goofy was fun and acted as a moment of levity. Shane, unfortunately, blows out his quad (what is with the McMahons and their quads?). The Hell in the Cell match same thing - had the potential to be really good, and the injury in the middle just derailed the whole thing. The question on not moving onto Cody to me is this. In 1997 WCW built heavily to Sting beating Hogan at Starrcade. Sting beat him on a really bad screw job finish; instead of beating Hogan in the ring clean. Completely missed the moment. Feels like the same here - Cody winning the championship creates some nice storylines. The Bloodline story does not need the belts to play out for a while. The main event in retrospect was what we see on Raw week in/week out.
  5. The opening segment was actually really good. Now can they elevate everyone together? Hopefully. Like that is a payoff to the whole Pillars concept from before. New faces in the mix.
  6. Wonder if Mox is getting his time off finally. Danielson and Mox really stepped up post Punk to carry the company.
  7. Less is more with AEW. Obvioulsy the 60 minute main meant less matches but they kept the card to under 4 hours. Do you use the PPV to start feuds or end them? AEW seemed to use this one to end most of them - clearly Jungle Boy, Hangman and Starkes are done and moving on; Same with MJF. Love that FTR are back and squarely in the tag title picture. It's weird in that coming out of the PVV the storylines are potentially wrapped up - and the next chapter and build to All Out can begin. Who is the third AEW original on the women's side - is it Willow? Could be great place for her? Don't think Jade needs it.
  8. With Mox now, he is getting to the point like a Dusty,Flair or Harley where they had a place that was able to be cut open with no problem. I keep seeing these pics of Harley from the late 70s, early 80s and his forehead over his left eye is perpetually discolored. Mox elevating Preston Vance would be great. RUSH is amazing and can seriously see putting the world title on him. Every time he gets into the ring it is great work. Kudos for AEW for putting the belts on talent and teams they started. Accliamed, the Gunns, MJF etc. Takes both some confidence and risk taking. It would be easy to put the belts on someone else who has a higher brand value. Now can these new folks carry the ball? MJF - not sure yet frankly.
  9. Lost my Mom in August on a Tuesday. I could not imagine traveling to another town, interacting with others and doing my job. I think I was meeting with the funeral director the next day with my Dad but that week is a just a tangled hairball of memories.
  10. Things I like - AEW opens each night with a quality match, and that match tends to setup the night. Danielson-Rush was simply a great wrestling match. I could see Rush as champ.
  11. "I had my femur surgically realigned 2 weeks ago in order to get back to what I love doing at a high level. " - Tony Hawk - I stand corrected.
  12. I have no clue what Darby Allin's body will look like down the road but these bumps are really cringe worthy. I think there is a rational fear of his health overall. Mikey Whipwreck anyone?? His shelf life just seems so limited. Watching the action sports guys from my era like Tony Hawk walking around now with a cane or Matt Hoffman is his future or worse.
  13. I grew up in Virginia Beach - back in the day once you crossed over to the Eastern Shore you went very rural, especially as you drove more north. The route to Ocean City , Md is extremely rural, very similar to eastern North Carolina heading to the beach from Charlotte today. Annd yes chicken farming is part of it, having seens so many trucks carrying chickens.
  14. Me too - I figure Mark will get to pick a replacement for his brother. If he wants but I could see him never tagging full time again either. I was thinking 20 years as a brother tag team. Legit that's a really long time together - The Briscos only lasted 17 years together. Mismatch in styles and they just never got on the same page.
  15. Tony spending all kinds of political capital to do the Briscoes the right way. Main event was great for giving the fans, ROH and wrestling a great send off. Seriously the rest of the night was mostly an after thought. Danielson still carrying guys left and right.
  16. MJF's work is fine. The fact is we don't see much of it in AEW, which is actually part of the whole role. Throwback if you want to see me wrestle, you have to pay to see it - love the concept. It flies in the face of AEW's model of throwing banger matches out most weeks.
  17. Love all the analogies to a young quarterback. I compare to having young talent who you think could be the next big thing, and you have to try it out. Flair's first NWA reign has often been described as not great, with some saying he was sabotaged (see Charlie Cook in Florida). But they re-shaped it with 1983 and off it went. Is MJF the generational talent or not - suspect we will get a chance to find out. Is he a Sam Darnold/Marcus Mariotta/Baker Mayfield or a Josh Allen? Time to find out. I am encouraged that AEW put the title now on two newer talents (Hangman/MJF). MJF needs to sharpen his promos - just hope he is listening to folks in the back as some great veterans. But the whole 2024 is a huge turn off...
  18. That was literally a tale of two episodes. Either really good - Mox/Hangman - the Triples match at the end was crazy the pacing the six of them did. The ending was great and made sense. I liked they did not go the whole 3-0 route too. Orange Cassidy continues to be great; and man has FTR and Dax had a year. And well the rest was not great. Ana Jay - man I love her to death but she has actually not made much progress at all. I feel like some of the home grown AEW talent on the women's side is really not getting better in the ring. Jade - she at times is really bad on the mic. The MJF promo wandered into turn the channel territory real fast. The bidding war of 2024 IMO is quickly becoming really a distraction. If I had an employee (and I have) always complaining about being paid more, I tell them to go ahead and get a new job. I gave MJF praise a few weeks ago and feel like I need to eat those words. Tonight needed to be a lot tighter; and about 5 minutes shorter. I think in hindsight the length are into the main event.
  19. Hager was amazing; he had every right to say no to the hat gimmick but instead it was hilarious and gave him some real break out personality.
  20. The Khans own two of the most valuable properties in the sporting worlds - a EPL team and a NFL team. The roster for Fulham club is roughly equal to the entire cost of AEW. TK's dad has been rather public he would prefer his children spend some of the inheritance now. The write off for AEW goes against the the NFL revenue stream.
  21. Given how AEW came out the last PPV, this one was really good. Mox did a heck of a job putting the focus back on the ring, and Jericho's work since Labor Day has been nothing but great. MJF is over, and the storyline was well done. The BCC fallout could be great, with some natural storylines. I keep saying MJF is a new version of Piper. So many places to go with MJF, with the obvious Wardlow feud on the horizon. MJF and the Acclaimed as your main title holders is pretty great. And take the interim off the women's title. Interesting to see if AEW sees PPV as a way to blow off feuds, or start them. It feels like a mix bag most times. This one felt like a way to start new directions for the single titles in AEW, except for the TBS title. I like Jade, and her look is second to none. But her in ring work remains stuck to me. Not clumsy but not graceful.
  22. Given how AEW came out the last PPV, this one was really good. Mox did a heck of a job putting the focus back on the ring, and Jericho's work since Labor Day has been nothing but great. MJF is over, and the storyline was well done. The BCC fallout could be great, with some natural storylines. I keep saying MJF is a new version of Piper, which is incredible conflict.
  23. Maybe I am too cynical; or maybe I have watched too much wrestling but the whole Firm thing feels like a real re-tread of so many angles I have seen. I would love to be wrong, but the Firm working with MJF and a heel turn by Regal feel really inevitable. As does a Danielson heel turn soon.
  24. FTR needs the belts - but not sure if you can move off the Acclaimed so fast. The merch numbers may be huge. Last time a new wrestling "thing" started getting mainstream cross over? and its pure AEW too. And I love FTR. Most of all, you can tell that Billy Gunn is having stupid fun
  25. Reflecting on last night - I wonder with the Ball game planned that night (Game 5 was a given from last Friday) if this show was booked as a transitional show to move some story lines along. It felt like such a B show but hey we have had 3 back-to-back Dynamites with great shows.
