KU played their first exhibition last night. There was some good stuff: Cliff Alexander plays incredibly hard and is crazy athletic. The frontcourt in general is going to be really good with an Ellis/Traylor/Alexander rotation. Frank Mason's outside shot looks much better than last year and he's still getting to the basket. Kelly Oubre is crazy long and athletic and is going to be really disruptive on defense. The bad is that they shot 50% on free throws, including 0-5 from Oubre. Their defense was pretty bad with guys out of position and bad communication. And Svi does not look ready to be there at all. So there's a long way to go and they have to play Kentucky in a couple of weeks. That could be very, very ugly.

Awww, fuck, Tom Magliozzi, who was half of the Tappett brothers on Car Talk, has died. I used to listen to them every Saturday morning running errands with my dad. They were pretty much peak Dad Humor.

Now that it's cold both cats always want to sleep with us. And they can't just sleep at the end of the bed like normal cats, they want to be right up by me under the covers. So between them and my girlfriend I get about 6 inches of bed on which to sleep.

Yeah, I found that once I got the second party member and the first sub-turn I could usually take groups that were higher level than I. The AI is not great and would usually ignore the main character to go after the archer, so I just ran her around him while I wailed on the enemies until they dropped. The game definitely has weird difficulty spikes and plateaus, at least early on.

I could not even begin to guess who the Celtics' 2nd best player after Rondo is. Green? Bradley? Man, that roster is kind of a shitshow. Klay Thompson's getting a 4-year max extension. Not sure I'd pay him that, but for 2 guards it's a sellers' market.

Conner Frankamp announced that he is transferring from KU at the end of the semester. Sounds like he wasn't happy with the playing time he'd be getting this season. On the one hand, I hate KU losing him, but on the other I think there's a decent chance he ends up a Shocker.

In high school some friends threw a party at a shitty motel. We were all outside smoking and shooting the shit with the guys from the next room doing the same. We invited them in for a beer, and they declined. Turns out they were on the run from the cops after committing 3 murders.

To be fair, they're also missing Jackson, Morrow, and Lamb. Getting them back should help their depth. They could stand to sign another big, though. Perry Jones is definitely not ready to start, though. He was getting blown away on defense.

The Bucks' offense totally went to hell in the 4th quarter. And I can't believe they gave up a wide-open 3 to Kemba fucking Walker.

Watching Bucks/Hornets. When did Jason Maxiell get fat? He's getting a little Fortsonian. Bucks look better than I expected. They're moving the ball and shooting well. Defense is looking better, too, particularly in the paint.

Have to agree. I've got a character in there somewhere, can't think of where, can't be bothered to pick it up as opposed to Skyrim. I'm sure I'll work through it someday... Yeah, I got about 2/3 of the way through the game (right before you go to the other continent) and just stopped. It felt like the game had showed me everything it had to offer. But everything up to that point was entertaining.

There is a 100% chance this story is about Quin Snyder.

Kingdom of Amalur is pretty fun, and fairly light, but also feels very generic. Dragon's Crown is a great brawler with some beautiful (and problematic) hand-drawn art. But Red Dead is wholly fantastic, play that.

I think that's just a D4 thing, not a console thing. I'm pretty cool with the change, myself, I think the identify and town portal scrolls didn't really add anything to the gameplay besides making you run errands. Well, I didn't like Mario 64 - AT ALL. Can't really put it in words, to be honest. not enough pinball Too many pixels.

GOOD. Maybe now Grantland will shut up about it. . . I can't imagine this will the the NBA's last try at some kind of reform, so I doubt we've heard the end of it. I imagine we'll see a similar formula, with some tweaks to the numbers, up for another vote in a year or two. Speaking of Grantland (segue!), their show on ESPN debuts tomorrow. I'm interested to watch it; I tend to really enjoy Simmons and Lowe talking about basketball.
