  1. Might move onto it after Joe Ambercrombie 'First Law Trilogy'. Thanks for the advice.
  2. Actually, it is all going to charity. And you'd seriously begrudge paying $1 to get all those games due to it being EA? Shame.
  3. Have access to both the Wheel of Time and Malazan Empire series of books.... which one is better? Or, try and sell me on your preferred one.
  4. I'm guessing Scott Pilgrim vs The World's film is a pretty close re-telling of the comic story? I like the film, but assume there won't be much difference.
  5. Cool. I've got the anime, but haven't got around to watching it yet. Will need to catch up with that also.
  6. Is Akira the one that is linked to (or is?) the film?
  7. Yeah, my initial desire had been to delve deeper into Marvel and DC'esque selections. As for the library idea, its excellent in theory, but my library has no or very few graphic novels.
  8. A mixture really. Have also been looking at The Walking Dead graphic novels as well. Maybe Battle Royale if that is worth a look.
  9. DC had the 52 thingy (showing my knowledge here....). What did Marvel do for the reboot?
  10. Right here. Arguably the greatest comic writer ever (and comic fans will argue with such passion over such infinitesimal minutiae that they make obsessive heavy-metal fans look like dilettantes) writing a wide array of different well-known and not-so-well-known DC characters, including some of the medium's most beloved classics. The collection skips and dips among various different titles in various different tones, making it a nice primer for anyone who's not terribly familiar with this stuff; and some of them include events whose repercussions are STILL being felt in various ways. EDIT: There's a new reprint of this book that DC recently put out, but the print quality is shitty and DC actually took Batman: The Killing Joke out of the collection, for reasons that will remain forever unfathomable to us all. Excellent, will have a look at that when I get the chance. I like this as an idea. To be fair, most of my interests stem from those who have had bigger interest in popular media (like Batman), so would probably make most sense to start. I did pick up Civil War ages ago, but have never got around to reading it. Probably should be my first stop, especially whilst I'm on holiday (teacher, so another four weeks to go >_>)
  11. Posting on my phone, so will be short and sweet for the time being. I've always fancied getting into comics, but the comic universe always seems pretty daunting, with the history, reboots and different universes. As a complete novice, where is the 'best place' to start?
  12. I love this book. Did try and re-read it not too long ago, but decided that reading it on the tram at 6 o'clock in the morning on the way to work just wasn't allowing me to really get into it. Might give it another go soon.
  13. Freddy Got Fingered was awful, and even more uncomfortable as I watched it with my stepdad, amongst others. The Village - I took a date to that film, and stood up at the end of it and apologised for taking her.
  14. I didn't read the most recent one, but I do find that recently they've felt a bit.....blah. Stuff like Tripwire and Killing Floor were really good, and really got me interested in the series.
  15. Yeah, the other options I potentially had would have been THE SEARCH FOR KILLY MCKILLERSON, so it was at least a slight step up from that.
  16. When you mentioned that you would be negative about a book, for some reason I instantly thought it would be mine. To be fair, a lot of the negatives are valid. I just found it quite amusing, and having not gone in with too many expectations, was surprised to read a book I found legitimately humorous. My main problem I had in general was thinking of a book to suggest for the exchange. The book got the nod as much due to proximity as much as quality. Still, an easy holiday read for sure, and I'm glad you perservered to the end with it.
  17. I have read pretty much all of them. Enjoyable, although I do feel the quality is dropping. Easy reading for times when I need something light.
  18. Returned under a new name (rvdwannabe here). I read Love is a Mixtape myself, after all of the glowing reviews on here. I enjoyed it, but perhaps not as much as others. It was legitimately upsetting, but even though I was a fan of music, I seemed to miss a lot of the jokes/references. Worth a read though.
